VALENCIA’S POV

"Are you feeling okay, Mitsuki?" Maverick asked for the seventh time as he walked ten steps away from me to talk to an Alpha.

He has been sticking by my side for the last hour, and I couldn’t help but be grateful for the kind of man the moon goddess bestowed me with.

Now, I genuinely believe in the saying that everything that you deserve and belong to you will come to you at the right time, sooner or later.

Maverick was my real mate, and I got him as soon as I freed myself from Tyler’s bond and Hazel Moon Pack.

Now that I look back in time, I can’t help but thank Tyler deep down for betraying and rejecting me.

If he hadn’t done so, I wouldn’t have felt the urge to leave the pack and turn into a rogue.

"I have Lovely and Charlotte by my side, Maverick. You can focus on your talk," I said. Hearing the dejected hum from his side, I knew talking to that alpha was the last thing he wanted to do.

"Luna Valencia," I heard from my left side. I turned to look at Dilbar, who looked at me nervously, shifting her weight from one foot to another.

"Yes, how can I help you?" I asked, amused.

Wasn’t she the same person who used to look down upon me and jump at every opportunity to put me down? Where did that confidence go all of a sudden?

’Can she really look down upon me? I would snap her head if she dared to,’ Aurora suddenly chimed in. I rolled my eyes at my wolf, whose presence was stronger than ever in my mind now. All the gaze that had covered her appearance earlier cleared, showing me just how beautiful our wolf form was.

"It’s just I want to thank you for everything," Dilbar said.

I nodded at her in understanding.

"It’s my pleasure. You can free yourself from the guilt that you are feeling. I don’t hold you accountable for anything," I said to ease her nervousness, and the girl smiled bitterly.

"I know you don’t. You are such a good soul. I can’t believe I was so dumb in the past. If there were anything I could do to take back everything I did with you, I would do it in an instant. Especially the way I tried to kill–" Dilbar paused when Axile walked our way.

"kill? Kill who?" Axile asked, and Dilbar looked at me as she bowed her head in shame.

I could see tears glistening in her eyes, and I sighed.

"She is talking about the last time I was at the palace during the royal ball. She had challenged me to an archery competition to kill some time because all the alphas were busy meeting," I said.

"Oh," Axile said while Dilbar raised her head, looking at me with gratitude.

Seriously, the girl was overthinking things.

I know she was scared because she didn’t want to get into her brother’s bad books. Knowing how much he respected me, she was scared that I would tell him everything, but honestly, I had no intention of doing so.

What will I gain by doing that?

I was about to tell Dilbar she had nothing to worry about when Maverick approached me, held my hand, and pulled me out of my seat.

"Will you give me the honor of having your first dance?" Maverick asked me, and I chuckled at his tactics.

"If you haven’t noticed, you are already taking me there," I smiled, and he grinned.

"I have been waiting to do this since the beginning of the evening," He confessed, taking me to the center of the hall as soon as I said yes.

He turned me before picking me in his arms, and I nearly squealed when he lifted me in the air.

Heat crept up my neck as I looked at everyone smiling at me.

I understand this man was happy, but what was he doing lifting me like a trophy?

"Ah, I am so happy. Why are you so beautiful?" Maverick put me down before placing his forehead on mine.

I knew he was saying those words to make it look like he was happy about finding my wolf, and while this was one reason for his happiness, the main reason was something else. His smiling face brought me joy, and I couldn’t help but hum, playing along with his contagious happiness.

As we were busy dancing and I was smiling at all the people dancing around us, I suddenly felt a shiver run down my spine, involuntarily turning my gaze to my left side.

Was that side of the hall that dark, or was it just my illusion? I shook my head before concentrating on Maverick. However, something inside me told me to look there again, and when I checked this time, everything was fine.

The area was perfectly lit, and a few guards guarded the place.

It was just my illusion, as I had guessed.

As I was about to relax, my gaze fell on a man standing with his back to us, and I froze when he turned to us.

"Enjoying the evening without me?" The man with Tyler’s face mouthed, and I didn’t need someone to tell me who it was.

Stumbling back in my steps, I almost fell on the ground if not for Maverick’s hands, which supported me.

"Valencia, are you okay? What’s wrong? Why is your complexion so pale?" maverick asked before he followed my gaze.

"What are you looking at, baby? There is no one," Maverick cupped my cheeks, forcing me to look into his eyes, and tears brimmed my eyes at the thought of the devil watching me so closely.

Hey, hey, it’s okay. Do you not feel alright? Do you want to return home?" Maverick asked me, and I turned to look in the same direction as where I had seen the devil standing earlier.

But just like that dark space, there was no one there. The entire place was covered with alphas and their Luna.

’Valencia, you don’t need to be afraid of anyone or anything. Now I am with you too. You trust me, right?’ Aurora asked me, and I gulped before nodding.

"My foot just slipped," I lied to ease everyone’s worry.

I could lie to everyone, but how could I lie to my man, who was well-versed in everything I felt?

I shook my head at him to tell him I would tell him everything later, and he sighed before humming.

He pulled me to the side before asking Shadow to bring a plate full of my favorite dishes.

"Will you be happy after eating this, or do you need a special dish? Like my blood?" maverick asked, making me smile.

I knew he was trying to ease my mood, so I placed my head on his chest to calm myself.

He pulled my seat closer, caressing my hair as he hid my face further into his coat.

"Axile, I know you would’ve loved for us to stay longer, but you can see Valencia is not feeling right, especially after the tiring ordeal earlier. She would only be able to rest properly back at home," I heard Maverick say, and I had no intention of interrupting him this time.

I felt I would be better at home.

’I understand Alpha Maverick. It was already enough for me that you guys stayed even after everything and being wounded like that. Please take care of her and let me know if I could help with anything," Axile said.

I felt my body being lifted shortly and knew Maverick was taking me out.

Rubbing my face further into his chest, I got even more comfortable before letting sleep take over me.
