"It’s empty," The words left Maverick’s mouth, but it was too late for them.

They had gone too far into the forest and knew the rogues from all sides surrounded them.

He could feel someone keeping a look at them, but it was hard to decipher their exact location.

Maverick’s wolf was a beast alpha; his sensitivity was far better than that of normal wolves. Thus, it was clear that the rogues his wolf was sensing around them were within a two-mile radius.

It has been two days since they went to the hotel with Parker and heard the conversation between Glacier and Prince Ethan.

They were sure the troops were setting into different places all around the royal palace.

They discovered three of the five troops in the previous two days and destroyed one today. In the last two days, Maverick and his team nearly took 600 rogues out of the scene.

One of the troops they destroyed was one of the major troops with 350 rogues alone.

Since all the rogues in the troop were renowned convicts, they didn’t feel any remorse when they set the entire place on fire, the screams of those rogues echoing through the forests.

It was a horrific sight and thing to hear.

It was the main reason why he didn’t bring Valencia along. She was already suffering from nightmares of Eidolon. The last thing he wanted to happen was for her to hear such drastic things that would leave her traumatized even more.

They were on their way to destroy the fourth troop. It was risky to destroy two troops in a single day, but this troop was rumored to be near the southern regions of the royal city.

For this purpose, the Maverick and his team set up everything at midnight.

Maverick knew the destruction of those two troops must’ve reached Glacier and Ethan already, not to mention they destroyed one today, too. The chances of them being extra cautious were higher, but who would’ve thought the place would be thoroughly clean?

"Was the information wrong, sir?" Shadow asked, looking at the area with his lips pressed into a thin line.

Maverick shook his head.

The information wasn’t wrong.

Instead, those criminals had enough time to clean off everything after they heard about the previous troops.

The almost clean area with no trees was a clear indication that something used to stay here until this morning.

"It’s futile. They have already changed the places. The fifth troop won’t be at the western borders either. There is no way they only changed one and not the second one," Maverick said before ruffling his hair.

"Shall we retreat?" Greta asked.

Maverick sighed.

He didn’t know how to break it to his group, but it had to be done. It wasn’t just the three, but around 100 others who were going around and risking their lives.

"The rogues are here, Greta," Maverick sighed.

"Here? Where?" Greta asked, but soon realization dawned upon him.

The rogues were here, but rather than being in one place like the three other trips they found, they were spread all across the forests and probably planning an attack on them.

Maverick turned around to look at his group of subordinates, who believed in him without a second thought and had come here to support him.

His duty was to form a quick plan to counter the rogues attacking them anytime.

Maverick sighed and turned on the mind-link for his seventy members, telling them what was happening and how they would need to put their lives in line.

The remaining members were informed by the group members standing beside them.

Maverick took a deep breath and pulled out his phone, where he had saved the image of Valencia smiling at a flower as his wallpaper.

He didn’t want to take matters into his own hands like this.

Though a beast alpha, he wasn’t selfless enough to risk his and his people’s lives for others like this.

It wasn’t for the royalty that he was doing this.

Maverick’s mind returned to when he entered the hotel room beside Parker’s, where Glacier’s right-hand man had come to meet him and tell him everything about his missed plan.

"What happened to your hand?" Zeus had asked Parker.

"It’s nothing. I got into a fight with one of the pack wolves who were looking down on rogues. I taught him a good lesson. This is just the price I had to pay for standing up for our people," Parker said, hiding his nervousness as he knew Alpha Maverick was listening to their conversation.

The man before him patted his shoulder before telling him he did a good job handling it.

"It’s okay. The time when these pack wolves would be at the mercy of the rogues would be here soon. The plan our leader has made this time to take the royalty and all those alphas together will definitely work," Zeus remarked smugly.

Parker coughed.

He wanted to tell the man to stop talking but feared that Alpha Maverick would barge into the room and take both of them.

The thought of receiving one of the most painful deaths by being eaten by a siren made him shiver in his place, and thus, he kept his mouth shut.

"What plan?" He asked.

"Well, Matilda from the Hazel Moon pack and Prince Ethan sought our help. With their help and influence, we were able to gather more rogues. There are five troops in total that would be attacking the royal palace with all those important people in it. Our main target is mutilating and killing that bitch Valencia," The man said.

It had taken every ounce of patience in Maverick not to barge into the room and top that mouth that called his woman a bitch.

Shadow and Greta had held their alpha’s hands to stop him from dashing forward.

However, Maverick shook his head at them. As impulsive as he was, he knew this was far more important. Besides, he had plans to make them pay sooner or later.

"V-valencia?" Parker stammered.

"Yes. Prince Ethan and Matilda are not only our leaders but also in this. They all want that bitch dead. And they don’t just want an easy death for her. They will provide her with one of the most horrifying deaths in the world. Imagine her getting raped before all the alphas by a rogue head before being dragged by her hair and butchered," The man said.

Maverick’s gaze darkened at the lewd thoughts they were harboring against his woman.

"Well, don’t let others know about this. Even walls have ears. What if some other pack member hears it?" Parker asked, trying to hint to the man that someone was listening to them.

Maverick narrowed his eyes at his attempt.

New strategies for gathering the alphas and having their teams support them so they could take those five troops before the royalty gathering and crowning ceremony were already forming in his head. However, all of it stopped once he heard what the man said next.

"Heh, you don’t know. But many alphas are in this with us. They are turning their members into rogues so they can join our troops without being blamed for their involvement. They have been jealous of Maverick for a long time. This way, they are supporting us," The man said.

Shadow looked at his alpha, knowing all too well how disappointing this news was.

They were trying their best to bring everyone together and fight against the rogues, but they were playing a nasty trick with them.

"Our main focus is going to be Valencia throughout because it would be enough to break Maverick. Once those two are out, the remaining people will have their wills broken, and things will be under our control. For that, we are already targeting her and keeping her under scrutiny," the man said before he told Parker everything about where those five troops were since he was Glacier’s left-hand man.

Maverick took a deep breath, and at the same time, an arrow was shot at him.
