Chapter 339: Devil’s plan

THIRD PERSON’S POV

She twisted in her sleep. The same dream haunted her since she turned eighteen and walked out of that pack.

Valencia gasped to breathe as she found herself cooped up in the same blood-stained walls that seemed to have no end. Once again stuck in the same labyrinth after a long time, she couldn’t help but try to find her way out.

It was the same cycle, but no matter whether she knew the outcome, she had to keep running from that blood-hounding, slithering Eidolon if she wanted to make it out alive.

It was barely a dream. She was well aware of that. But after meeting that devil who could affect her so profoundly, even in her conscious state with just her soul gone, she knew her life was in real danger, even in the dream. Dying in the dream was akin to dying in real life.

"Are you running away again? Are you sure you will find a way this time?" A voice hissed in her ears, and she shuddered in her place.

Valencia increased her pace, moving around corners, trying her best to avoid the paths she had taken in the past.

"Quit running. You know you can’t run away from this, from us," The slithering whisper came again.

Valencia was about to open her mouth to retaliate when she remembered the angels had told her not to engage with the devil or his subordinates in any manner.

Feeling frustrated with her circumstances, she tried her best to focus on finding a way to escape this place.

It was pretty strange. They keep making it look like this place has an escape if she finds it, but she has been here so many times yet was still unable to see an opening. Almost every path led her to a vast abyss or that pool of sticky, sickly blood that made her want to vomit her guts.

She prayed someone would wake her up to bring her out of this traumatic place because this was the only solution she could think of.

Running and running, she was about to enter another corridor when she finally saw a little light seeping from the open space under a door.

It was so minuscule that one would miss it for darkness.

A ray of hope ignited in her head, and she opened the door, only to face a man sitting with his back to her.

"You want to escape this place, so I have been told," The man said.

Valencia gulped. Her senses were numb. It was hard to decipher whether this man harbored evil intentions.

The last time she was about to trust someone, she almost gave her permission to the minotaur, the devil, to take her away.

"I know you are afraid. It is only natural for you to be. However, you don’t need to be afraid of me, little one," the man said, and she paused.

Who was he? What was he doing here, in this labyrinth in my dream? She wanted to ask him. However, she feared this was one of the devil’s subordinates.

"Just like you, I have been trapped here. But I can help you if you help me. Two of us can escape this place easily. All you have to do is follow me. There is a door that I had found. I have been trying hard to open it, but no matter what I do, it doesn’t budge from its place. Maybe we can move it together," The man said,

His face was still invisible, hidden behind the veil of darkness.

She was about to agree to follow him when suddenly she felt a shudder run down her spine.

"Are you unable to understand what I am saying here? The two of us can do it together," The man repeated, and Valencia felt a sense of deja vu from his words.

Do it together? Rule the place together? Wasn’t that what the devil had told and asked her?

Valencia gulped and stepped back. There was no one she could trust.

As she was about to exit the place, the man before her turned and saw the blood pool, his eyes hanging with his lips curled in an ugly smirk; a scream left Valencia’s mouth.

Maverick, who was working on the documentation of the allies and had felt Valencia’s distress through the mate bond, rushed to the house only to find her sweating and screaming.

He tried entering her headspace to find out what she was dreaming about, but when he couldn’t, he forced Valencia awake by throwing water at her.

Valencia gasped for air as soon as she woke up.

"Mitsuki, I am sorry. I didn’t want to act like—" Maverick wanted to apologize for throwing the water so harshly on her, but to his surprise, rather than complaining, Valencia threw her arms around him, hugging him tightly.

’Thank you. Thank you for always coming and saving me from my demons," Valencia muttered.

Maverick wanted to know what she was dreaming about, which shook her greatly, but he didn’t want her to feel more distressed. Thus, he sighed and kept her close, lying on the bed with her in his arms as he tried to control her emotions.

At the same time, the devil, Lord Artemis Raqtasura, smirked as he smelt the lingering scent of Valencia, who had been so close to him earlier.

"Sir, the alpha interrupted, because of which the connection broke, and she woke up from her deep slumber. Should we force her to sleep so you can enjoy her presence again?" Helio asked, his head bowed, while Slither, who was the one forming the dreams, nodded in agreement.

Lord Artemis smiled.

"Na. I don’t think that would be needed. As much as I want to see her wither in pain and moan, uncomfortable because of me, I don’t want her to be distressed to the point where she would look for weapons to kill me more actively. I just want to keep reminding myself that I am still in the picture," Lord Artemis said.

Everything was going according to his plan. Her growing distress and negativity in her heart for the people who hurt her were only giving him more leeway to increase his closeness to her.

One by one, he would lead everyone around her to ignite the hatred in her heart that would burn all the goodness in her. At that time, he will get a hold of her complete heart and make love to her to produce a baby that would be his lifeline.

A smirk appeared on Lord Artemis’s face as he thought about all the plans.

"Keep focusing on increasing your army with the interspecies people for now. The interspecies war is inevitable, and I will make sure all those angels and witches who have been rocking my woman against me have a taste of their own medicine when I retaliate with my power," the devil said before he went inside the black forests of death to meditate.

Slither and Helio looked at each other, their forms nothing more than sticky liquid as they contemplated following their boss.

"Why doesn’t the boss just go and take her already? It will save us so much trouble," Slither hissed, and Helio scorned.

"Where is the on in that? Don’t you think seeing them suffer, being on their wit’s end as they beg for mercy or death, is more fun?" Helio asked before leaving to recruit, or should they say, kidnap more people from different species to fight for them.
