Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna -
Chapter 340: A little test
Chapter 340: A little test
VALENCIA’S POV
"Is this the way?" Maverick asked Tobias, and I turned to look at the man, who nodded at him.
After traveling for 10 hours by flight and road, we were finally in the forests, leading us to the Aravali ranges.
Apart from our apparent motive for being here, the place was beautiful and picturesque.
"Are you enjoying it?" Maverick asked, knowing the answer already. He smiled at me, and I hummed.
Though I was enjoying the view and the track, it didn’t mean I wasn’t in a rush to meet the fallen angels, not to mention the wariness in my heart because we didn’t know whether these angels would perceive our arrival as friendly.
After climbing one of the mountains, Tobias stopped at some distance, and I looked at him with quirked brows.
"I am sorry, Alpha Maverick, Luna Valencia, but I have heard from a local that the fallen angels don’t like the intrusion of their privacy until you need something from them.
They might not harm you because you are here with a purpose, but they’ll kill me," Tobias said.
I hummed.
That made perfect sense to me. They were banished from the heavens, not from the world, and their energies and powers were almost still intact.
Maverick looked at me, asking whether I was okay with walking further, and I nodded.
He held my hand, the other holding the stick as we continued our track.
Hoot! Hoot!
I heard the familiar voice and raised my brows when I saw Happy flying at such an altitude.
What the hell was he doing here? Didn’t I leave him in the hotel to rest after flying for so long since he didn’t want to come inside the car?
I was about to call him when I suddenly felt my foot slip on the steep hill. Happy immediately threw his fire shot behind me, making the rocks stand tall stopping me from the fall. Maverick held me tight, pulling me closer.
"We need to keep a watch out," Maverick said.
I hummed.
It was strange. The path, though slanted, was typical. What made my foot slip like that? I looked to the left, where the cliff was, and gulped.
It was one of the tricks of the fallen angels to stop intruders.
"Thank you," I said to Maverick, who smiled again.
"I will never let go of this hand," Maverick said, and my heart skipped a beat at the display of pure love in his eyes.
After humming, we continued our track, and it was only a short time before we started to near what looked like a temple from below the hill but was actually a palace up close.
Maverick knocked on the large gates.
"Will they hear it from here?" I asked.
Maverick chuckled.
"They will have to. What else do you suppose I should do? Knock this door down? I can do that for you," Maverick wriggled his brows to ease my mind, and I blushed at his suggestion.
We waited for some time, and Aurora was running thin on patience. I sighed and was about to calm her down when we heard shuffling on the other side.
The large doors suddenly opened, and we came face to face with a bundle of feathers.
It was peculiar, comical, and degrading.
"What brings you here, Alpha Maverick, Valencia," The fur ball said, and I quirked my brows.
A few more fur balls arrived, and I felt a little irritated. It looked like they were mocking us or something.
But I didn’t want to jump to conclusions so quickly, as I practically knew nothing about fallen angels and was meeting them for the first time.
"We are here to meet the fallen angels who know about the weapon that would be used to kill the devil," Maverick said straightforwardly.
The fur balls floating in the sky suddenly settled on the ground; to my surprise, they turned into living beings.
The five females stood straight, looking to and fro between Maverick and me.
"Follow us," They said.
Maverick held my hand again, and I saw how Happy entered the palace—no one stopped him either.
We stopped at another door as the five females made way for us.
"They are here," One said, and the door opened.
Maverick led me inside, keeping me slightly behind him like a protective shield he was for me.
"Isn’t this the Beast and his cursed Luna?" Someone commented, and I turned to look at the source of my voice.
A woman sat on a chair around a round table.
"You must be one of the fallen angels," I said.
"Certainly," The woman said.
She was wearing a veil, and it was hard to decipher her expression and vibes from this distance.
Aurora felt a little uncomfortable, so I licked my lips.
"We are here to—" I started, but she raised her hand, stopping me from saying anything.
"Come and sit first. We can talk after that," she said.
I walked to the table with Maverick and was about to sit when Maverick held my hand tighter, stopping me.
He sat first before standing and leading me into the seat.
He checked if this was any trick of the angels, and I smiled at his thoughtfulness.
The woman scoffed.
"Place your hand here. There are many people with cursed destinies in this world. I want to know if you are the same cursed child who is designed to kill the devil," The fallen angel said.
A globe like a crystal ball appeared at the center of the table, and I took a deep breath.
I was about to place my hand on the crystal ball when the ball suddenly caught fire.
I raised my brows, hesitating a little.
"It shouldn’t burn you," The fallen angel said.
She assured me it wouldn’t burn my hand, but I still felt wary. After all, I was meeting these fallen angels for the first time. Could I really trust them like this?
Maverick placed his hand under mine before leading my hand to the crystal ball.
I watched in horror as Maverick’s expression contorted briefly as the fire engulfed his hand before relaxing.
He gently removed his hand from under mine.
However, as soon as my hand touched the crystal ball, it cracked before the glass shattered, and Maverick pulled my hand quickly to save me from any wounds.
I looked at the fallen angel, who didn’t have a shocked expression like I had. It was almost as if she had predicted something like this would happen.
"Well, the child with one of the most cursed destinies is finally here. A kid who lost her parents at birth and suffered at her adoptive home, a wolf that can’t transform before wishing for death, a body that is designed as a lethal weapon for the devil, and a love that has been tested by the heavens themselves," The fallen angel said.
It strangely sounded like my story with some twisted words, and I sat there, waiting for her further instructions.
"I am sorry for my behavior earlier. You are not the first one who has arrived here to ask for the weapon that can kill the devil," she said.
Her words confused me. What did she mean by that? Could it be that there were other people who could do the work, and they were deliberately forcing it on me?
As if she knew what was going on inside my head, she shook her head.
"That’s not the case. The people who arrived earlier were on the devil’s side. They have been trying to attain the weapon to appease the devil and eliminate the chance of him being killed by some percentage," She paused.
"That is why I make all of them go through this task. This crystal ball has been intact for a century and was supposed to free the magna stored inside it only after the cursed child touched it," She explained, and I hummed.
That made sense. But I was hoping there was someone else who could kill the devil.
It wasn’t that I wanted to run away from responsibility, but it was futile. I was still a hundred times weaker than the devil, who became increasingly influential.
It was like walking on a path with a dead end, which was supposed to end with my death.
"Well, if you have already confirmed that we are here for the weapon, can you call the real fallen angels? It’s quite disrespectful that they have been making their subordinate do all the work when the beast alpha and his Luna are here," Alpha Maverick said.
I raised my brows at him.
This woman’s wasn’t a fallen angel? How did he find out? I wondered.
"Certainly," the woman said and clapped her hands, making me look at my man with an impressed expression.
I was sure he was also meeting fallen angels for the first time. Thus his observation skills were quite sharp and intriguing.
