Chapter 329: Happy’s damage

THIRD PERSON’S POV

Everyone thought the rogues belonged to Ethan.

However, they were in for a shock when the rogues suddenly bowed to Axile, who stood there like the authority he always had despite not being the royal.

"Sir," Vincent looked at the mess in the palace, and Axile nodded.

"Kill every single one of them," Axile commanded.

Ethan’s smile faltered as he saw around fifty new sets of rogues rushing inside and fighting his rogue team and all the soldiers on his side.

"When Valencia said she wanted to take me somewhere, my team was afraid she would get me in trouble, and they had been following closely. As soon as the fight broke, I signaled them to enter," Axile explained.

Ethan looked around and noticed how the fight was going in his favor. He suddenly started to take another turn.

He could see he would lose now that the royal members, outnumbered before, had the support of rogues from Axile’s side.

"I always considered you my elder brother. I never thought you would betray me like this," Dilbar’s voice broke him out of his thoughts. Ethan gazed back at the girl in his hands, his dagger still pressing on her neck.

He knew he would not leave here alive if he stayed, so these people took matters into their own hands.

Losing and ruining his plans after working on them for so long was never an option.

Thus, without thinking twice, he twisted Dilbar’s hand behind her back, holding her tightly, making the girl scream in pain.

Everyone’s attention went back to where Ethan was standing.

"Since you guys already know what I had been up to, there is no use pretending anymore. You never loved me, King David. I have been your son, too. So what if I wasn’t born of your legal wife? Wasn’t I your blood? You brought me here when your wife’s condition went bad, and now that your son is back, you want to throw me, right?" Ethan scoffed, the madness in his eyes only deepening.

Seeing the rogues handling the situation, Maverick killed the last rogue that had dared to attack him and started stepping close to Dilbar to save her from Ethan.

Ethan watched Maverick like a hawk.

"If you think you can kill me this time, you are greatly mistaken, Alpha Maverick. Don’t forget that Dilbar is still in my hands, and one wrong move can kill her. Your parents promised the royal Kingdom’s and its people’s safety to the former king, no? What will it look like if this girl dies because of your mistake? You won’t want to disappoint them." Ethan smirked when Maverick stopped in his tracks.

He looked at everyone one by one.

"I will make sure I avenge what happened today, Valencia. It’s all because of you my plans got ruined. Just wait for what is coming for you," Ethan said before he stepped back with Dilbar still in his arms.

Everyone watched as he started walking towards the royal palace gate to escape what would happen to him after the fight.

King David didn’t want to let him go after learning the truth about what he had been doing, but he also wanted his daughter to be safe.

The rogues on Ethan’s side started fighting more vigilantly, and as Ethan signaled to them, one of the rogues rushed toward Valencia to kill her.

Distracted by what was happening at the entrance, everyone gasped when they saw three rogues jumping on Valencia and plunging the dagger straight into her abdomen.

At the same time, Dilbar was thrown to the side as Ethan turned into his wolf form and ran away.

Finally free from her so-called brother’s grip, Dilbar cried, which caused King David to rush to her to check up on her.

However, as soon as they saw what was happening, they froze.

"Dad," Dilbar shuddered, thinking Valencia was going to die.

She had seen the madness in Maverick’s eyes, and there was no doubt he would have harmed the royalty if something had happened to her.

"Valencia!" Maverick and Axile rushed forward, but they couldn’t step forward for some reason.

It was hard to decipher what happened. Everything was still.

Valencia was toppled on the ground with the three rogues on top of her.

Maverick struggled to step forward, but Reaper stopped him.

"Don’t. She is fine, but–" Reaper gulped, unsure how to put it.

Maverick’s heart skipped a beat. If his wolf wasn’t ready to talk about it, it only meant what he feared had happened.

He could barely control her earlier, but could he keep her in check for long when everyone and everything goes against them?

Dilbar stood with her father’s help and looked at Maverick and her real brother, who were focused on Valencia.

After what felt like an eternity but only a few seconds, the rogues above Valencia started to lose momentum and roll to the side individually.

Dilbar gasped when she saw a pool of blood forming below Valencia and the girl not making a sound at all.

However, Maverick knew this blood didn’t belong to Valencia, and remembering what happened the last time, he gulped.

Valencia groaned a little before the last rogue on top of her was rolled to the side.

Maverick gulped when he saw three hearts on Valencia’s hands.

She stood from her place and looked straight at Maverick before smiling.

"I am fine," She said before she looked at the hearts in her hand. Her expression looked okay, but her eyes....

She raised her hand before her face and was about to lick her hand, which was soaked in blood, when Maverick used his alpha speed and forced his palm into her mouth, making her bite into his skin.

He winced at the piercing bite, which was nowhere near gentle, and everyone in the palace stood there, shocked.

Valencia stepped closer to Maverick, pulling his hand closer as she drank his blood for a couple of minutes before Maverick caressed her head, making her moan and close her eyes.

’You got this, Aurora,’ Valencia spoke to her wolf, who was almost losing control and nodded in return.

’We got this, Valencia,’ Aurora said before letting go of the strings she had been pulling on to control her powers.

She fell on the ground helplessly, breathing heavily, before she smiled at Valencia and gave her a thumbs-up, making the latter smile.

Valencia stepped back from Maverick before looking into his eyes innocently as if she wasn’t someone who was thinking of sucking his blood dry.

"I..." Valencia started, but before she could complete her sentence, they heard a loud hoot.

Valencia’s eyes widened.

Hoot! Hoot!

The large bird flew into the royal palace, much to everyone’s surprise. Seeing the blood on Valencia, it didn’t even blink its eyes, which turned completely red, before taking a deep breath and exhaling fire.

The rogues around, who were on Ethan’s side and had stopped fighting because they knew it was pointless, started screaming in pain as the fire engulfed them.

That wasn’t enough. Happy flailed its wings and grabbed Valencia into a protective shield before rising above and circling her and Maverick.

His stance was clear.

Anyone who dared to go against them would be burnt alive.

Valencia looked at the bird, who was angry and avenging the distress she felt earlier. She couldn’t help but smile.

However, she also knew that this needed to stop, as they were in the royal palace. If anyone else got injured, this might be taken as an offense against royalty and law and order, and she didn’t want anyone to blame Happy for anything.

"Happy, you need to stop," Valencia said softly.

The bird paused momentarily, looking at her from the corner of his eyes, but he didn’t stop circling. Valencia knew that despite how cute he was, she needed to be strict with him if she wanted him to stop.

"Happy! Stop this instant! This is your Lord’s order!" Valencia’s voice turned deep and cold, making Happy freeze.

He looked at her for a brief second before hooting as if he was wronged.

Hoot! Hoot!

He made a sound before shrinking into a bit of an owl-sized bird and flying into her arms to appease her and act more cute.

Valencia looked at the bird, rubbing his head on her chest, and smiled.

"Sometimes, I wonder if I am tending to my future wife and her pet or two kids. Look what you guys did," Maverick massaged his forehead while joking. Valencia looked around the damage before looking at Happy, who hid his face in her chest, making her sigh.

Everyone was still shocked, finding it hard to digest. Valencia and Maverick nearly had a destructive monster-sized bird with them, and they were acting so calmly with the destruction as if it were a daily occurrence.

Valencia didn’t want to talk to the royals, knowing what they had planned and how they tried to hurt and separate them. However, she felt obliged and nodded at Axile.

"Judging from what he heard, they’ll accept you. My work here is done," Valencia said, looking at Maverick, who held her free hand. They turned to leave.

However, King David’s words stopped them before she could take another step.
