Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna -
Chapter 314: All because of the mark
Chapter 314: All because of the mark
MAVERICK’S POV
To say I was shocked would be an understatement.
As I saw my woman losing her control over her emotions and desires, it was almost as if I was meeting a person I never knew she was.
When I asked my team, Alina and Aiden, to leave, they hadn’t gone too far, and when Valencia got out of control and growled, they immediately returned.
My team and I were utterly useless against Valencia’s whims, and I thought Alina would be able to help because she was a witch, but who would’ve thought that when she would be facing Valencia in her primal, carnal, dangerous huntress form, rather than helping valencia, she would step back in horrors and fear.
According to Alina, Valencia wasn’t trying to feed off the blood of the dead bodies of the skinwalkers. Instead, the power-hungry side of her was trying to extract the powers of those dead skinwalkers and feed onto them.
That was why Alina had to step back to protect herself, or Valencia, in her power huntress form, would’ve hunted her for her powers. It was hard for me to believe because Valencia was the kind of girl who would do anything to protect her loved ones and would never harm them.
However, seeing how her body practically did not recognize me, I could see the matter of worry for Alina.
That was probably also the reason why, though those witches keep on assuring us they are with us, they don’t exactly stay with us. They are afraid of Valencia’s awakening her huntress powers.
Because that was also a part of the curse that she bore and the reason why she was the only one who could kill the devil, hunt the devil.
It was a good thing that after the last scenario, when she got angry and almost lost control, I saw Dylan making her sniff that mysterious flower that calmed her down. I had asked someone to collect those flowers and make a powder of them.
To be able to help Valencia whenever she needed it, I started wearing this ring that had the powder of that mysterious flower, and when I made her drink my blood to stop her madness about drinking the blood from those dead bodies, I deliberately chose the hand in which I was wearing the ring.
I opened its lid slightly, and she passed out as soon as Valencia inhaled the scent.
Everyone was scared and wary, and why wouldn’t they be? The girl they had always seen smiling and being jolly had taken such a drastic and scary turn, which was hard to believe.
I licked my bottom lip and looked at Alina, who was watching Valencia with a peculiar gaze.
I looked at Valencia, who was sleeping soundly, and couldn’t help but worry more.
"So, what was this? I mean, she was fine one minute and trying to talk to me, and in the next second, she lost control. What is going on?" I asked Alina.
Alina shook her head and stepped out of the room with a sigh.
"I can see you already know I am a witch appointed to help and care for Valencia. What else do you know?" Alna asked me.
I scowled, not understanding why she asked me that question.
"I know that Valencia’s wolf is one of a kind, and when she transforms, her life will be at risk," I added, hoping she was asking the question in context only to Valencia.
Alina nodded.
"And do you think your wolf is average?" she asked me.
I looked at her, confused.
What does it have to do with me? Is she trying to say I am trying to provoke her wolf, that I am the reason she is like this? I narrowed my eyes on her, and as if she understood my thoughts, she shook her head.
"Please try to understand my words calmly, Alpha Maverick. Your wolf is not a normal wolf, either. Reaper is a beast alpha, the alpha of alpha, and naturally, his power is unmatched. Valencia’s wolf, Aurora, has done her best and is still trying her best to suppress her wolf powers, but she is bound to slip, too," Alina said.
I hummed.
"She had tried to slip in many times. But Aurora handled the matters nicely earlier. However, now that Valencia bears the mark of the strongest alpha, your wolf powers are also urging her to transform," Alina said.
I froze in my place.
So it was indeed because of me that she was suffering. Guilt immediately washed over my heat.
She had asked me to mark her after all this drama had passed, but my possessiveness and desire to change her mind couldn’t wait any longer. When she hinted I could do it because she loved me and was okay with the idea of being called mine, I didn’t even think of anything else and just marked her.
"So does that mean I am harming her?" I asked.
Alina shook her head.
"That’s not what I meant, Alpha Maverick," Alina said.
She raised her hands and made a screen-like thing appear before me.
"This is a little blurred, but you will get the idea of what is happening," Alina said, and I raised my brows when I saw the deaths of different girls one by one and not in a very pleasant manner.
"What is this?" I asked her.
"These are all the girls who had gotten Aurora as their wolf part," Alina said, and dread took over my heart as I saw how horrifying their death was.
It looked like this body was melting like hot lava, and everyone went on a rampage before that happened.
"What are you trying to say? This is only scaring me," I admitted.
I had asked Alina to stop and talk with me because I wanted to know what I could do to keep Valencia happy and stop her transformation, not see all this.
Alina sighed again.
"You can’t do anything. Whatever is happening is in Valencia’s control only. Aurora will do her best to keep her safe and sound. Regarding this blood desire, I saw what you did there, and it was a good move. Your blood calms her strangely. It means you will have to stay with her all the time," Alina said before changing the screen’s view.
I could see all the times Valencia was about to lose control of her emotions, but either she passed out completely and fainted, or she zoned out for some time. Alina probably tried to explain this to me by saying Aurora would handle it.
"But you still have not answered me; what triggered her?" I asked to gain more clarity on the matter.
Alina smiled.
"Haven’t you noticed this earlier, Alpha Maverick? Valencia is a born huntress. She pretends to be a vegetarian to keep herself away from blood and flesh so she can keep her sanity. Besides, I have yet to do my research, but something tells me that this was a well-played trick of the devil," She said.
Devil? Right. Alina had mentioned that some kind of black smoke-like thing had evaporated from their body when they died because of those tree branches strangling them. And Shadow said the doctors found a hint of black liquid in their abdomen.
"Thank you for saving Valencia’s life today. It looks like I will have to keep her with me, not because of this blood issue only but to keep her away from the devil’s tricks," I said.
Alina smiled.
"It wasn’t me who saved Valencia. She saved herself. Those tree branches that came to strangle and attack the skinwalkers from behind were her subconscious reaction to the threat. That is the reason Aurora slipped, and Valencia went rampant. She should’ve turned 18 on her birthday, but more than ten months had passed. There is just so much that Aurora can do, too," Alina explained.
Though things were still confusing to me, I nodded.
The rest of the questions will only be answered and understood as time passes. My main focus should be on keeping my woman safe.
"You did well today. Honestly, no one has ever been able to calm the humans when they went rampant in the previous ten lives of Aurora. You are indeed a perfect match for her," Alina said, and I hummed.
It wasn’t precisely a compliment for me. If I were really that capable, she wouldn’t have gone into this rampant stage in the first place.
"And what about her as of now?" I asked as I looked at my cute woman, sprawled on the bed like a star without a care in the world.
Her little paws opened, her face relaxed, and her whiskers moved with her soft breathing—it was too cute.
I don’t know why, but after I placed Valencia on the bed and walked out to talk to Alina, I returned after hearing her moan and saw her turning into her cat form.
She didn’t even gain consciousness, but she turned into her cat, and it had been three hours since she had stayed like this.
"Let’s wait for her to wake up and see what is going on," Alina said, making me hum.
