Chapter 313: Sudden Craziness

Chapter 313: Sudden Craziness

VALENCIA’S POV

"When did you decide to tell me about being a witch?" I asked Alina once the skinwalkers were dealt with.

Alina looked at me with a strained smile before taking a deep breath.

"I am sorry," She whispered, an apologetic expression crossing her face.

Was she apologizing to me for hiding her identity? I wondered before humming.

"It’s okay. I understand. Everyone has their reasons. It’s just surprising that people around me have been trying to protect me for so long, and I have stayed oblivious to everything," I said.

Alina nodded.

"I am apologizing that I have to hide everything from you. But I assure you that you will find everything when the time is right," Alina said.

Her words made me feel that she was hiding something else from me, and I was about to confront her regarding that when I felt his presence near us.

I cleared my throat, knowing all too well he would reprimand me.

"Mitsuki," His cold voice reached me before his unique, mouthwatering scent wafted through my nostrils, and I licked my bottom lip, turning on my heels.

"In my defense, I really didn’t know we had other species infiltrated in our town," I reasoned before he could scold me before everyone.

Maverick’s gaze was hard to decipher. Tiredness was visible on his face, and I felt slightly guilty for making him worried like this, but this time, I had no idea we would get into this kind of trouble when coming to meet Aiden.

I licked my bottom lips, waiting for him to lash out when he shook his head.

"Deal with them," he merely told the team, and I looked at Lovely, who had an equally scared expression.

Right. I completely forgot about that girl. She would get scolded because of me.

"Miss Alina, I would like to talk to you in private. Will that be possible?" Maverick asked Alina, who looked at me briefly before nodding. Maverick nodded in return.

He walked to me and held my hand, kissing the back of it. His eyes turned soft as he looked into my eyes.

"It’s okay. You are fine. That’s all that matters," Maverick said, tucking a strand of hair behind my ears, and I furrowed my brows.

Something was wrong.

Why was he acting like this? This was so unlike his character.

Though I wouldn’t have preferred if he had scolded me, seeing him being so forgiving and neutral was also not settling well with me.

I placed my hand on him as he cupped my cheeks, looking into his eyes.

"What happened?" I asked.

"Alpha received a threatening letter a few minutes ago in which the person mentioned he would harm you to get to the alpha," Shadow answered the question I asked Maverick.

Maverick glared at Shadow, probably not wanting to tell me, and I sighed.

"Nothing is going to happen to me. Haven’t you gotten it yet? I am pretty much immortal," I chuckled, and Maverick hummed.

"Even if you are not, I would rather ask the moon goddess to give you my part of life so you can live a long life. If it comes to it, I will trade my life for yours and die to save you and —" Maverick started, but his words only made me scowl, and before I could control my hand, I hit his cheeks.

Slap!!

The slap was light, probably not even painful to him, but the pat sound echoed in the silent forest, and I could hear everyone’s gasp that followed the slap.

Maverick said nothing and kept looking at me while my eyes brimmed with tears.

I wasn’t the emotional type, I swear, but hearing him say something like this made me lose control.

"And then what? Do you think I could live happily after you are gone from my life?" I asked, looking at him with a wronged expression.

It was true that I couldn’t understand and feel what a mate’s love was supposed to be, but it didn’t mean my passion for Maverick was any less just because he wasn’t my mate.

I probably didn’t even know what true love was, but I knew that I would kill and die for him and bring the moon goddess to the earth if that was needed to keep us together.

I glared at him when he said nothing, and he sighed.

He looked around, and everyone left the area, understanding the alpha’s indication.

"Mistuki," Maverick tried to cup my cheeks again, but I pushed him away before turning around and walking toward the lake.

"You are such a fool, Maverick. Your name indeed rhymes with dick, and your brain is probably there only," I glared at him from the corner of his eyes.

I could see his lips twitching, and I couldn’t help but point my finger at him.

"Don’t you dare smile because I am in no mood to joke," I said, jabbing my finger into his chest.

"How dare you even think I would be happy without you?" I asked.

I shook my head, feeling strangely more sad with each passing second.

The dead bodies of the skinwalkers that were void of that black smoke now, and probably just the average skinwalkers, were calling to me.

My gaze went there involuntarily repetitively, and I licked my bottom lip.

The nerve in my forehead was pulsating, and I walked to the dead bodies.

"What are you doing?" Maverick asked me.

I gulped. I didn’t know what I was doing.

"I want to see if there is any remnant left of the devil in them," I said, digging my hand into the chest of one of the dead skinwalkers. The mild, warm liquid that touched my skin and the scent that wafted my nostrils made my heart pound against my chest, and I raised my hand.

I looked at the red stain on my hand and gulped.

It was tempting. It was as if my body was growing a mind of its own. I took a deep, shaky breath, ready to wipe my hands on the Skinwalker’s cloth, but a voice inside me asked me to taste what the Skinwalker’s blood tasted like.

A weird reddish haze started to appear before my eyes, and my breathing turned uneven. All the surrounding voices started to dim, and I raised my face towards the sky.

Fuck, this feeling.

"Uhhh," The strain in my hand was increasing, and before I could control my desires, I brought my hand towards my face and gave a hard lick to my blood-stained hand, my insides churning at the taste because of how good it tasted.

’Valencia,’ I could hear Aurora’s concerned voice, but this was too good to ignore.

I know I was being a hypocrite, given how I try to act like a pure vegetarian, but whenever I see blood, it’s practically hard for me to control my urges.

"Mmm," I arched my back, a smile stretching on my lips as I tasted more blood.

"Valencia! Snap out of it!" I heard Maverick’s voice in the background and knew he was somewhere near me, but it was hard to pinpoint exactly in which direction.

’Valencia, remember how you promised yourself that you would stay a vegetarian because you don’t want to give in to your desire to drink blood? Snap out of it, for heaven’s sake,’ Aurora said, but it was hard to control my mind anymore.

Someone grabbed my hand from behind, stopping me from moving my face close to the heat of the skinwalker, and it was making me angry now.

"Let go!" I growled, the sky-piercing growl echoing in the silent forest.

It was hard to believe that the growl came from me, but I was too gone to control my desires.

Pushing the person who was trying to hold me down, I placed my mouth on the chest of the skinwalker before drinking his blood straight from it.

Fucking good. That was precisely what it was making me feel. I guess I have been vegetarian for too long, and the tigress inside me wants to prey on real blood.

The reddish haze before my eyes started to darken even more, and I placed my hand on the chest of the skinwalker to tear off his flesh, but before I could make a move, someone held my hand again and pulled me back with the kind of force that was hard to ignore.

I struggled against the force to drink more blood; the craziness that I was going through was scaring me. I didn’t want to drink any more blood.

What the hell was I doing? The more I was being pulled away from the bloody sight, the more my sanity returned to me, but these never-ending desires were making it hard for me to think straight.

"I want blood," I whimpered against the hold of the person who was pulling me away from the dead bodies, and I clenched my fists.

"Fuck," The man near me groaned, his voice all too familiar before something forced into my mouth, and I groaned at the fresh supply of blood.

"Mmm," I grabbed the hand that was letting me drink the fresh blood, but before I could continue, I suddenly felt powerless, and darkness engulfed me.
