Chapter 29: Black imprints

VALENCIA’S POV

I thought I would hear a scolding and a series of colorful words for my actions, but to my surprise, what I heard next was a loud laughter from Dylan.

"Hahaha... I can’t believe my eyes. Did the almighty Carl get bashed?" Dylan said, his voice was full of amusement, and I daringly walked towards the kitchen.

As soon as I reached there, my eyes met Carl’s angry and annoyed ones, and I felt even more awkward.

"Carl, you have grown into a fine man. I totally couldn’t recognize you," I said to ease the tension between us, and he rolled his eyes before looking at his hands and I coughed to hide my embarrassment.

Of course, I need to untie him.

Glaring at Dylan, who was still rolling on the ground, enjoying the miseries of his cousin, I stepped ahead and removed the gag from Carl’s mouth before untying him.

’Hey! Will anyone tell me what’s happening? Dylan? Valencia?’

We heard the distant voice and realized that I had forgotten to end the call when I saw Dylan.

"Let me give you some ice pack," I said to Carl while Dylan finally stopped laughing and walked out to talk to his father on my behalf.

As I gave Carl an ice pack, I could hear Dylan having the time of his life while telling his uncle everything that happened.

"Valencia, Sweety, I am proud of you," Uncle said, and I smiled at them.

Weren’t they seriously bullying Carl by being so supportive of what I did?

"Are you sure about that?" I asked, and I heard a yes from the other side.

"It’s their fault for switching off all the lights even before all the preparations were made. A girl who is living alone is bound to be surprised like that. Besides, your actions just proved how alert you are of your surroundings and can easily handle a few intruders," Uncle said proudly, and I looked at Carl, who was pressing the ice pack on his head.

"And she hits really hard," Carl added, making all of us smile.

Well, I was glad that they weren’t angry at me for my mistake.

"In my defense, he was crouching down and looking through the cabinets where I hid my expensive chocolates and dry fruits that I stole," I still added just in case.

Dylan, who was sitting right beside me, ruffled my hair and nodded.

"We understand, girl. How hard it must’ve been for you," Dylan smirked at Carl, who glared at him.

After some time, we finally ended the call and Dylan faced me.

"Are you seriously here only for a day?" I asked him, feeling slightly emotional.

Life with the humans was adventurous and fun. There was no doubt about that. But being with Dylan just feels like home. Maybe because he was my crush for a really long time and has always been so supportive of me.

"The herbs are almost gone just like I had guessed," Dylan said instead as he respectfully touched the back of the scent-hiding pendant.

He nodded at Carl, who stood from his place and brought back a small treasure case-like thing.

"Meeting me was just an excuse. You just wanted to put more herbs into my pendant, no?" I scowled, and Dylan smiled at my pouting face.

He pinched my cheeks.

"Cutie, I am always eager to see you and spend more time with you but work doesn’t allow it and you are not ready to come back either because you want to study here. So what exactly can I do, hmm?" He asked.

Carl carefully opened the pendant and placed the little compressed beads of the herbs that would probably last me for another 6 months.

"Hey, you are not really angry at me, right?" I asked Carl, who has been quiet since earlier and he raised his gaze, smirking at me, the kind of boyish smirk that means nothing good.

"Well, I can’t stay angry at someone I am going to live with for a month now, can I?" Carl asked, and I furrowed my brows.

What did he mean that he would stay with me for a... My gaze shifted to the two large suitcases in the corner of the living room that I hadn’t noticed earlier.

"You are kidding me," I stood from my place, my foot entangling with the carpet, making me fall.

However, before I could kiss the corner of the table and hit my head open, someone held my hand and pulled me back into their hard chest.

I opened my eyes that I had closed instinctively and looked into the brown eyes that were looking at me with an amused smile.

"I don’t like to joke, Val, but if you are into that, I can kid with you," Carl winked at me, and my pupils dilated as I realized what kind of man I was dealing with.

This little son of a flirtatious father!

"Carl," Dylan warned him and Carl chuckled.

"Come here," Dylan held my hand and pulled me back beside him, making me topple over him if I hadn’t held onto the side of the couch.

These two were seriously a dangerous pair for my heart, I swear.

"Why are you always so jumpy?" Dylan asked before he helped me wear the pendant again, I stopped breathing when he looked into my eyes, his hands still around me.

What was with this intense gaze?

"You smell different," he whispered, as if it was something that he didn’t want me to hear.

"You can smell me?" I asked and Dylan shook his head.

"I could before I placed this pendant on you. Where were you coming from earlier?" He asked, and I knew he wanted to know everything about what happened that day when I had called him and Shadow had come for an inspection.

"Can I freshen up first?" I asked, and he hummed vaguely, making me smile.

I walked to the first floor and closed the door before breathing a sigh of relief.

I swear Dylan can be really scary sometimes when he is all serious and in his council head’s son’s attitude.

It looks like I will have to mend some of the information. There is no way I can tell him everything. I nodded at myself before taking off my T-shirt.

I was about to take off my pants too when I turned around and looked at my reflection, my eyes widening.

"Aaaa!" I screamed.

"Aaaaa!"

I couldn’t believe my eyes.

I looked at myself in disbelief and was about to quickly wear the t-shirt back when I heard hurried footsteps, before I could wear my t-shirt, the door was knocked open and Dylan looked at me with wide eyes.

"What the hell?!" Dylan widened his eyes as he looked at me.

(I was wearing a sports bra).

"Aaaa!" Carl shouted, and I winced.

"Aaaaa! Why are you screaming?!" I shouted back, and the two men looked at me with a questioning gaze.

I know what was going through their heads.

I had the same confusion in my head as I looked at myself again.

On my body, two large imprints of someone grabbing my waist were formed. And judging from the black ink, I knew whose imprints these were.

But what surprised me was... How the hell was I stained black like this?! There is no way this would come off easily.

I looked at the black ink near my neckline.

You have to be kidding me!
