VALENCIA’S POV

I was feeling hot. Hot from embarrassment I looked at the large imprints on my body. And it made me also realize how muscular and big his hands were on my body.

Wait. That wasn’t the most important part. Damn it!

I didn’t know what to think anymore.

How the heck was even this possible? This was beyond logic.

I looked at Aurora for some kind of answer to explain their weird incident and she cleared her throat.

’Well, when Shadow had picked you with his stained hands, your fur and skin in the cat form got stained with the ink, right?’ Aurora asked, and I hummed, remembering seeing myself being dirty as the reason why I ran away too.

’Think of it like the wound you got. When you hurt your paw, didn’t you have the same wound when you turned into your human form? The cut on your paws appeared on your hand, right?

"Are you going to explain what this is all about? How did this happen?" Dylan asked me, and I turned to look at him before forcing a smile on my face.

"Were you scared? Hehe, that was my plan. Well, you see, some kind of skit acting is going to happen in our half-yearly function, and we are portraying some kind of abusive role play. I am the heroine, and these hands on my body signify the way a girl’s sanity and dignity are stained when she is abused," I said, nodding at myself as the lie I spouted looked a little good.

’Bravo, Val. Aren’t you quite talented in this field? Look at you cooking up a lie so quickly and the kind that can be believed so easily. You are a pro,’ Aurora whispered.

’Thank you,’ I smiled at her.

’There is nothing to be proud of. It wasn’t a compliment,’’ She mused, and I rolled my eyes.

’You don’t say that when my lies actually saved our ass so many times. You only know how to get me in trouble. Who is the one who gets us out all the time?’ I scoffed.

"Well, in that case, shouldn’t they have used paint that could’ve come off of you easily? Why does it look like black ball pen ink instead? It’s quite tough" Carl asked as he stepped close to me, and I immediately became conscious of his proximity.

He placed his finger on the side of my waist, rubbing his finger, and I noticed how though the ink stained his finger too, it didn’t rub off much.

Carl was right. It would be a hassle getting it off my skin.

That jerk! I swear the next time I go to his place, I will create an even bigger mess. How dare he imprint me like this?

If I didn’t make you realize your mistake and get on your knees in front of me, then my name wouldn’t be Valencia. I gritted my teeth before looking at Carl, who was looking straight into my eyes, making me clear my throat.

"I know, right? I didn’t know it was ink instead. What should I do?" I feign ignorance.

"Huh, this won’t do. We need alcohol to help you remove this. Even if we clean it, it will surely leave a mark for a couple of days. Dylan told me you were a clutz, but I didn’t know you were this troublesome," Carl said.

"You had me there for a second. I hope I can trust you to contact me as soon as something happens, right?" Dylan asked and I nodded.

"Believe me or not, but I don’t have any intention of putting my life out there in danger, Dylan. I got this life after struggling for too long," I whispered, making him sigh and release me before he kissed my forehead.

There was something about the way he looked at me that irked me a little. These emotions were a bit too raw, too pure, and...

"Carl won’t be staying with you. He was just joking. You don’t need to worry about that. But it’s true he will be staying in the city for a month. It’s a business deal with the alpha and some people. Dad asked him to stay near you so that we can assist you until this investigation with Alpha Maverick is over," Dylan said before leaving my hand and stepping towards the balcony.

I sighed in relief.

With the kind of life I was living, I couldn’t afford to have someone live with me. It was too risky.

"About who gave the intel about me, did you guys find anyone?" I asked him as I pulled my hair in a bun before pausing.

He was asking me to trust him. There was definitely something that he knew but was too wary to let me know.

’Geez, Valencia, what are you thinking? Are you really suspecting him? Didn’t he ask me to trust them?’ I bashed myself.

This was the same man who reached out to me when the world had shut its door for me. He was the only man who looked for me when no one could even care if I was alive. How could I even think they wanted bad for me?

"I trust you. Why don’t you go downstairs and I will join you after taking a thorough bath?" I smiled at Dylan when he nodded and left the room.

Without wasting more time thinking about things, I walked inside my bathroom, got undressed, and stepped into the bathtub.

’You can run away from everything but me,’ I heard Shadow whisper as soon as I closed my eyes and the event of what happened in the theater replayed in my head.

He was surely a brazen man.

The kind of man who makes you breathless and even after that leaves you wanting more.

The kind of aura he possessed was the one that I had never felt anywhere before.

He was quite handsome, and he knew how to use it against others too.

But what was even worse was that it was hard to decipher him.

What did he really want from me? If he was investigating me, then he could do it without directly getting involved with me. What was his purpose in approaching me?

He suspected that I was training the cat to create a mess in his life, but the way he said, "You remind me a lot about your boss if she is your boss that is. Huh, whatever the case was, one thing was for sure, I needed to stay wary of that man. The way they were investigating, it might take a really long time.

It was a good thing the exams were near.

Once the exams were over, I wouldn’t actually have to see him in those 25 days, at least not as frequently as I have to these days.

With a washcloth, I started rubbing my body to get the ink off my body.

As I relaxed into the bath, my eyes started to feel droopy and I started to fall into a deep slumber.
