Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna
Chapter 280: Meeting his brother

Chapter 280: Meeting his brother

VALENCIA’S POV

"You didn’t answer me," I probed more.

Maverick looked at me with a troubled expression.

I know he didn’t want me to meet his brother because he thought he wasn’t worthy of it.

But I wanted to meet him.

Yes, it was a sick thought, but I, who didn’t have a biological family member left, thought that anyone was and could be saved and taken to the path of redemption.

Maybe it was because I didn’t feel and went through the kind of betrayal Maverick went through that I was so optimistic about this, but...

I wanted to give it a try.

Even though Maverick says he hates that man with his heart and everything he holds onto, he is lonely and scared deep down.

Like a little boy who is afraid to talk against his mother because deep down he believes maybe his mother isn’t wrong and whatever she did was in a moment of anger or because she was under someone’s influence.

"Do you really want to meet him?" He asked.

I know he was giving me enough time to look into his eyes, which were asking me to say no, but I nodded instead.

"Positive," I whispered.

He took a deep breath and held my hand.

"There is still around an hour till the Lycans reach here. Let’s go," He said before he pulled me out of the apartment.

I widened my eyes slightly, looking back at Shadow, who seemed as shocked as I was.

Maverick pushed me gently inside the car, and without speaking, he took me to his pack.

I know he was struggling with his inner emotions, and thus, when he didn’t say anything, probably battling with his feelings, I didn’t interfere either.

We reached his pack shortly, and he held my hand, pulling me to the dungeons.

I could see the shocked expressions on everyone’s faces. They were probably wondering if I had done anything wrong or what had gotten into their alpha’s head.

It was a brief look that soon turned to pity, and I guess Shadow did his work as the pack’s beta and explained what was going on to everyone.

This was the first time I had entered the dungeons of the Dark Callisto pack, and I noticed a visible difference between this dungeon and the dungeons I had been to.

This looked like a direct room to hell.

There weren’t many prisoners, probably because they killed the prisoners shortly or released them if proven innocent.

It reflected how well their judiciary system worked, and it brought a smile to my face.

However, the person I wanted to meet wasn’t in these cells of the dungeons.

Maverick kept pulling me forward until we reached a secluded place.

There was only one cell, more like a confined space.

There were no bars in this cell. Just plain walls that looked unbreakable.

If I hadn’t known better about the extent of Maverick’s anger, I would’ve thought this place was to confine himself when his beast form took over.

"You want to meet him," Maverick said more to himself than me, and I sighed.

I pulled away my hand from his grip and held his palm between my hands, wanting him to feel the warmth.

"Everything will be fine," I whispered, and he hummed.

He looked at the guard who had followed us, and the man turned off a button before proceeding to unlock the door.

I realized that they were probably electrocuting the doors or the surface of the prison so the man inside wouldn’t be able to run off, and it dawned upon me just how wary Maverick was of the man inside.

Maverick stepped ahead as soon as the door opened, blocking my view.

"My lady wanted to meet and see the scum who destroyed my life and betrayed me by sleeping with my mate, even going as far as killing my parents," He announced.

I sighed.

Everything was crystal clear.

Why did the man feel the need to announce this every time he saw his brother? He was most probably reminding himself of the crimes his brother committed so his heart would not soften at his sight.

The hate in his heart was stronger than I had predicted, but what was stronger was his love for his brother and the kinship running in their veins.

"Can you let me see now?" I placed my hand on his shoulders, and he hummed, stepping away dejectedly.

I licked my bottom lip before stepping ahead.

The man had his back to us.

His hunched back made him look sad and depressed, but then again, it could all be an act for all I cared.

"Alfonso," I said the name.

If it had been any other place, time, and situation, I would’ve said his name respectfully, but not when my man hated him so much.

Showing him respect for being Maverick’s elder brother right now would only fuel the fire.

"Am I allowed to see her face at least, brother?" The man said.

My heart clenched painfully for some unknown reason when I heard his voice full of sadness and disappointment.

"Of course, you can see her. She is not like that wretched woman who will jump into your arms for your looks," Maverick scoffed, more like spat the words.

I waited for the person to turn around, but it wasn’t long before he stood from his place.

The thick sound of the metal chains scraping and pulling on the ground reached my ears, making me look at the man.

I was ready to see his face, but when he turned around and saw who exactly it was, I couldn’t help but widen my eyes in shock.

"Arnold?" I asked.

The man’s pupils dilated, and he stepped ahead quickly, as if to hold my hand, but the chains stopped him in his tracks.

"Arnold? That’s not Arnold. It’s Alfonso. The man I am sadly blood-related to," Maverick said.

I shook my head.

He might be Alfonso, but I knew him as Arnold.

"How... what..." I paused.

Pity. That’s what I felt for the person before me as I remembered our last encounter.

If what he told me was right...

I bit my bottom lip.

"How are you bunny? I told you anyone would fall in love with you. You have those family-kind vibes. But who would’ve thought you would become family so soon?" He smiled, his chapped lips barely moving.

"Who is your family? She is only related to me. Only mine!" Maverick roared, and I flinched a little, his loud voice piercing my ears.

Maverick looked at me a little apologetically before holding my hand.

He was about to pull me out again when I held my ground.

"I want to talk to him," I said.

Maverick glared at me.

I know he did not like what I said, but I wouldn’t give in this time.

"Listen to me, Baby. Let’s go," Maverick whispered.

"No. You listen to me. This might be your brother, but he is also someone who saved my life," I said.

Maverick froze in his place.

I know my words shocked him, and he looked at his brother more than at me.

"This man saved your life? This man only knows how to take lives," Maverick said.

I shook my head at him.

I remember him clearly.

Even with all these marks on his face and body now, the way his clothes were roughened up, and his appearance completely contrasted with what I saw, I still recognized him.

It wasn’t just a minuscule meeting that I would forget.

We had spent quite a few hours together trying to escape the rogues before parting ways.

"He isn’t," I said, looking dead in Maverick’s eyes.

All the words Arnold has said to me, I mean, Alfonso had said to me when he was sharing his story, made sense to me now.

At that time, I only heard his story like any random sad life story because I had seen and met a lot of rogues along my way.

However, now, the protagonist of that story was my man. How could I take it lightly?

I looked at Maverick, who didn’t look like he was going to let me stay and talk to his brother, not when I was acting rebellious like this.

It wasn’t something I could get my way around by acting stubborn and wishful.

"Can you please allow me to talk to your brother? Trust me, I would never do anything to hurt you," I held Maverick’s hand.

He shook his head directly.

"It’s not you I worry about. It’s him. You don’t know him. He will bad mouth you or say something, I don’t know. He is just not someone you should stay alone with," Maverick said with finality, and I licked my bottom lip in understanding.

"I understand your concern, but can you trust me?" I asked, and he looked at me for a few seconds before taking a deep breath and nodding.

"Ten minutes. That’s all I am giving you," He said before leaving me alone with Alfonso, making me take a deep breath.
