Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna
Chapter 279: Overwhelming care

Chapter 279: Overwhelming care

MAVERICK’S POV

As soon as Shadow informed me of what was going on, I ran towards the apartment where Valencia was staying with me.

I couldn’t believe I left her for half an hour and this happened.

I should’ve been precautious.

As soon as I reached the building, I quickly got into the accelerator.

I could hear the sounds outside the apartment, and my gaze fell on Shadow, who stood out of the apartment with a helpless look.

I punched the password and walked inside the apartment, looking around with a sigh.

Almost the entire living hall was full of different kinds of gifts, and the food on the table was more than enough to feed four people.

My gaze fell on Valencia, whose mouth was stuffed with God knows what, as she looked at me helplessly with tears brimming in her eyes.

She wasn’t sad. I could see it in her eyes.

She was overwhelmed by the overcare they offered, and I scratched my forehead.

"What are you guys doing here?" I asked the old ladies from my pack, who came here to visit Valencia.

It has been three days since I announced Valencia as my love and their future Luna, and they have been sneaking up on her at every given opportunity to feed her.

They thought Valencia was too skinny and needed to gain weight to become healthier.

I knew what was going on inside their heads.

They thought they were preparing her for the baby-making ceremony, but how was I supposed to explain to them that it wouldn’t happen until the trouble with the rogues was over?

Valencia ate the food in her mouth before smiling awkwardly.

She did not want to hurt the ladies and their goodwill. I could see that, and thus, I needed to handle this carefully too.

I would’ve ordered them not to annoy her long ago, but I didn’t want them to think Valencia was making them uncomfortable when that wasn’t even the case.

I know Valencia was feeling overwhelmed, but at the same time, she was happy that she was getting the love from the people when she yearned for it in her previous pack.

"Alpha, you are always busy with your chores and meetings. She is not your mate. What if she runs away because you do not care for her well? You already brought her here. At least let us take care of her," one of her ladies said.

I rolled my eyes.

"I get it. I understand your ’care,’ but I hope you are not overdoing it. She isn’t used to living with so many people, and you are definitely working her up by feeding her so much. Do you want her to hate you?" I asked.

The ladies looked at Valencia with pitiful eyes, and Valencia widened her eyes, caught. She shook her head quickly.

"It’s okay. I don’t mind," Valencia said quickly, and I sighed, wanting to face-palm myself.

This was obviously a trick of these old ladies, and the stupid girl fell right into it.

I licked my bottom lip when one of the ladies looked at me with a knowing smile.

"Sir, the Lycans have arrived in the city," Shadow walked to me, and I nodded in understanding.

"Luna, you have no idea how happy I am that our alpha chose you. I will protect you with my life and will take care of you. Please let me stay," I heard an unfamiliar voice and turned to look at the girl in her twenties who held Valencia’s hand.

I furrowed my brows.

Who was she? Why don’t I have any recollection of her?

I looked at Shadow for an explanation.

"Sir, she is Blakey’s sister, Linda. She has returned from abroad. I mentioned her to you a couple of days ago. She was sent to our Argentina branch when she was only four. That’s why you don’t remember her," Shadow said.

I nodded in understanding.

Well, I don’t care if she was part of the pack before, but for now, I didn’t know much about her, and I didn’t want to place any such woman around my woman.

"That won’t be needed. You guys need to leave. We have a meeting with the Lycans, and I am sure none of you would fancy meeting them. Will you?" I asked.

The ladies looked troubled before they stood dejectedly.

"Baby," I looked at Valencia to indicate that she should get changed if she wanted to, and she nodded.

She was about to stand when Linda held her hand and got on her knees.

"Please, Luna. I don’t know anyone here and am as oblivious as you. My sister died long ago. My sister and I always wished to care for our Luna just like our mother cared for Alpha’s mother. She was their personal maid. I will slave away my life. Please," Linda said.

Her eyes brimmed with tears, and I pressed my lips into a thin line.

She wasn’t lying.

I know Mrs. Kiara had two daughters and was my mom’s caretaker. My mom used to treat her like her best friend in the pack, always taking her everywhere.

I could understand her feelings, but...

I was about to interrupt again when Valencia tilted her head and placed her hand on her cheeks.

She wiped her tears from her thumb, looking so cool and magnificent.

I paused.

Even when she wasn’t officially positioned, all her actions and the way she looked at people were indeed like she was a Luna already.

’Well, she is the daughter of the coolest and strongest Luna,’ Reaper reminded me, and I hummed, licking my bottom lip.

"We will book an apartment for you in this building. You can’t live with us but can take care of me," Valencia said.

I smiled, liking how she kept our private life still away from any intruders and kept the girl’s heart at the same time.

Linda nodded and kissed the back of Valencia’s hand multiple times, making me scowl.

"I think that’s enough," I said, and everyone chuckled at me.

Why was everyone laughing? I scrunch my forehead while Valencia walks past me, straight into her room to get ready, probably.

I looked at all the ladies, who sighed dejectedly and started to walk towards the exit.

"All this stuff too. I don’t need a swarmed-up place. You guys can use this to decorate our future room. Don’t you think I would be needing a bigger one?" I asked, and the ladies smiled, their eyes beaming, making me smile.

It was really so easy to appease them.

As soon as everyone left, I looked at Shadow, who looked like he wanted to say something.

"What is it?" I asked.

He hesitated, and I knew I wouldn’t like his words.

"Well, sir. Please don’t get angry," Shadow paused.

I didn’t react and he took a deep breath.

"Well, sir, we all know how much you hated your brother, and since he was the one who betrayed you too. The guards were talking about the death of that woman before him, hoping to tease him or get a reaction out of him," Shadow said.

I hummed.

It was indeed infuriating a little because I clearly mentioned to everyone not to interact with him or share details of what was going on in the pack or my life before him because he didn’t deserve it.

I wanted him to stay and die in isolation just like how he left me after killing my parents. Yes. They were my parents alone because if he had considered them his parents, he wouldn’t have killed them.

"And what reaction did he give?" I asked, merely intrigued, trying to find a distraction to control my irritation with the matter.

"He laughed," Shadow said.

I quirked my brows at his words.

Laughed? Has he finally started to go mad that he laughed at the death of someone he was sleeping with?

Or perhaps they have some kind of fall-off?

"Yes, sir. He even said a few things," Shadow said, his gaze moving to the closed door, and I understood his signal.

"It’s okay," I said to him. I didn’t want to hide anything from her either way.

"Well, sir. He cursed that woman a lot. He said that bitch deserved it. She should’ve died long ago. He should’ve killed her when he saw her stained hands. But instead, she got him to take the blame. She ruined his life, his entire family’s life, and that bitch deserved a worse death than that. That you should’ve covered her in honey and left her on a boat so the maggots would’ve eaten her slowly," Shadow said.

To say I was surprised would be an understatement.

Did he really say those words?

These words...

"What do you think is the worst punishment?" I had asked my brother when we were kids and read the history of punishments.

"When someone is covered in honey, tied, and left on a boat in the ocean. The insects and maggots take birth to them, eat their flesh, give birth to them, and kill them slowly. That’s the worst," Alfonso had said.

Did he really hate that woman so much? But why? Was it even real?

I was about to speak more when the door opened.

"When will you introduce me to your brother?" Valencia asked, and I pressed my lips into a thin line.
