Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna
Chapter 272: Interrogation

Chapter 272: Interrogation

VALENCIA’S POV

’I am sorry. I was just trying to protect you. You...’ Aurora whispered before tears brimmed her eyes.

My pupils dilated.

This was the first time she was tearing up for something, and a part of me felt unrelieved.

I wanted to console her, but I couldn’t bring myself to say it was okay because it wasn’t.

After a quick shower, I dressed and walked out of the bathroom.

Maverick was sitting on the couch with a laptop before him as he talked to someone over the call.

He was so immersed in his work that he didn’t even gaze up.

I felt guilty for holding up so much of his time and putting him in a difficult position.

With a sigh, I was about to speak when he suddenly looked up and smiled at me dazzlingly, making my heart skip a beat.

What was Maverick smiling for? He should be annoyed with me for all I care.

’He and his wolf love us deeply. While you were lying in his arms, he didn’t catch a wink of sleep until you completely fell asleep,’ Aurora said, and I hummed.

"Are you ready to go?" He asked me.

I nodded at him before looking around.

Right. I didn’t even know if my phone was ever found or if it got lost.

"Looking for this?" Maverick lifted a black device, waving it with a knowing smile.

I looked at him in surprise.

"I found it in the forest. It was one thing that could tell us in which direction to go until I spotted Happy flying towards the destination," Maverick said.

I grabbed the phone and saw not a single scratch on it.

Turning it on, I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw all the data intact.

"I didn’t pry if that’s what you were worried about," he said, hovering over me.

I smiled at him gently.

"Is there anything else about me that you don’t know?" I asked him, and he nodded.

I furrowed my brows.

"You still haven’t told me when you are planning to marry me," Maverick said sneakily, and I chuckled at his words before he wrapped his hands around me and pulled me in for a hug.

He was edgy about something. I could feel it in his vibes.

Placing my hand over his chest, I pulled away and looked into his eyes.

"Is something wrong?" I asked.

He pressed his lips into a thin line before sighing.

"I don’t want to take you to the council chambers," he said, openly expressing his disagreement with the matter.

I immediately knew it was related to the interrogation I would go through, which would be like living the event again.

It was going to be complicated. I knew it. But I was going to cooperate with them.

Why?

Because I suspect no matter how much money she shoved into their mouths, Cordelia was still incapable of doing all this alone.

"Do you mean to hint that Tyler might be involved?" Maverick asked me, making me realize I spoke those words out loud.

"It’s just a speculation. But with his recent actions and how he had been behaving, I don’t want to rule out that possibility," I answered.

He nodded.

We were about to leave the hotel when I received a call. Seeing it was from Jonathan, I sighed.

I rejected his call.

We were going to meet in thirty minutes either way. It was not useful to speak about how I was doing and whether I was fine over the call.

I texted Jonathan that we would be there shortly, and he replied with an okay.

I placed the phone aside and looked out of the window.

Though I was pretending to be strong, honestly, I was dreading the questions too.

I knew how it was going to be. Like a rape victim is made to go through that ordeal by asking, what were you wearing, how many gues there were, where did they touch you, how many times they touched you, and who did what? It was going to be the same.

’I am with you,’ Aurora leaned to her side to comfort me.

I didn’t say anything to her.

It didn’t matter if she was here. It wasn’t like she was of much help.

Taking a deep, shaky breath, I licked my bottom lip and exited the car as soon as it stopped before the chamber’s main doors.

The guard bowed to Maverick and me before opening the door.

Jonathan and more than half of the council members were already waiting for me, and I took a shaky breath.

I could sense Maverick’s vibes turning cold and his alpha dominance taking over. It was to protect myself and myself from any speculations and loose remarks the members might make.

He wanted to ensure they would be mindful of their questions by sensing his alpha.

"I, Valencia, am here—" I started but paused when all the members suddenly stood from their places.

Their expressions were complex to decipher, and I curled my toes under my shoes nervously when Maverick held my hand and pulled me close.

"Miss Valencia, we are here to apologize to you for everything you had to go through on the grounds of the council chambers because one of our people was with that wretched woman who conspired against you and confessed to mixing drugs with your drink," Aarav suddenly said.

Seeing the grave and earnest expression on his face was a little peculiar.

I opened my mouth to speak when Dylan suddenly got on his knees.

My pupils dilated.

"I am sorry I couldn’t protect you even when I promised I would. It has always been like this. Whenever you are in the most grave situation and need someone’s help, despite the fact I am near or far, I can never protect you. I apologize for being an unreliable brother and the council head’s son," Dylan said.

I shook my head.

It wasn’t his fault.

This was a well-placed scheme, and none of us could’ve thought about it. Besides, I was partially at fault for following the voices that were actually recordings and falling into the trap.

I saw Carl following suit and getting on their knees.

All the members present in the hall started to get on their right knees, one by one, and I took a deep, shaky breath.

Seeing Uncle Jonathan, one of the men I respected the most despite our differences and fallouts from time to time, I couldn’t bear it anymore.

"Thank you, everyone. But you don’t need to kneel before me. I just hope you can go a little easy on the interrogation," I whispered the last word, not liking it already.

Jonathan nodded.

It was an irrevocable protocol, even if he didn’t want it to happen.

"You can choose the three people out of the crowd you trust the most, and they will be the ones interrogating you. A female investigation team member would accompany you just in case you feel uncomfortable," Jonathan said.

I nodded before looking at the group.

After thinking for a while, I chose the three people, and I am sure my choice shocked them.

Why? Because these three people had openly shown their dissatisfaction with my presence.

But they were also the ones who didn’t simp for me because of my post. I earned their respect through my fighting skills. I wanted the interrogation to be fair so that the investigation of the matter would turn out in fair hands.

After all, the people interrogating me will lead the investigation too.

Uncle Jonathan and Dylan already had so much work on their plates, so I didn’t want to add more.

"Valencia, are you sure about it? You know these people would do further investigation," Carl interjected.

Taking a deep breath, I nodded at them.

The three men looked at me, one of the elderly, who was constantly calling me smug earlier.

For some reason, he had a pitiful smile on his face for me.

I walked into the interrogation cell with the three men. The female joined us shortly.

They kept looking at me before one of them broke the ice.

"Can you describe what you remember before we question you about the basic details?" He asked.

I nodded at them before taking a sip of the water.

I started feeling dizzy the moment I walked out of the council chambers. As Dylan mentioned earlier, I thought it was due to the flowers in the garden.

I told them about the voices I heard and saw the conversation in the notebook.

They circled Tyler’s name, and I gulped.

I told them about how I was abducted before I opened my eyes in the dungeons, and the first man I saw was Mike.

They started asking me questions, and if Mike mentioned something about who his boss was, I denied it.

Mike never took any name. He kept saying his boss wanted me and demanded my presence, but nothing more than his lewd thoughts against me.

They nodded while jotting all the details. I saw the old man’s pen stopping when I mentioned how he tore my clothes, and Nick had come to dry hump me. Tears flowed down my cheeks, and I quickly wiped them away before sipping more water.

The female beside me caressed my back as I ended the story, and they nodded.
