Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna
Chapter 273: Stopping his punishment

Chapter 273: Stopping his punishment

VALENCIA’S POV

Once we were done with the interrogation and I answered all their questions about the matter, I stood from my place and walked out.

Seeing the hallways empty, I couldn’t help but frown.

It was strange that Alpha Maverick wasn’t waiting for me outside. I mean, I wasn’t the clingy type, but he said he would wait for me, so...

With a disappointed sigh, I turned around, wanting to go to the gardens where those flowers calmed me when I saw Aarav walking towards me.

"Looking for Alpha Maverick?" He casually remarked.

I didn’t answer.

"Well, he is probably being punished for his crimes last night. He could’ve killed those people easily, but his awful and monstrous display of murder had affected the alphas and Lunas of the other pack, especially when he did it right before the council members to exert his dominance," Aarav paused.

"More than that, he killed his mate brutally without substantial evidence and thorough research on the matter," Aarav said.

I froze in my place.

What did he say? Receiving punishment?

What kind of punishment were we talking about here?

"Where is he?" I asked.

Aarav pressed his lips into a thin line, his wavering gaze a clear indication of where they must’ve taken him.

Without wasting a second, I rushed to the punishing hall of the dungeons.

My heart beat at an immense pace as the thought of being beaten for something that wasn’t his fault and all because of me filled me with dread.

"Did you hear? They say the Dark Callisto Pack would be banished from the future alpha meets and activities for the next two years, and they will still have to labor for the council,"

"I know, right? It’s too harsh for the alpha who has always lived his life with pride,"

I heard people gossiping, and anger started to take over me.

What did they say? They will make my man labor for them?

I rushed to the middle of the hall where Maverick was on his knees, his eyes holding no emotions as he clenched his fists.

One man, probably the punisher, was standing there with a hunter whip in his hand.

It was not an ordinary whip either. The shine on the whip clearly indicated the silver it was laced with, not to mention the thorns on it.

The little blood on the whip and the marks on Maverick’s body meant they had already started to hit him, and it made my heart ache.

The man raised his whip to hit Maverick, and I gulped.

"What the hell is going on here?" I asked.

Uncle Jonathan and Dylan turned to look at me, followed by the rest of the council members and guards.

"Valencia, this is the council protocol. You need to stay out of it," Uncle Mason said.

I didn’t look at them. My gaze was fixated on my man, my fingers trembling at the pain he must be going through.

"Stand up, Maverick," I said to him.

He turned to look at me with the best smile he could muster, probably to let me know everything was fine, but did he think I was blind and couldn’t see?

"Valencia, you need to listen to the elders and -"

A new-found energy coursed through my veins as heat consumed my head. My vision started to become a little blurry and yellowish.

It was probably a reaction of anger or whatever chemical reaction, but I couldn’t care less about it.

"Didn’t you hear me, or are you pretending not to hear? I said stand up!" I shouted, feeling goosebumps rising on my skin as a growl left my mouth.

The council members stepped back.

Uncle Jonathan looked at me with a knowing look before he raised his hand, and the man who had been punishing Maverick stepped back.

Maverick stood from his place and walked to me.

"This is the council protocol, sweetheart. They need to do it. I knew something like this would happen. It’s okay. Don’t you trust me? It doesn’t hurt as much as it looks," He comforted me.

I looked into his brownish-golden orbs and couldn’t decipher what kind of man he was.

He was getting punished and going through this illogical practice, and yet he thought I needed comfort.

"Why is he being punished?" I asked Dylan, holding Mavericks’ hand and pulling him behind me.

I stood before him protectively.

I didn’t care how strong this council was or how unreasonable I was; no one was supposed to touch my man. I wouldn’t allow it, especially when he was not even at fault.

"Valencia, you know the reason. He broke the rules and –" Uncle Jonathan started.

I scoffed, tilting my head at them.

"Broke rules?" I smirked.

The psychotic side of me started to feel dominating once again.

"So pray, tell me what kind of punishment you guys have for incompetence?" I asked, looking directly into the elder’s eyes.

"A girl gets abducted at the premises of the council, and not just any girl but the daughter of the former council head; she was about to be raped, and god knows what, yet rather than investigating, you guys want to punish the person who saved her?" I asked.

Uncle Jonathan shook his head at me.

"This is not about this incident, Valencia. It is about the fact that he killed his mate without any evidence–"

I smiled.

"Would that have made any difference?" I asked.

"What are you talking about? Of course, that would’ve made a difference. We would’ve punisher the girl with the rules and –"

I nodded and interrupted the old man who was speaking before clapping my hands.

"So, Mr., are you indirectly telling me I wasn’t worthy of protection? Did you not have substantial evidence that I was being bullied in the Hazel Moon pack?" I asked, and the frozen expressions on their faces were enough to let me know I had struck a nerve indeed.

"Let’s not talk about the past because you probably didn’t have the perfect team to find the intel about it. The alpha of the pack tried to rape me when I went into heat, and it happened when so many alphas were there. The council members were there too, weren’t they? Are you saying only criminals need justice while people like me need to die first?" I asked.
