Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna -
Chapter 236: The strange flowers
Chapter 236: The strange flowers
VALENCIA’S POV
I looked into Dylan’s anxious eyes and couldn’t help but smile and shake my head.
"Of course not. I am just messing with you," I said, and I heard him sigh in relief.
"I am sorry about all of that," he whispered after some time. I was about to tell him it was fine when I heard his phone ringing, and I understood.
"This reminds me, where is your phone? Your man has been calling me nonstop after every fifteen minutes. I received three calls during the meeting itself," Dylan said, and I chuckled at him.
"My phone is in my room," I said before taking a deep breath and taking the phone from his hand.
Dylan looked at me expectantly, and I tilted my head, glaring at him and making him sigh before he shook his head and left me alone with his ringing phone.
Licking my bottom lip, feeling like a teenager in love, I answered the call and placed it over my ears.
"How long does this damn meeting go for? Is she not free yet? I am telling you, Dylan, if this is a joke, I will rip your -" Alpha Maverick sounded frustrated, and I snickered.
He immediately paused.
There was silence on the other side for some time, the silence between us speaking louder than words before he sighed.
I could hear his deep sigh through the call, and my heart skipped a beat.
"I am sorry, Mitsuki," he whispered, melting my heart even more.
I know he was busy, and that was the reason he could not return. There was nothing to be sorry about.
I didn’t say anything, wanting to feel his anxiety.
The sound of some shuffling echoed from the background before I heard a chair creak.
"Please say something, baby. You have no idea how guilty I have been feeling since you left. Please forgive me. I should’ve... I don’t know... My heart is aching. I want to punish myself for letting you down. This is the first time you asked me if something, and I failed. I don’t know what to do and ..." He started rambling.
I walked some distance, sat on the bench, and closed my eyes, hearing his rambling about his feelings before sighing.
"Baby, when you speak, it feels like the touch of an angel,
There is something about you that I can’t let go of,
Say my name like you want to feel it,
Like you are the only one who can feel it,
Tell me I am your favorite, the only person you crave," I told him once he stopped speaking.
There was silence on the other side for some time, and I thought he did not hear my words, which made my heart sink a little, but his following words caught me off guard.
"I am coming there with the next flight. Fuck you, Mitsuki," Maverick said, and I blushed scarlet, my heart beating at the pace of the bullet train at the raw desire in his wife.
"Stupid. I dare you to come here," I whispered before ending the call, placing my hand over my heart.
’Isn’t he the best?’ Aurora asked proudly as if she was the one who chose the groom for me and not the other way around.
I hummed before walking towards the flower fields.
"Hey, can you return this phone to the council head’s son?" I asked one of the guards, who nodded understandingly before taking the device.
I turned to the flower fields to learn more about this particular species.
It was exceptionally beautiful and one of a kind. I don’t think I have ever read about these flowers.
What was this species? And why was this so damn attractive and calming?
"Your father was the one who asked his father to plant all these flowers. These are special werewolf herbs that are like evergreen trees. They bloom throughout the year and have calming characteristics. Other than that, it also helps in healing," One of the council members who had been in the meeting earlier said.
I nodded, not wanting to interact too much with anyone until I was sure who the good and bad guys were there.
"I am sorry," He said, and I furrowed my brows.
Why was he apologizing?
"I should’ve started with my introduction," He said, extending his hand to me.
"I am Aarav. One of the leading members in the IT department that deals with spies, age 24 years old," He said.
I quirked my brows, bending on my ankles to observe the flower closely.
"Do you tell everyone your age?" I asked.
"Just to the people I am interested in," he said.
I turned to look at him, and he chuckled.
"Haha, sorry, I am bad at flirting," he said.
I nodded at him.
"You are wrong at choosing the people to flirt with, too. Don’t you know who my husband is?" I asked.
"You are married?" He asked.
"According to him, yes," I smiled at the way Maverick had started to call me his wife.
If anyone else had given me a title without my permission, I would’ve freaked out and shown them their place, but the way Maverick says it... It’s just... I don’t know how to describe it.
It feels like we have always been meant for each other.
"Who is your husband then?" Aarav asked with an amused smile.
"Alpha Maverick,"
I heard a familiar voice and turned to look at Carl, who sized Aarav up and down, making the guy raise his brows.
"Wait. Valencia. Valencia Brooklyn, so you are the woman Alpha Maverick called him in the Alpha’s meet? Right. How could I miss such an important detail?" Aarav placed his hand over his mouth.
I looked at him before looking at Carl, who probably understood I didn’t like an unknown company, especially such a dramatic one. He immediately told Aarav to arrange my data.
The man left, reluctance evident on his face.
"Thank you," I said to Carl, touching the petals of the flowers.
It’s so soft and calming.
"Well, after living with you for so long, I have started to judge your thoughts through your expressions," Carl said, and I hummed before looking at the flowers.
I don’t know why, but I found it really strange that such a beautiful flower species was absent from my knowledge spectrum.
Living a rogue life and studying herbs because I like eating various werewolf poisons and strengthening my immune system, I have knowledge about most of the herbs related to our species.
But this flower, these kinds of leaves, I was both watching and hearing for the first time.
"What is its name?" I asked Carl.
The man shrugged at me.
"No one knows. I was a kid at that time when everything happened. All I know is one day, your father suddenly returned from the Phoenix blood pack and asked the former council head to have these flowers in the garden," Carl explained.
"No one knows about their origins. He has brought the seeds with him. Strangely, the plants grew and bloomed in only three months. He used to come every alternate day to take care of them," Carl said.
I hummed.
"Have you seen? My father, I mean," I asked, and Carl paused before nodding.
"He was a cool man," he whispered softly, and I smiled.
"I’ll be around if you need anything," He said before leaving.
I hummed vaguely before walking further into the field that led to the forests behind the council chambers.
These forests might be part of the chambers, or why would they not place fencing over here?
I kept walking into the forests, liking the fresh, moist air.
After a while, I started to feel tired. I was about to return when I heard some shuffling behind me, which made me turn around.
I looked around, trying to find the source of the voice, but it wasn’t long before a deer stepped ahead, making me smile.
It was just a baby.
Grinning, I walked to the baby and was about to caress its head when we heard another voice, and the deer ran away.
I looked around, unsure where the second voice came from.
Was the deer running from something? But there was no fear in its eyes.
Was it his mother or something? I sighed and turned around.
I had taken a few steps only when I felt the presence of a wolf behind me.
Not just any wolf, but a rogue, and my hand went straight to my waist, where I placed my daggers.
