Chapter 233: Daughter of the Original Council Head
Chapter 233: Daughter of the Original Council Head
VALENCIA’S POV
"Are you okay?"
I snapped out of my thoughts and looked at Uncle Jonathan as we proceeded to the council chambers.
When I turned my phone on, I saw no missed calls from Alpha Maverick, so I sighed before turning it off.
It was down to one percent only, and I didn’t want to act foolish and keep checking my phone repeatedly, something I had been doing for the past hour since we got out of the airport.
I know he was busy—that was why I had reminded him to spare me 5 minutes from his busy schedule—but I guess things are indeed tough. I can’t blame him when we are continuously under attack, either.
I am already grateful that he never ceases to show me how much he loves me.
"I am fine. I’m just a little nervous," I smiled at him, and he placed his hand over mine.
"Don’t be. Nothing has changed. All we need to do is complete the acceptance ceremony," Uncle Jonathan said.
This was the primary reason I was going to the council chambers.
Though Alpha Maverick never says a word against it, after hearing what that girl Amelia noted and a few more things from Shadow, I realized that his pack members were starting to show their unacceptance towards me.
It wouldn’t have mattered as long as Alpha Maverick was on my side, but I wanted to do it for him.
He has crossed his boundaries for me and accepted me exactly as I was. Now, it was my turn to show my love.
Besides, becoming a council member was something I had been pondering over for quite some time.
Before making this decision, I consulted Theo, Jason, and Tory to find out their thoughts and whether my rogue army would be okay with it. They said they would keep things under control, which gave me even more hope in my decision.
Alpha Maverick only knew I needed to come to the council because of the recent attack on me and go through the standard procedures, which would take three days.
He disapproved of it immediately, but I don’t know what went through his head. After thinking for some time, he returned as agreed.
Sometimes, it’s really hard to decipher what’s going on inside his head. Maybe it comes down to how he was an alpha and had to think about everything while I just thought about myself.
"Once you find your pack members, if they agree to create the pack again, you can form your pack and depart from the council, but now that you know your father was the original council head, it only makes sense to join the council," Uncle Jonathan said.
They thought they were forcing me to adopt the identity, and I didn’t want it. Who would tell them I was doing it because this would bring me closer to my father and lover? I smiled and nodded at him before looking out the window.
Uncle Jonathan definitely lied to me when he said everything was the same.
As we neared the council chambers, I noticed how beautiful it had become from the last time I visited.
Maybe it was because the last time I visited, it was at night, and I stayed for a couple of hours before leaving.
I looked at the large trees on either side of the pathway.
The security of the council chambers was one of the best in the world, and it started four kilometers before the main gates.
We finally reached the main gates, and I looked at the sizable mansion-like thing in the distance.
"How the hell did I miss all this last time?" I whispered before going quiet.
How did I miss this? The last time I went to the council chambers was when I was broken and hurt and needed their permission to stay a rogue because Dylan said I could always turn to them.
"Stop thinking about it," Dylan held my hand, making me realize we were already parked before the staircase that would lead us to the door of the council chambers.
Three guards stood with spears in their hands on either side of the car and I sighed.
"Way to give someone the royal entrance," I mused, knowing all of this was for Uncle Jonathan.
I stepped out of the car calmly before grabbing my luggage.
I had only placed my hand on my suitcase when Uncle Jonathan smacked my head.
"What was that for?" I scowled and looked ahead, realizing that the council members were starting to come out of the chambers.
Well, they are obviously here to greet him. It isn’t like a girl grabbing her luggage would shame him.
I shrugged and was about to walk aside the guards when they stepped back, keeping me in the circle.
I paused and tried again, but they stepped back, not saying a word.
"Are they trying to infuriate me?" I asked Carl, who looked at me as if I cracked some kind of joke.
"They are trying to respect you. Can’t you see? All this is for you. The daughter of the Theodore Crescent has returned," Carl whispered into my ears, and I raised my brows.
Theodore Crescent? My father?
I gulped and looked at the council elders, finally realizing they were not looking at me weirdly or like I was some random girl who was here to join the council but with respect.
They were here for me.
I licked my bottom lips and looked at the guards, who had their gazes on their feet, and then at the council members, who were waiting for me to take the first step. Uncle Jonathan didn’t allow me to grab my luggage, probably because that would look tacky.
I felt even more nervous.
Uncle Jonathan said it was the same as before. Then what was all this?
I wasn’t used to people looking at me, and my fingers tremble slightly.
’Calm down, Valencia. You will have to get used to this even when you try to look for your pack members. You’ll have to make them realize they can trust you with their life and as their alpha,’ Aurora told me.
I nodded at her.
She was right. To make people believe in me, I have to appear confident and strong, no matter how nervous or anxious I am.
Even as the council member, as the alpha of my figure pack, if there would be any, the leader of the rogue team I am building, or Alpha Maverick’s Luna.
I closed my eyes briefly before taking a deep breath.
"Here," Uncle Jonathan extended his hand to me.
I looked at his hand before nodding at him.
As he gently placed my hand in his as he led me towards the stairs, like my true uncle, I felt tears brimming my eyes.
This curse, or whatever it was, has kept me away from my family for so long.
I looked down at my left hand, which was immediately grabbed by Dylan, who smiled back at me.
"We will always have your back. You lead, we will be your followers," Dylan whispered and I nodded, blinking my eyes to shoo away the tears that were threatening to fall.
He smiled before leaving my hand and placing the back of his curled index finger under my eyes.
I saw the teardrop on his finger that he kissed before smiling.
"Can’t let these go to waste," He said.
I took a deep, shaky breath before looking at the council members, forcing all the emotions in the back of my head.
They weren’t looking at Valencia, the rogue anymore. They were looking at the daughter of Theodore Crescent, the real council head who was known for his strict rules and for making all the alphas fear him.
I can’t mess this up.
With a proud expression and a subtle smile on my face, I ascended the stairs with Uncle Jonathan, not averting my gaze anymore.
