Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna -
Chapter 232: Complicated love
Chapter 232: Complicated love
MAVERICK’S POV
"This is the information we have gotten on Glacier," Shadow said, displaying the presentation, and I looked at everything with mere interest.
It wasn’t that I wasn’t interested in all the information my people were working so hard to gather, but my mind was going repeatedly over what Valencia said to me.
’Do you really think the rogue head of the southern regions was the one who actually wanted to harm me this time?’ She asked me the question before I left for the meeting.
She said it jokingly and probably just asked, but it felt like her words had a hidden meaning.
What surprised me the most was that her information was on par with us and even better when it came to things related to rogues.
I don’t know if it was because she was a rogue and probably had connections with rogues, but something was amiss.
I shook my head when Shadow asked me what they needed to do next.
"We attack," I said.
As soon as the words left my mouth, Shadow and others started to look at me as if they were shocked to hear me.
I know this came a little sudden. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t have ordered it either, but this wasn’t normal.
And it wasn’t down to because they were after my woman or tried to attack her.
I still haven’t forgotten the dead body of the girl and then that lady we received recently in a threatening manner.
They were provoking me, trying to threaten me, waiting for me to make a wrong move so they could take advantage of it, but I wasn’t willing to allow him to do it.
"This is just a suggestion. I will give you guys 15 minutes to think about the pros and cons of this suggestion without considering your personal feelings," I said and walked out of the meeting room.
It has been more than half a day since we last discussed things, and I am surely feeling tired now.
Taking a cigarette from my pocket, I was about to light it when Valencia’s smiling face appeared before my eyes. I sighed and threw the packet in the dustbin.
I wasn’t a regular smoker. I do it once or twice a week, but I also want to stop doing it. To keep her safe and sound, I got to stay healthy.
Hearing something shuffling behind me, I turned to look at Shadow, who had something to say to me.
"What is it?" I asked.
"The word has gotten out that our alpha wants to marry a rogue," Shadow said.
I hummed.
"What about it?" I asked.
"We are ready to beat all the men who would raise their heads against your decision," Shadow said, looking at me firmly, and my lips twitched.
I cleared my throat. He was indeed taking inspiration from the wrong person. Last time, it was about the attack and killing, and today, he was talking about beating anyone who would speak against me.
"You need to stop interacting with Valencia. It’s not rubbing well on your character," I commented, and the guy raised his brows.
"But, sir, she would’ve said the same things, right?" He asked me.
I looked out the window, remembering when she glared at the council members, standing before me, her eyes glaring at them, and couldn’t help but hum with a chuckle.
"Right," I said.
Shadow nodded, proud of himself, and I shook my head.
"I already have one troublemaker to take care of. I don’t want my men to turn into her. She knows how to take care of things..." I paused.
It strangely pisses me off too. Why is she so capable?
Why can’t she run to me whenever she feels something is wrong? Why does she have to run into trouble with open arms herself?
I am the man and am supposed to protect my woman, but rather than that, she comes to me and tells me she will fix everything.
It’s amusing, and I would be honest, it’s infuriating too.
I want to be able to spoil her. I want to make her feel like she can sit back, relax, and rely on her man to make things right for her.
I didn’t want her to be incapable. I wanted her to live her life freely and just like she was living—it’s just... I don’t even know how to describe it.
I want to protect her, hide her from the world and all those men who are after her, and I want her to stay safe in my arms.
Was it too much to ask? Was I overreacting? At this point, I don’t know what to do.
My love for her was increasing. Even though I try to show her all of my love in every form possible, it feels like I am not doing enough, like I am not even able to show her half of what I feel for her.
This feeling was enchanting and nerve-racking, given how I dealt with a strong woman.
Then again, I wasn’t supposed to fall for a weak woman, either. Her character and resilience made me fall for her in the first place.
’You want to control her, Aurelius. You and I both know that’s practically impossible and the day you try to control her, you will lose her. She might love us now, but she has her priorities too,’ Reaper whispered.
I furrowed my brows.
What did he mean by priorities? Was I not her priority? Is that what he means?
’Tell me, Maverick. Do you think she doesn’t desire a peaceful life as a woman? She doesn’t want to stay home, relax, and enjoy her life. She has a curse haunting her, a devil wanting her, a fake sister hurting her, and an ex-mate scaring her. Do you think she can fight that all in her head and stay at home like you want?’ Reaper asked me.
I looked down at my hands.
Now that he mentioned those things, I felt pathetic for thinking about all those things. I was never an over-thinker; I wasn’t a lover either.
’It’s frustrating. Do you also think we are incapable?’ I asked.
Reaper smiled.
’I think you need to get a grip over your emotions because they are definitely leaking. We are more than capable of killing everyone who wants to hurt her. But do you think she would appreciate it? Haven’t you judged her enough?’ Reaper asked me.
I sighed, understanding the meaning of his words.
’Her revenge is her own, and she would despise us if we interrupted with that. What we can do is be with her, be her home, be her peace, because that’s exactly what she is to us,’ Reaper said.
I nodded my head and took a deep breath.
I massaged my forehead before looking at Shadow.
"What else?" I asked.
"Sir, I know it was shameful for me to do, but I eavesdropped on Miss Valencia’s conversation with someone named Jason," Shadow said.
I raised my brows.
"And?" I asked.
"She was talking about something like getting back at Hazel Moon’s pack for what they did," Shadow said.
I hummed.
"Okay, anything else?"
"The recent attack came from the Hazel Moon pack," Shadow said, and this was definitely news to me.
What did he say?
Without wasting a second, I wanted to dial Valencia’s number, wanting to ask her why she didn’t tell me things directly but rather joked about it. But when I saw it switched off, I sighed and asked Shadow to charge it.
I took Shadow’s mobile to call her, but she didn’t pick up. I furrowed my brows.
I looked at the time and finally realized my mistake.
She had told me she was to leave for the council chambers in the evening.
It was already past evening.
Why didn’t I realize the time?
I called Dylan, Carl, and Jonathan individually, but no one picked up.
They probably left.
I couldn’t kiss her bye.
She reminded me thrice to return on time, and even if she had tried to call me, my phone was switched off.
"Fuck!" I took my coat and hurried back to the apartment to see if she left anything for me. She always leaves a note.
Please, Moon Goddess, don’t let her be too angry. I prayed.
