Beast Alpha and His Cursed Luna -
Chapter 173: Death Anniversary
Chapter 173: Death Anniversary
VALENCIA’S POV
"What’s wrong with Alpha Maverick? I have been trying to reach him for some time, but no matter how many times I called him, he hasn’t been picking up my calls," I asked as soon as I reached the apartment.
I was in the forest half an hour ago, and since he has been trying so hard to talk to me and make me his partner, I was hoping to do it.
Why? Because Theo did his work as I had instructed him.
The recent explosions in the Hazel Moon pack canceled Tyler’s travel arrangements here. In fact, no one from that area was allowed to enter this city, which was more than a boon to me.
And now that I was carefree about that matter, I wanted to see and meet a few alphas personally.
I wanted to see how the ones I tormented and fought earlier with my hidden personality have been holding up so far.
Dylan looked at Carl as soon as I asked him this question, and judging from their expression, I felt it was something serious.
Was there something going on that I had no idea about?
"Tell me where he is. Has something happened?" I asked them, hoping they would tell me the truth.
Dylan cleared his throat.
"Well, you see Valencia..." Dylan paused.
Something was definitely wrong. He wasn’t a person who randomly struggled to find the right words. He says whatever he wants most of the time.
"I don’t think you should," Carl said to Dylan, and I scowled.
I swear, one of these days, I will open his head and see why he usually opposes me so much.
It’s not like I am getting into trouble by asking about Alpha Maverick now.
Besides, Maverick always asks about me, and they don’t see a problem telling him what I am doing most of the time.
"If you don’t tell me, then it’s fine. I can always go to his pack and demand his presence," I said, glaring at Dylan, a clear indication for him not to test my patience.
He sighed as he looked at me.
"It’s... it’s a special day for Alpha Maverick today, Valencia. His parents were killed in a rogue attack today, the day he was handed the Pack’s responsibility. I am sure he isn’t picking up your calls because he wants to be alone," Dylan said.
I didn’t like the sound of it.
His parents were killed today? Of course, he was sad and wanted to be alone.
But I didn’t want that.
The fact that he was going through this painful memory all alone ached my heart, and I clenched my fists.
"Thank you for telling me," I said.
Without wasting a second, I rushed out of the apartment before they could say anything.
"Happy," I called my bird, who flew towards me from some distance out of nowhere.
"Can you try to locate where Alpha Maverick is?" I asked him.
The bird didn’t need to be told twice and flew away immediately.
I waited for the bird to arrive as I went straight to the forest to see if I could stumble upon someone who could tell me whether the man was in the pack.
I didn’t want to enter the pack because it would be like entering the lion’s den with blood stains on my body and no backup whatsoever.
Happy returned after some time before flailing his wings in the west direction where the mountains were.
So he went to the mountains to calm his sadness. I sighed before thanking Happy.
If it had been at night, I would’ve asked him to help me travel, but it was still evening, and I didn’t want anyone to spit on us and suspect things about me.
I licked my lips before sitting back on my bike riding it towards the mountains.
After a journey of 45 minutes, I finally reached the top of the mountains where Happy mentioned the man was.
I got off the bike and looked at his hunched back.
"Valencia, not today," He whispered, already sensing my presence.
He wanted to be alone, and he made it clear numerous times, but how great it would’ve been if I had really been someone who listened to people.
Rather than being afraid of his anger, I walked up to him, maintaining a respectful distance, and sat beside him.
None of us said anything for some time, and I just lay on my back, my legs hanging freely from the cliff.
After what felt like an eternity, he looked at me from the corner of his eyes.
"What are you doing here? Why did you come if you didn’t want to say anything?" He asked, his voice detached and void of emotions, making me sigh.
I shrugged.
"I suck at comforting people. My parents died, too. But no one ever consoled me about it, so I don’t know how to do it," I said, and he looked at me for a few seconds before massaging his forehead.
"Do you know why I came here?" I asked when he did not say anything.
He didn’t reply but looked at me briefly to let me know I had his attention.
"I didn’t want you to go through this alone. You can continue what you are doing. I just want to be here if you need someone," I whispered.
"Aren’t you afraid of me?" He asked, more like gritting those words.
I looked at his side profile carefully.
"Should I be?" I asked, and he clenched his fists.
I knew he was annoyed with my presence, and I should have left him alone, but I didn’t want to.
Many people would call me annoying, persistent, or someone who didn’t understand the situation, but I didn’t want to leave him alone.
Why? When I am sad, though I want to be left alone, I also crave someone’s presence who will understand me.
Everyone’s way of coping with this emotion is different, but everyone, as long as they have a heart, craves affection in one way or another.
"Can I hug you?" I asked after some time.
He said nothing for some time, and I approached him carefully.
I sat close to him before bringing my hands around him.
I wanted him to place his head on my shoulders, but he was too big for me to put down, especially when he was unwilling and didn’t want it.
I was about to place my head on his hand when he surprised me and leaned to my side, placing his head on my head, giving me enough space to put my head on his shoulders.
I sighed.
Letting my left hand rest on his back, I patted him softly to let him know everything would be alright.
"You are a trouble magnet. Do you know my beta and pack members don’t come near me today?" Maverick asked, and I sighed.
"Well, you probably don’t love them like you love me. It makes a difference," I said, freezing in my place.
I just didn’t say those words aloud, did I?
I bit my bottom lip and was about to remove my head from under him when he held my right hand and squeezed it as if asking me not to leave.
I didn’t move and gulped, my heart beating at the pace of a bullet train.
"Probably," he said after a drawn-out silence.
"I was just joking. You don’t need to take my words seriously," I quickly added.
He just hummed.
"By the way, how did you find out? Who told you?" Maverick asked.
I smiled awkwardly.
"Will you promise me not to cause them any trouble if I tell you the names?"
He didn’t say anything, which clearly indicated that he was thinking of doing something to them but chose against it.
"Hmm," he said, and I told him Dylan mentioned it briefly to me when I said I would go to his pack and demand answers.
Maverick chuckled a little before taking a deep breath as he sat straight.
I looked at him, biting my lips.
"Why do you want to be alone? You always tell me to be with you, to call you, or rely on you. When couldn’t you trust me, too? Do you think I am such a bad person to become someone’s company?" I asked.
Maverick shook his head, his eyes a little moist.
"That’s not the case. I just didn’t want my emotions to affect you. I like it when you smile. These things... They are painful, and I don’t want you to feel anything. I have noticed. You are an empath," Maverick said.
I removed my head from his shoulders and looked at him.
"So what? So what if I feel your pain a little? If that makes you happy, I will take all of it," I whispered.
He looked into my eyes for a few seconds before he massaged his forehead.
"And then they ask me why I have started to like you. You are good with your words," he whispered, making me smile.
