ALPHA MAVERICK’S POV

"What are you doing? Why do I smell soap and perfume?" I asked as soon as I came out of Carl’s room after using the washroom, and the man furrowed his brows.

"Soap? But I am not doing anything. What are you talking about?" Carl asked before he widened his eyes.

As soon as I looked into his wide eyes, I knew something was wrong, and both of us immediately rushed to Valencia’s room.

I looked around and gritted my teeth when I noticed the girl was nowhere in her room.

"You just checked on her five minutes ago. Don’t tell me she took a bath, got ready, and jumped out of the window in five minutes only," I asked him, gritting my teeth.

Sometimes I wonder if these people in the council deliberately help this girl in her mischievous adventures.

"Now where could she have gone right after waking up?" I asked Carl, hoping he would know the answer to at least this simple question.

"To party," he said, and to say his answer surprised me would be an understatement.

"What’s up, brother?" Carl asked in a joyful voice, probably to hide the fact that he messed up and didn’t know where Valencia was.

"One job, Carl. I gave you one job that you need to do with utmost care. TAKE CARE OF VALENCIA! What the fuck have you been doing? Why am I hearing about her from a local cop? She is being held in the police station at the moment because she got into a fight with humans. This is so not her. What the hell did you do to provoke her?" Dylan asked.

I raised my brows in surprise.

This was something completely unexpected.

I mean, I would’ve expected him to scold Carl because he found out about the poisoning incident somehow or that she was missing from his care somehow, but prison?

It was surprising how rather than blaming Valencia for her actions, Dylan immediately went ahead with blaming Carl, who probably didn’t do anything to annoy her.

The blind trust Dylan has in Valencia was really appalling and concerning at the same time.

"Brother, what happened is that -" Carl explained everything to Dylan in detail.

Though the phone wasn’t on speaker, I was able to hear everything because of my alpha hearing and I could hear Dylan taking a deep breath.

"So Alpha Maverick is there with you at this time?" Dylan asked, and Carl looked at me before humming.

"Do you know how much work I have to do? V went ahead and killed some rogues again. I have to look into what provoked her once again. Go and handle this matter first. If something happened to her and she came to me with a complaint, no one would be worse than me for you at that time. You know she is everything to me," Dylan said.

I looked at Carl who ended the call and massaged his forehead.

Dylan’s words... Why did it feel like he said those words to me more than he said those words to Carl? Is she everything to him? Well, unlucky him because everything was going to be mine sooner or later.

"Well, now we know where she went. Do you want to come along?" Carl asked, and I hummed.

As soon as I got out of the car after driving for a few minutes, I felt a weird pressure in the air and couldn’t help but narrow my eyes as I looked around the police station to see if I could find anyone.

What was going on here? Why did it feel like Valencia wasn’t the only supernatural person inside this police station? I looked at Carl, and judging from his uneasy expression, I knew I wasn’t the only one who felt this pressure.

"Let’s go," He said and we entered the police station.

"Yes?" The human officer asked as soon as we went inside.

"We are here for Miss Valencia Brooklyn. The girl who got held back for beating up some hum- for some people," Carl said, and the officer raised his brows.

"So you are her Guardians?" He asked, and Carl hummed vaguely before producing his ID from his pocket.

"So, what did she do this time?" Carl asked, a clear indication that he had been here before too, something that confused me because I knew most of the werewolf cases in human territory.

This brings me back to the realization of how well Valencia was hiding from me and if that council member hadn’t leaked the information, I would’ve probably never found out about her before she moved back to the council.

"It’s not that serious. She is just completing some procedures inside the office. We have done our investigation already and it was indeed the other party who was at fault. She is one brave woman to fight a gang of 15 members single-handedly," The officer said and Carl rolled his eyes.

I know what he must be thinking.

She was indeed quite capable, but more than that she was a magnet who attracted trouble.

"Are you for real? You clearly rolled it wrongly. Don’t think you can fool me. Hey, you saw it too, didn’t you? I watched with my hawk-like eyes. You can’t fool me,"

We heard Valencia’s annoyed voice and Carl massaged his forehead again.

"Not again," he whispered under his breath before opening the door.

As soon as the door opened, I was surprised by the scene in front of me... I don’t even know why I bother with getting surprised again and again.

I looked at the three officers who were sitting with her, playing Ludo while she was shouting at the chief inspector of the station.

’Only her. Only our woman has the caliber to stay in a police station and scold the chief inspector. What a hot site,’ Reaper said and I hummed.

As if she finally felt our presence, she turned around, her glare meeting with Carl that immediately softened when her eyes locked with mine.

I felt pride coursing my veins when I realized how her body and eyes reacted when she looked at me.

"You don’t really look like you are in trouble," Carl said before he took a chair and sat beside her, his hand resting on her shoulders as he shook hands with the officers.

Their interaction amused me. Carl was clearly holding back from scolding the girl in front of everyone.

"Mr. Maverick? What are you doing here?" The chief, who finally recognized me, immediately widened his eyes and quickly got up from his chair, immediately bowing to me.

I looked at him briefly before nodding at him.

I looked at my woman who was looking at me warily as if trying to figure out how he knew me.

"I had to come when I heard that my woman was being held back," I said, and I watched in pleasure as everyone widened their eyes, including my woman herself.

Huh, the joy of seeing this surprise on her face... How much I desired I could just bite her cheeks at this moment.
