Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse
Chapter 402: Do You Still Grant Wishes?

Chapter 402: Do You Still Grant Wishes?

Bishop watched from behind a tree as several old school army trucks rumbled down the path toward New Dawn Sanctuary. He was the one who had found all the parts. He was the one to put the vehicles together, grateful that they didn’t have any electrical components.

And now, the Sanctuary was profiting off his hard work.

The past him would have just let it go. He would have considered it beneath him to argue with the humans. After all, they were just doing what was in their nature. In fact, it was almost amusing to watch them scurry around like little ants, trying to get ahead in life.

But now it just managed to piss him off all that much more. They didn’t deserve anything of his, and it was about time that he took it all back.

Stepping in front of the convoy, he forced the lead car to stop.

"What de fuck, buddy," snarled a man, coming out of the front passenger seat. He had a rifle cradled in his arms like he was trying to prove that he was a threat, but not ready to act on it.

Silly mortal, didn’t he realize that the difference between life and death was a single second?

"Dere be easier ways ta die in dis world," continued the man, strolling forward until he was standing right in front of Bishop. It appeared that Bishop had been gone long enough that it seemed like no one recognised his face. Now wasn’t that just convenient?

"There are," smiled Bishop. He nodded his head, his hands deep in his pockets while he cocked his head to the side. "There are also a lot harder ways, too. Have you tried bleeding to death or being eaten by zombies?"

The man looked over his shoulder at the rest of his comrades as he scoffed. "I don’t know where you have been, buddy," chuckled the man as he turned back to Bishop. "But dere be no zombies in de world now."

"It’s the zombie apocalypse, even if you don’t see them, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t there," announced a female voice as she stepped out of the forest beside Bishop. "Besides, who doesn’t have a zombie or two in the basement?"

Bishop looked down at the woman at his side, her petite frame only coming up to about mid-chest. "Long time no see, Shorty," he said, his voice tentative.

"You have no idea," sighed the woman, taking out a lollypop from mid-air and sticking it in her mouth. "But I got wish tingles and decided to come and play."

"Tank won’t be happy that you’re gone," advised Bishop, turning away from the man in front of him.

"Apparently, Tank is always around. He’s just smart enough to let me play a bit. If things get out of hand, he’ll step in."

"Look, I donna know what’s goin’ on between you two, but I have places to be and people to feed," sneered the man, not happy that Bishop’s attention was no longer on him. Considering where they were and what they were doing, he should be considered the biggest threat.

Instead, the other man was looking at the woman like he didn’t know how to approach her. It was a completely different attitude from what he had with him, and frankly, the man with the gun was getting pissed.

"Feed?" asked the girl, tilting her head to the side. Her pigtails followed her motion, and the smile on her face was cold and sharp. "With what supplies?"

The man sputtered as he turned around. They had about eleven jeeps, filled to the brim with supplies. How could she be so blind as to not see them?

"Are you blind?" he asked, confusion apparent on his face. "Because I’ve found enough food ta feed the base for months."

"Sure you have," smirked the woman as she grabbed the bigger man’s arm. "We’ll just let you go. Have a good day and don’t let the zombies bite!"

The man snorted, not at all impressed as he climbed back into the passenger seat of the jeep. "Whatever," he sneered as the couple moved to the side. Waving his hand, the convoy started up again.

I looked Bishop up and down, taking in the dirty clothes and the dried blood on his boots. "You’ve seen better days," I said, a half smirk on my face. "How has exile been for you?"

"Great," replied Bishop, a mirror copy of her smile on his own face. "Everything has been a walk in the park. Although he wasn’t wrong with the whole zombie thing. I haven’t seen a single undead in weeks."

"It’s been weeks?" I muttered under my breath. Oh well, I just needed to roll with the punches. After all, what was time but a human construction? I was looking at eternity, once my soul was all back together, so a week or two wasn’t that big of a deal in the long run. "What’s your plans?"

"Plans?" asked Bishop, raising an eyebrow. "What do you mean, plans?"

"I don’t know," I answered with a shrug. "Everyone keeps asking me that question, so I thought it was part of a normal conversation."

One of Bishop’s eyebrows arched up as he studied me like I was some sort of oddity. I mean, I was, but still. Rude much?

"Death and destruction," he said calmly. "You?"

"About the same," I shrugged. "I just haven’t figured whose death and whose destruction. There’s a list."

Bishop nodded as if it made all the sense in the world. "Well, Sophia, Alicia, and Réne are mine," he announced calmly. Intrigued, I nodded in agreement.

"Do you still grant wishes?"

"I do," I replied with a bright smile on my face. "And I might even give you a friendship discount... if we aren’t talking war between us anymore."

"We aren’t," assured Bishop. "I’ve learned my lesson after that day in Dante’s office."

"I figured. Not even you can be that stupid to keep helping those who want you dead for simply being different. Want to know a secret?" I smiled at him as I started walking away. Like I thought, he quickly followed after me.

"Sure," smiled Bishop, feeling more like the man who had made me dinner and less like the one who wanted my death.

"Everyone is a demon; they just don’t know it yet."
