Chapter 358: There’s Always Hattie
As if to emphasize Beau’s point, the once cloudless sky burst open, soaking everyone who was on the deck in rain. The water fell down so hard and fast that it almost seemed to crush some of the humans, sending them down to the ground.
"Fun," sighed Luca, closing his eyes. Cracking his neck from side to side, he looked at Beau. "Can’t you control it?" he demanded, hating the feeling of being wet. It didn’t help that there was so much force coming down that each raindrop felt like a hammer beating against him.
"What? Can’t handle a bit of rain?" smirked a completely dry Beau. However, before any of the other men could reply, he waved his arm and the rain avoided the seven men, falling around them but no longer on them.
The water power user even went as far as to make sure that everyone was nice and dry before they made their way down the steps where everyone else was being punished by the weather.
"I know you wanted water," smiled Dante as he looked over at Colt. The other man was valiantly trying to shield Sadie from the onslaught, but the two of them were still taking a beating. "But don’t you think it’s time to get blow deck? Or are you trying to prove a point?"
At the sound of his voice, Colt looked up at the seven men, acting like gods on the deck of his boat. "If you can shield yourselves from the rain, why don’t you extend the courtesy to everyone else?" demanded the man, even as one harsh drop ripped a chunk of skin from his bare arm.
"Like you said, it’s a courtesy," smiled Beau as the men made their way over to Colt. "Why would I bother to extend it to ungrateful survivors? I mean, so far, the only reason why you are still living is because of my woman."
Colt turned white, but before he could reply, he felt a shifting motion coming from the boat. Looking around, he saw that the flood waters were rising so high that they actually managed to dislodge the ship from where it was stuck between the two mountains.
The wood of the ship creaked in protest, but the second it was freed, Colt, Sadie, and the rest of the humans watched on in awe and fear as the vessel seemed to heal itself. It was like something from a nightmare. One moment, the entire front hull was destroyed by rocks, and the next, it was back and better than ever.
"How?" gasped Sadie, no longer caring about the rain.
"Your wish," replied Tank, his voice emotionless as he narrowed his eyes at the woman. "Remember? You set the terms."
"Right," the woman replied, nodding her head. "I forgot about that."
Dante hummed but didn’t say anything. The ship was still rising so rapidly that it was hard for a normal person to keep their balance. Screams started to be heard from the men and women who had chosen to remain on the deck.
Luckily, those with children were smarter, bringing them down into the belly of the ship at the first sign of danger.
The ship lurched back and forth as the waves crashed against the rocks, causing people to slide all over the deck. One woman screamed as she fell over the side of the ship, only to disappear beneath the water.
"I wonder if there are any dolphins here," mused Luca, a bright smile on his face as he looked around at the wet humans. They weren’t as smug as they were when they were waiting for the drama to unfold. Now, they looked a lot like drowned rats.
"We need to..." started Sadie, looking over at Colt. However, the man was already shaking his head. "We can barely save ourselves, let alone others," he grunted, an angry look on his face as he turned to Dante and the others.
It was like he was blaming them for not rescuing the survivor.
Beau simply returned his look with a smirk of his own, not backing down for a second. The house wanted them to burn down the world? Well, might as well start with those on the ship.
Speaking of... the ship seemed to pause for a moment before rushing forward, pressing between the gulf of two mountains, the water rushing them forward.
"Well," smiled Chang Xuefeng, pulling back his hood. "Look at it this way. At least we don’t have to worry about steering."
The rocky walls rose high above the ship, blotting out the light from the sun and plunging the boat into complete darkness. Ronan walked over to the edge of the ship and held out his hand. Feeling the wet walls of the mountain, he withdrew his hand.
"It’s a tight fit," he announced, looking down at his palm.
"Dat’s what she said," smirked Désiré. "Anyone want ta lay odds on whether we survive this tunnel of death or get stuck here forever and ever?"
One of the survivors who had overheard him let out a soft whimper as she clutched to the man who was holding her.
"No takers?" smirked Désiré as he raised an eyebrow in challenge as he stared at Colt. "Well, now. You’re no fun."
"I don’t think that placing bets on our survival is entirely appropriate," said Sadie, her voice soft. Thanks to the rocks overhead, the rain was dying back, even as the flood waters rushed forward, forcing the ship to go with them.
"Meh," shrugged Dimitri. "It’s de end of de world. Might as well ’ave a bit of fun where we can find it."
"There’s also Hattie," nodded Colt, straightening his back now that he wasn’t being pelted by rain. "She can always save us if it comes to it."
The smile disappeared from Désiré’s face as the rest of the guys turned stoic. "Right," agreed Tank with a nod of his head. "Let’s leave it to the 22-year-old to rescue all of us adults."
