Chapter 351: Over Here Dying
"Perfect," I purred. "Then get Sadie on the boat, no matter what she says. I have all her stuff with me; all you need is her."
"What do you mean?" asked Colt, going back to the growly lumberjack that I had first met. That was probably a good thing. This sensitive side to him was making me break out in hives.
"We are running out of time," I said flatly. As if to prove my point, a giant wave crashed against the side of the building, sending the gangplank crashing into the window frame, almost causing the two people on it to fall into the waters.
The dolphins chirped happily as they came to the surface, their shiny black eyes staring at the two people like they were an offering to the gods.
"Can’t you just snap your fingers and get us all on that boat?" snarled Colt. He spun around, trying to find Sadie to get her to safety. I had to admit, that man was starting to grow on me a bit. At least he was loyal which was more than I could say about most people nowadays.
"I could," I agreed with a nod and a smile. "But I’m really not that nice. Anyone who falls behind gets left behind. Isn’t that part of the pirate code?"
"We’re not fucking pirates," grunted Colt as he finally found his woman.
"The ship suggests differently," I smiled back. "After all, it was Sadie’s wish that manifested it. Maybe that was the image she had in her head when making it."
Grumbling under his breath about women who read too many romance books, Colt stormed off, leaving me with my three men.
"At some point in time, I need you back in your other form," I sighed as I continued to pet Tank. "I kinda want to cuddle, and your human side is better at it. I really can’t pull off the big spoon."
As soon as the words were out of my mouth, Tank shifted back into human skin, clothes and all. There were a few startled gasps and more than a few curse words from the men in the room, but I ignored them all in favor of leaning against Tank’s chest.
"Thank you," I sighed, my eyes drifting shut. I had no idea why I was feeling this way, but all I knew was that I was both prickly and cuddly at the same time.
"Anything for you," replied Tank as he scooped me up in his arms. Walking over to the open window, he looked down at the churning waters for a second before simply jumping onto the ship.
"We’ll let Colt and Sadie handle the rest of the survivors," he smiled as his feet gently touched down on the deck. It was almost like he had been flying, his feet never once touching anything but the first foot of the gangplank. "Now, what can I get you?"
Resting my head on his chest, I looked around at the ship.
Colt wasn’t too far off when he had called it a pirate ship. Everywhere I looked, it was black. But it wasn’t dingy. In fact, it looked like it had just been scrubbed clean, the floors sparkling under the sun like brilliant diamonds.
There was a set of stairs leading up to a massive wheel and a crow with razor-sharp teeth perched comfortably on top.
Even for how early it was, the sun shone brightly, the rays reflecting off everything it landed on. From the water to the ship itself, nothing was able to escape the punishing onslaught. I thought I had experienced heat in O City, but it was nothing like it was here.
Even with the slight breeze, there was no relief from the weather.
"Over there," I announced, pointing to where several deck chairs were placed on the other side of the ship. They looked out over a vast expanse of water, with only a small mountain range in the distance showing any sort of land formation.
Tank nodded his head as the rest of the Sins, and Chang Xuefeng joined us on the ship. Carrying me over, he gently placed me down and went to sit in the lounge chair beside me.
"Alls I need is a cold one, an’ dis be heaven," grunted Dimitri as he slid in beside me. Taking my hand, he kissed the top of it before letting go and getting himself comfortable. "I’ve missed you, Kitten."
I knew what he met. As much as we have always been together, it seemed like we hadn’t been.
"Missed you, too," I agreed, just as mini tables with beers and a fruity, slushy drink with an umbrella appeared next to me and everyone else. "Next time, I choose the vacation spot, okay?"
"None of us be choosin’ dis," grunted Désiré as he grabbed a chair a few down from me. Getting comfortable, he twisted the top off his beer and started to drink.
"You are still on thin ice," I hissed back at him, remembering how he had willingly given my candy to a kid.
"Look around, pet," smiled Désiré, using the bottle to point up at the sun. "It’s so hot, dere ain’t no ice to worry about."
"Hmmm," I hummed, nodding my head slowly as I picked up my own drink. "That doesn’t mean I won’t remember what you did for all time."
"Now, Cher," purred Ronan, taking the lounge chair beside Dimitri. "Dat be positively evil."
"They don’t call me Luci for nothing," I reminded him, letting the cold drink melt down my throat before landing in my empty tummy. I probably should eat something. I don’t actually remember the last time I had sat down to a proper dinner.
It was probably the last time I sat down in the house...
My stomach gurgled in protest as I thought about food. I was still dreaming about what I wanted to eat when Colt stomped over to me, his eyes flashing with anger. "We’re over here dying, and you are treating this like a fucking cruise ship!"
"Silly man," I replied, putting on a bright smile. "You aren’t dying. Although, if you really want to experience it, I could help you with that, too."
