Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse -
Chapter 352: Ungrateful
Chapter 352: Ungrateful
I could hear Sadie’s voice in the distance, making sure that the survivors stayed organized, even as they went hunting for a room or a place to sleep.
Colt was standing over me, blocking the sun from view as his chest rose and fell like I was personally responsible for the apocalypse and everything shitty in his life. I mean, I wasn’t completely innocent, but I wasn’t responsible for any of this shit.
In fact, if the house hadn’t sent us here, he and everyone with him would have downed when the building collapsed or been eaten by the killer dolphins.
When I pointed that fact out to him, he turned even redder as he started grumbling under his breath.
Suddenly, the apartment gave one last loud groan before completely collapsing. As a result, the water around us turned violent; the waves from the impact of the building falling sent us bobbing up and down like apples.
The people on the deck let out a startled scream as a few children started to cry, their loud wails giving me a headache. "It looks like Sadie could use some help," I stated, cocking my head to the side as Colt tried to form a word or two.
Finally giving up, he spun around and stormed off.
"Looks like ’e doesn’t understand it yet," sighed Beau as he raised his beer to the sky. The ship was still going up and down with the waves, and I could hear the dolphin chirping happily, waiting for someone else to fall into the water.
"Doesn’t understand what?" I asked, taking a sip of my own drink. I knew that nothing would or could hurt this ship. It was part of the wish, after all. So, as long as I stayed on it, I would be perfectly safe. I might as well enjoy the impromptu cruise. The devil only knew when I would get another one.
"Dat dis is your world," smiled Dimitri, twisting the cap of his second beer. "We just live in it."

I must have drifted off to sleep because the next thing I could hear was a long list of curse words and the sound of familiar footsteps coming toward me. Not bothering to open my eyes, I pretended to be asleep, hoping that the man would take the hint and go away.
"We need to talk," grunted Colt as he once again blocked out the sun. I would probably have to put on some sunscreen before I burnt to a crisp.
"So talk," replied Dante with the same tone as Colt. If the other man thought that we were easily pushed around, then he really had another thing coming.
"Everything is gone," announced Colt, like this was some big revolution.
"No shit Sherlock," grunted Chang Xuefeng. "Did you figure that all out on your own?"
"Not everything is gone," I interjected, pointing to where the mountains had been. "It’s just that everything is underwater at the moment. You can still see the mountains. Kind of."
"And how do we know where we are going?" demanded one of the other survivors. There was a clear line between Colt, the survivors, and me and my men. We were the outsiders, and no matter how many good deeds we have done for them, we will always remain outsiders.
Ungrateful fuckers.
"Why?" asked Luca, his voice carrying over to me. "Do you have someplace to be?"
"Not on a fucking haunted ship would be a good start," snarled the survivor, getting even bolder with Colt next to him.
It was also funny that Colt had no problem using me when he needed me, but now that Sadie was safe and sound, his mask had dropped away.
"Funny," I replied, my voice impassive. "I haven’t seen a single ghost yet. If you see one, make sure you ask them where we are going."
"Fucking bitch," sneered a soft voice from behind us.
Finally opening my eyes, I stared at Colt. "Be careful about biting the hand that feeds you. Every one of you can die, and I won’t lose a moment of sleep."
"You already promised me that you would keep Sadie alive and happy," shrugged Colt with a dark smile on his face. "That means you have to keep all of us alive. Otherwise, Sadie will be upset. You wouldn’t break one of your wishes, would you?"
There was a low murmuring of people behind me, all agreeing with Colt’s words.
"I see," I sighed, closing my eyes again. "That is what you think."
"That is what I know," smirked Colt. "Now, tell me, where the fuck are we going? The fucking crow won’t let us near the ship’s wheel to steer it."
"Then clearly the bird knows where we are going," said Dante. His voice was harsh, and I could feel the promise of violence coming from him and the rest of my men. But they knew me well enough to know that I could handle myself. "Ask him."
"Fuckers," grunted the man who had come to stand beside Colt.
Before anyone could say anything else, Sadie stormed over to us, planting herself firmly between me and Colt. "You need to back off," she announced. While I couldn’t see the look on her face, I could at least tell that she wasn’t impressed. "She saved us. They helped us with heat, healing, water, and everything else. The only reason why we are alive is because of her. So back off."
"Sadie," sighed Colt, his tone completely changing as he spoke to her. "We are on a ship that we have no control over. We have no idea where we are going, and those dolphins are following us."
"None of which we can control," replied Sadie, her voice turning soft. "Everywhere we look, there is water. For all we know, we are the last remaining people in Country N. What’s the point in worrying whether we are heading east or west? We are alive, and I, for one, think that that is a good thing."
"What about food?" interjected Colt. "And drinkable water? We need more than hopes and dreams to stay alive. We need to get supplies. I won’t watch you die."
"There’s food below deck," I called out. "It’s part of Sadie’s wish. The ship is to keep you all alive, and it can’t do that without food. Not to mention, there is probably fish you can eat. How do you feel about sushi?"
