Chapter 347: Kindness Should Be Rewarded

Chapter 347: Kindness Should Be Rewarded

Sadie and Colt turned to look at me, their hands still clasped together as if they were trying to understand my words. "You grant wishes?" muttered Colt, even as the very building around us started to groan.

"I grant wishes," I agreed. "And before you ask, there are no limitations, I can bring back the dead, and I can make people fall in love with each other." Sadie looked at me, stunned before she looked out of the window.

"I asked for heat," she muttered softly under her breath.

Nodding my head, I walked over to where Chang Xuefeng was standing in the doorway like a guardian angel. Lifting my arms up, I wiggled my fingers.

"Words help, princess," chuckled Chang Xuefeng, even as he was already bending down to lift me up.

"Why?" I smiled at him, kissing his cheek. "You always know exactly what I want."

Before he could reply, we were both shoved out of the way as a younger man came barreling into the apartment. "It’s bad," he announced, clearly out of breath but not willing to stop long enough to take one. "The waters drop, then rise, then drop, then rise."

Okay. I think I might have been blonde in a past life or something because that didn’t make a lot of sense. Looking around the room at the confused looks, I was glad to see that I wasn’t the only one.

Sucking in a deep breath as if realizing that he wasn’t getting his point across, the guy that shoved the Grim Reaper to the side stopped for a second. "It’s not like any flood I’ve ever seen," he announced finally. "It ebbs and flows like a tide. Sometimes, the water is as deep as the sixth floor, and others, it drops to the third. However, this isn’t a twice-a-day thing; it’s every hour."

Colt nodded his head as if he understood what was both being said and not said. "Tell everyone to gather what they need to take with them, one bag each. They have to be able to carry it themselves, and then meet us back in the common room."

"Are we going to die?" asked the younger man, a touch of vulnerability to his voice.

"This isn’t the fucking Titanic," snarled Colt, snapping the guy out of his thoughts. "We are going to be just fine. No one is dying unless they do something stupid."

I nodded my head in agreement, knowing fully well that no human was going to be smart all the time. I just had to wonder if Sadie could deal with more deaths.

The man spun around and raced back out of the room before Sadie turned to me. "I wish," she started, clutching Colt’s hand in support. "I wish that I had a boat. One big enough to safely carry every survivor plus whoever we manage to find. I want it safe, able to keep together until we no longer need it."

As soon as the last word was out of her mouth, there was a snap, and the building itself seemed to shudder as Sadie’s wish was granted.

"Oh, my Devil," I whispered, poking Chang Xuefeng before pointing at the window behind everyone. On the other side of the glass was nothing more than black planks of wood, one stacked on top of the other. The entire thing rose and fell with the water around it, but the boat, ship, whatever it was, was so big that we couldn’t even see more than just a few feet of the side.

Salvatore let out a low whistle as the sound of a crash came from outside. Suddenly, one of Sadie’s windows was shattered, and what looked like a gangplank from a pirate ship appeared. It was maybe about two feet wide, and it moved with every rocking motion of the boat.

"You’ve gotta be shittin’ me," grunted Colt, blinking rapidly as he approached the broken window. Putting one foot on the plank, he pulled himself out of the room and looked around. "It’s a fucking pirate ship."

"You’re welcome?" I said, cocking my head to the side as I looked between him and Sadie. "In my defense, you didn’t say that it couldn’t be a pirate ship. At least you know that it will be safe and not break until all the water goes away?"

I said the last bit like a question because Colt was coming back into the room, swearing up a storm. "It’s flying the fucking Jolly Roger!" huffed Colt, his eyes narrowing on me like it was my fault.

Look, I didn’t make the rules; if Sadie wanted something specific, then she should have given me the details. If not, the magic just kind of does what it wants. "If it’s that big of a deal, you can always wish for a different flag," I sighed, resting my head against Chang Xuefeng’s.

The building seemed to have shifted slightly, not enough to knock us off our feet, but enough for us to feel it.

"Stop it," hissed Sadie, her eyes flashing at Colt before turning back to me. "Thank you. Let’s get everyone in here and onto the boat before the building gives out."

Colt let out a low grunt before narrowing his eyes at me and storming past. "Ignore him," smiled Sadie. However the smile had more than a hint of sadness to it. "Thank you for the boat. Thank you for saving us."

"You don’t need to thank me for that," I assured her. If it was up to me, I’d be playing survival of the fittest right now and letting the humans die. It was her kindness that saved everyone. Then again, it was also her kindness that drew me to her.

Not saying anything, Sadie simply nodded her head before walking over to the gangplank. Like Colt, she placed one foot on the boards and pulled herself out of the building. Disappearing from sight, I took the chance to look at Luca.

"I’m bringing all of her stuff with us," I told him, not willing to argue over it. This felt like home, and everyone deserved one. I’ll give it back to her once she finds a place to call her own but until then...

With a snap of my fingers, everything in the apartment disappeared into my space.

Even I knew that kindness should be rewarded every so often.
