Chapter 336: Do Her Justice
Chapter 336: Do Her Justice
Eric couldn’t help but chuckle as he opened the door to the main tower. New Dawn Sanctuary was definitely giving Babylon-esque vibes, without the joys of the hanging garden. Moving to the side, he let ten hounds out of the building before shaking his head.
It had been millennia since he had had this much fun. In fact, now that he had thought about it more, he couldn’t actually remember the last time he was enjoying life so much. And he knew exactly who he needed to thank for that.
Heading straight to the elevator, he ducked his head as a group of ten men and women rushed across the lobby. They smelled like fear, and Eric couldn’t help but breathe it in. It was one of his favorite scents, after all.
Finding everything to be exactly as he expected it to be, he couldn’t help but curse his father in his mind. It had been years; couldn’t the man build a different style building? Everything was the exact same as if the blueprint had never once changed.
It honestly took him longer than he expected to get to where he wanted to go. He kept getting delayed by mutated creatures, giant spiders, and a six-headed zombie before reaching the hidden room.
Looking more like a closet door, Eric couldn’t help but roll his eyes and let out a soft sound of disapproval. The entire world could burn in hellfire, and this room would still stand. Fixing the crooked ’closet’ sign, he turned the handle and let himself in.
"I forgive you," he heard a man mutter. Eric ignored the rest of the world, focusing on what was going on in the first room. The monitor had been turned off, but Eric would put his entire mountain of gold on just what the old man was watching.
Pressing a single key, the entire station lit up.
"Still chasing unattainable dreams?" he called out. God only knew what would happen in that other room if he didn’t interrupt right now.
The soft sound of skin brushing against glass could be heard even as Eric stared at the monitor, his entire body focused on the image of a woman. His woman.
"Eric," grunted Adam as he emerged from the backroom. "It’s been a while. Why are you here?"
"A while," nodded Eric, his eyes never leaving the screen. Walking up behind him, Adam couldn’t hold back the soft growl that was threatening to emerge at the sight of another male touching what was his. "An interesting way to say millennia. But what’s a few years amongst family?"
"I haven’t seen you since you killed your brother," shrugged Adam. Neither man was paying attention to the actual conversation. Instead, they watched a young girl playing with monsters with a bright smile on her face.
"Shit happened," replied Eric with an exact replica of Adam’s shrug. As much as the father and son couldn’t stand each other, they were mirror images of each other. Much to their disgust. "But I had some time to kill, so I figured I would come see what all the hype was about."
Adam chuckled as the girl skipped through puddles of blood and flesh, her hair swinging back and forth with every step she took. "Still a mama’s boy, I see," he nodded. "I guess somethings never changed. Are you going to threaten me? Tell me that if I so much as look at her again, you will kill me? When Sophocles wrote about Oedipus, he based the story on you, you know that, right?"
Eric froze for a second before humming in agreement. "That tale was over exaggerated. Every child has a favorite parent. Most don’t try to kill their father in order not to share their mother’s attention."
"You survived, didn’t you?" sneered Eric, his face, like his father’s, unconsciously softening as they watched a hellhound licking blood from the girl’s fingers.
"Kind of hard to kill a god," smirked Adam.
"Still so full of yourself. Since when did a god ever have to be created by something else?"
"You don’t have to be born a god to be worshiped," Adam replied. The second the girl left the building with nine men trailing after her, the soft look on his face disappeared, and he gave his son his full attention. "What do you want, Cain?"
"Like I said, I wanted to see what the big fuss was about? After all, you have been panting after a single creature since the beginning of time. All while fucking someone else," replied Eric as he took a seat in the only chair in the room.
Adam refused to react. Crossing his legs in front of him, he rested his hip against the table and watched Cain. His son was not someone who could be underestimated. His temper was held together by hopes, prayers, and a frayed string.
In the past, it never bothered Adam. He was his father, and that position demanded respect. But with Lucifer so close that the two of them could reach out and touch her, Adam couldn’t risk Cain snapping.
"You saw her; you can leave now," dismissed Adam. "I’ll plan another family reunion 10,000 years from now. I’ll be sure to send you an invite."
"You’re right, I did see her. And it was completely unexpected. In fact, I didn’t know who she was when I approached her. Something about her drew me in, like a fish on the line."
Adam forced his breathing to stay steady. Like him, Cain could see each micro expression, and he didn’t want to give his son any more ammo.
"It wasn’t until later that I saw her real face. She invited me in, let me sleep in her bed. I touched her." Eric’s words were soft, the sound barely traveling across the distance between the two men. But he didn’t have to be loud for Adam to hear.
"Your version? It doesn’t do her justice."
"As much as I hate repeating myself, I will do it just this once; what do you want?"
