Chapter 335: Meant To Be
"I don’ get it," muttered Désiré as he slowly made his way back to us. Every last living person in the hallway was staring at the spider who had just ripped Jonas’ head off. "Don’ girls hate spiders? Shouldn’t she be de one screamin’ and runnin’ away?"
"I think you forget who she is," sighed Dante. "She created demons, after all. Do you really think she is going to stress over a simple spider?"
"Simple spider?" grunted Dimitri. "Yous no gonna kill dat with a flipflop, dat’s fer sure."
Ever so slowly, Luca turned away from the bloody scene in front of us and looked at me. "We are going to have to find space for the Hellhounds," he kindly reminded me, taking my hand in his. "How about we leave the spider here, and once we have the hounds settled, we can come back for it. I think Tink also wanted company, so maybe we should look at getting another gator before the spider. We don’t want Tink to feel left out, do we?"
Narrowing my eyes, I stepped closer to Luca, resting my head against his chest. "Fine," I grumbled, knowing that he was right. Besides, I had cleaned up too many spiderwebs and killed too many spiders in my life. Who knew if the creature would take revenge on me for killing his cousins.
"That’s a good girl," nodded Luca, even as he gently stroked my head. "We still have a lot of levels to go through to get back to the surface. Maybe you’ll find something there to take back with you. Maybe something smaller?"
"And with less legs," grunted Désiré.
Realizing that they were right, I just didn’t like their tones; I nodded my head and started to walk toward the elevators. "I don’t think we are going to all fit," I muttered after a second. Turning around, I saw the arm of hounds following behind the guys silently.
Narrowing my eyes, I opened a random door and pointed inside. "Come on," I announced, taking a quick peak and seeing the house on the other side. "Get in, and don’t make a mess."
Understanding my words, the hounds raced through the door, one after another, like a flood of shadows. There was still a smaller second of the pack that seemed to have disappeared somewhere in the building, but I was sure that I could find them.
How hard could it really be to find ten hellhounds?

Looking through the monitors at the lowest lab, Adam couldn’t help but adjust himself in his chair. His eye never left the enchanting creature from the moment she recreated the throne of Hell to the moment she gave birth to an entirely new creature.
He scoffed at the men around her, trying to gain her favor, touching her in all the small ways, thinking that they were being subtle.
But Adam saw each touch, each caress, and it made him sick.
They were dirtying the creature, bringing her down to their baser level, corrupting her.
How could he not know who she was? How could she not know who he was? Did she really think that he had forgotten about her? That was impossible.
He was the original sin, the one created just for her. Not another taken from his rib, but rather... hers.
A knock on his door pulled him from his thoughts, stopping him from spiraling faster and faster into the madness. Pulling everything back inside of himself, he straightened in his chair and casually turned off the monitor.
"What?" he called out, his voice devoid of emotion. "I told you to never bother me when I was here."
The knocking on the door quickly stopped, but no one entered at the sound of his voice. "Something is going on outside," called out Eve, her voice soft with a hint of worry. "I can hear screaming."
"I have it under control," sneered Adam, cracking his neck from side to side as he fought back the need to strangle the woman on the other side. "Just go to bed."
There was a stretch of silence, but Adam wasn’t dumb enough to think that she had left. They had been put together without his approval or his desire since she had been created to stand at his side.
They had kids and grandkids and spent every day together since time itself started.
Adam knew her better than she knew him. There was no way she would leave that easily.
"I’m worried," Eve said at last, her bright voice now nothing more than a sigh. "I’m scared."
And that was the crux of it all. Eve had lived just as long as he had, had gone through everything he had, and still couldn’t seem to stand on her own two feet when it was just the two of them.
"Then go to bed. Everything will be over when you wake up," said Adam, forcing himself to keep the monitor off. If Eve had been made for him... then he had been made for her.
And this was the first time in 11,000 years that they had been this close together. Why couldn’t he have just a few more moments with her? Even if she never saw him? Even if she hated him?
He just wanted to be with her.
"Okay," agreed Eve, and this time, Adam let out a sigh of relief. Now, she was gone.
Standing up from his chair, he walked over to the only other door in his office. Pulling a key from around his neck, he placed it into the lock and opened the door.
"I’ve finally found you," he whispered into the dark room. But it wasn’t completely dark. In the middle, standing upright, was a tube filled with liquid like something from a sci-fi movie. Inside, in suspended animation, was a naked girl, her long blonde hair drifting in the liquid.
Walking up to the glass, Adam placed his hand against the cold surface. "You just need to give me a bit more time," he begged, his voice breaking even as he pressed his forehead against the glass. If he could have, he would have jumped into the tube with her and wrapped his entire body around hers.
"I just have to get back all the shards of your soul, and then we can finally be together. Why did you do such a silly think like give it to the other Sins? I could have been your one and only. But it’s fine. I forgive you. Soon, it will be just you and me like it was always meant to be."
