Chapter 223: That Means...

"I was bored one day," started Wrath as he looked at Pride. None of the others mattered right now, it was Pride that he had to make see reason. "So I decided to go into the deepest circle of Hell, just to see what it was all about."

"We aren’t supposed to be able to do that," pointed out Envy as he cocked his head to the side. "Every other circle of Hell is open to us, but that one."

Wrath nodded his head in agreement. "Just imagine how surprised I was when I realized that I could easily walk through the fires," he agreed. Hell, he honestly didn’t think he would have been admitted. Everyone else spoke of some type of forcefield that reserved the tenth circle for the Devil. He expected to be shot back out to another circle, but even if that happened, at least he could have said that he had tried.

"I was walking down a path, surrounded by fire on either side and suddenly there was a woman in front of me. She was wearing a bright red dress, and her blonde hair, so bright it was almost silver, hung loose around her. She told me that her name was Luci and that I was hers. She didn’t say anything else; she just said that we all belonged to her, and it was about time we took our place in her house."

"Well," started Lust, the usual smile on his face completely gone. "I would admit that that was not the best introduction. Did Luci say anything else?"

"Nope," replied Wrath with a shake of his head. "Just that I had to go and get the rest of you. I told her to go fuck herself that we didn’t want her, and she got pissed. She said that the second I left the circle, I had to get you six, or else we would all be punished. She said that since she created us, she could easily create a whole new set of Sins that weren’t so defective."

"That is not the story she told Hattie," murmured Pride. He wasn’t 100% sold on Wrath’s side of the story, but he was also willing to admit that it wasn’t overly farfetched. After all, there was nothing to say that Luci was being completely truthful to Hattie, either.

"I am sure it’s not. Anything to make us look like the bad guys, right? I mean, what better way to ensure that Hattie rejects us without knowing the full truth," sighed Greed as he cracked his neck from side to side.

"Which she did," nodded Pride. "She wanted nothing to do with us after she met Luci. It wasn’t until I ripped out my crystal shard and gave it to her that she finally accepted me."

"And it didn’t kill you?" asked Chang Xuefeng, impressed.

"No, if anything, it’s made me stronger," grunted Pride. "The second my shard merged with the one in Hattie’s chest, it was like I had access to an untapped well of power, just waiting for me to call on it."

"Huh," murmured Gluttony as he turned his attention back to Wrath. "So, you told her to fuck off, and so no one else got in trouble, you fucked off for 11,000 years?"

"Give or take a year," shrugged Wrath. It wasn’t easy being on Earth by himself for that length of time. It was like a thorn in his side. Every time he wanted to see his brothers, he was forced to stop just in case Luci followed through on her threat.

"So, you all have a piece of Luci’s heart, right?" asked Tank, his eyes trailing over the Sins.

"Yup," nodded Pride.

"And Luci said that Hattie is her reincarnation," pressed Tank.

"Hattie is no one replacement," snarled Wrath, his eyes flashing red for a moment before he forced himself to get under control. "She..."

Tank held up his hand and leaned back against the house as he thought everything through. "I agree," he said at last. "When Luci held 1/8th of the crystal, none of you felt any draw toward her, right? I mean, you didn’t go to the tenth circle because something was calling you there, right?"

"Right," grunted Wrath, his eyes narrowing as he wondered where Tank was going with this.

"But, when Hattie was no more than a toddler, you already felt her presence in a completely different realm and were already drawn to her... right?" continued Tank as he met the eyes of every Sin.

When Greed and Pride nodded their heads, thinking about the draw they had to a child who wasn’t any taller than an adult’s knee, there was no other explanation for it. Why that child, out of all the billions of people on Earth, why her?

"Okay... here me out," smiled Tank; however, his eyes didn’t show any amusement. "What happens if the shard in Luci’s heart wasn’t really her own?"

"What do you mean?" demanded Pride, his eye flashing black as he looked at the Hellhound.

"What happens if Luci took a crystal with her when she was cast out of wherever she was and then placed it inside of her? If she wanted to create her own people..."

"And since she wasn’t supposed to have it..." mused Greed as he followed Tank’s train of thought.

"She made a deal," grunted Wrath, the rage on his face easy to see as he started walking over the footbridge that separated him from his brothers. "We had to fall in love with her in a certain amount of time..."

"And if we didn’t, then the original shard, that never belonged to her in the first place..." breathed Lust, his eyes going wide as he looked back at the house.

"Found the person it was supposed to," nodded Tank. "Luci didn’t create us; she didn’t create Hell, or the demons, or anything else."

"She is literally a shadow of Hattie. That is why we didn’t feel the pull to her but felt it with Hattie," hissed Sloth, his eyes wide as he, too, looked at the house.

"Which means that Hattie is not a reincarnation. She is the Devil and has been living on Earth since the beginning of time, waiting for us to come and save her," smirked Tank. "Now, doesn’t that put a different point of view on everything?"
