Chapter 222: On Your Knees Or On Your Back?

"Look," started Wrath as he started at Pride in front of him. They were standing on either end of the bridge over the moat, and neither one was moving forward. "I don’t know what Lucifer told you, but you have to understand that he is the Father of Lies. You can’t trust anything out of his mouth."

"Lucifer is a woman, and you damn well know that," snapped Pride, even as the Sins around him shared an uneasy look. Everyone knew that the Devil was a man; there had never been a question since the beginning of time as to who he was.

"He showed you the feminine version, too?" sneered Wrath as he cracked his neck from side to side. There was nothing he wanted to do more than to shift, but at the same time, that was a form that greatly embarrassed him. He would never shift unless it were a matter of life and death.

And no matter how pissed off Pride was, he didn’t want his brother’s death.

"You fucking asshole!" screamed Pride so loud that the earth shook once again. "There is no Father. The Devil is a woman... our woman! Who cut her soul into eight pieces because she wanted love so badly. And what did you do? You spat in her face, rejected her love, and took off like a fucking prick."

The more Pride continued to rant, the more the Sins around him realized just what was going on... even if they didn’t understand it.

"The Devil is our creator," murmured Envy, tasting the words as if it was the first time he ever spoke them before. "But we never asked why we were created."

"The Devil was betrayed," announced Hattie as she stepped through the shield surrounding the house. "And was cast out simply because someone didn’t want to admit that they had done something wrong."

"You should be sleeping, Sweetness," murmured Pride softly as he dropped to one knee. "You are tired. I will handle this; go back to Tank."

"If you can get her back in bed, then you are better than me," sighed Tank as he leaned against the door frame. "And while we couldn’t hear anything, she is connected to you, remember? She can feel exactly what you are feeling, and that made her stressed."

"I’m sorry," sighed Pride. "I snapped when I saw him."

"Saw who?" asked Hattie, pulling out a lollypop and Teddy. Leaning against the demon, she looked at the men for the first time. "Luca!" she gasped as Greed came up beside her. "Dimitri!" she practically screamed as she raced forward. "Dimitri!"

"I’m sorry, Mon ange," said Pride, regretfully as he pulled her away from the man across the bridge and into his arms. "While the body is Dimitri, the one inside is Wrath."

That caused Hattie to completely freeze as she looked up at him. "Wrath? As in the Wrath that broke Luci’s heart? That Wrath?"

"The one and only, I’m afraid," nodded Pride as he gently sent her down beside Tank. "Now, he and I have a few things to discuss, and then... we’ll see where we go from here."

The look on Hattie’s face was no longer quite so happy or innocent as she studied Dimitri. "There are only two possible ways," she shrugged after a moment. "On his knees or on his back."

"I’ll be more than happy to be on my back for you," purred Lust. However, Hattie ignored him.

"He will either understand where he went wrong, or he will die. It’s that simple. Let me know what he chooses; I won’t want to be around him right now."

"Of course, Sweetness," murmured Pride as Tank kissed her forehead. "He will either come to you on his knees or on his back."

"You know he can’t actually die, right?" murmured Greed as he walked over to where Hattie was. "At most, he will just return to Hell for a while until he can find a new meat sack."

Hattie shook her head and chuckled softly. The look on her face was one that Pride had never seen before and had no idea how to describe. It was soft, like she was being gentle, but there was also a hardness to her eyes that spoke of pain and retribution.

"I don’t think you all understand what has happened," she stated, her eyes going over to Wrath. "There is no Hell. The realm was destroyed when the demons ripped Luci’s heart out and ate it. She was the realm... and without her... poof."

The Sins shared a look of concern, and even Tank and Chang Xuefeng were uneasy.

"Pudding Pop?" ventured Gluttony, inching closer to the scary woman. "I don’t understand."

"The demon seeds you all saw falling from the sky?" purred Hattie, the smile on her face almost frightening. "That was all the demons trying to save themselves as Hell literally ate itself. It brings new meaning to Hell on Earth, doesn’t it?"

"The house..." breathed Chang Xuefeng, his eyes going wide as he finally figured out the missing piece.

"Is a realm all to itself," chuckled Hattie as she stroked the door frame. "It can go anywhere, be anything, do anything as long as I will it to be. This is my new home, and I am only going to share it with those I want. Luci was too soft when it came to her creations. I, on the other hand, don’t have any creations outside this house. If I want demons to die, then they have no choice but to die. It’s really as simple as that."

Brushing past Tank, Hattie entered the house, only for it to slam the door, pushing Tank outside with the others.

"So," he muttered, looking over his shoulder at where the door should have been. "Camping seems fun."

"Not quite yet," reminded Pride as he turned his attention back to Wrath. "We still have to figure out if Wrath will be on his knees or on his back."

Wrath let out a long sigh as he stared at the eight creatures in front of him. While they might all have human bodies, only a fool would mistake them for anything but what they were.

Deadly creatures who now had a new target.

"Let me explain," sighed Wrath as he held up his hand in surrender. "And then I’ll be on my knees. But it won’t be just me."

"No," agreed Pride with a nod. "It won’t be."
