Chapter 221: Feel Free To Keep Going

The moment Chang Xuefeng put down his knife and fork for the last time, the plate in front of him disappeared.

"Have we just decided not to talk about the sentient house?" he mused as he patted his mouth with his napkin before putting it on the table. "Because this is the first time I have ever come across one, and I..." his voice trailed off as if he didn’t know where he was trying to go with that sentence.

Never, in any of the realms, no matter how much magic was involved, has there ever been an inanimate object that was able to think, create things from thin air, and shift depending on the whim of another. Hell, there weren’t even whispers of it happening.

"Let’s just chalk this up to it being part of Hattie and leave it at that," replied Pride as he waved his hand in the air. "That woman has been able to do things since the beginning that defy logic, including a brand new sanctuary complete with a keeper. Accept what is right in front of your face, and then move on. No one can explain magic, and that is exactly what Hattie is."

Gluttony was about to open his mouth, only to be cut off by the sound of someone knocking on the front door. "We have a door again?" he muttered instead, cocking his head to the side. "Huh."

The knocking continued, becoming more and more insistent the longer it was ignored.

"Someone needs to answer that before the house bothers Hattie," pointed out Chang Xuefeng, only for the very walls to scoff at that statement.

"No," nodded Pride as he studied the wall across from him. "The house wants Hattie to sleep. It will keep everyone out until morning before it will wake her up."

There was a feeling of contentment in the room as if the walls itself were trying to tell the three men something.

"Well, let’s open the door," sighed Gluttony, coming to his feet. "Even if it isn’t annoying my Pudding Pop, it’s annoying me."

Pride grunted, and Chang Xuefeng simply rose to his feet as the two men followed Gluttony to the door.

"Can we help you?" asked Gluttony as the door opened. He didn’t bother to look at the people outside, so it took him a moment to realize just who was there. "Greed?" he gasped, his eyes going wide as he finally found his brother.

Well, more like his brothers had finally found them, but either way, it was their fault for being so damn late.

Pride, upon hearing who was on the other side of the door, pushed Gluttony to the side. "Greed," he grunted, studying the five men in front of him. "Where’s Wrath?"

The tallest man stepped forward, his muscles flexing with every move he made, and his face was completely impassive. "Hello, Pride," grunted Wrath, studying the other man. "It’s been a while."

Pride nodded his head and slipped out of the house as he approached his bother. "You are right," he sighed, a bright smile on his face. "It’s been just short 11,000 years, hasn’t it? You just up and disappeared on us, leaving us alone to deal with everything else."

"I had to leave," sighed Wrath as he rolled his eyes. None of the others questioned his decision; it was only Pride who had his nose bent out of shape.

Since Wrath was rolling his eyes, he missed Pride’s windup and punch as he went sailing back over the bridge. Landing with a splash in the moat, Wrath shook his head, his jaw aching. Fuck. Since when could Pride hit that hard?

The other brothers seemed to be just as stunned as Wrath was since Pride was not one to throw the first punch.

"Ugh," murmured Gluttony, cocking his head to the side as he went on his tiptoes to see where Wrath was. "Do I want to know what that was about? Cause I thought we were happy to be all back together."

His gaze shifted over to Greed, who simply shrugged his shoulders. The Sin had no idea what was going on, but if it was enough to set Pride off, then it wasn’t something he wanted to get in the middle of.

Besides, Wrath could take it. The fucker got off on violence, even if it was done to him.

"You fucking asshole," snarled Pride as he rolled up the sleeves of his button-down shirt. His image shifted back and forth between Dante and the demon until only the demon was left. "Where the fuck do you get off keeping fucking secrets like that when it involves all of us. That’s why you left, wasn’t it? Cause you didn’t have the fucking balls to tell us what happened."

"Is anyone else feeling a bit left out?" murmured Envy as he looked at Sloth and Lust.

"You don’t know what you are talking about," sneered Wrath as he stood up. Shaking off the water, he climbed out of the moat and stared down Pride. "And since when do you let yourself look like that?"

"When I find our fucking creator," snapped Pride, stepping forward as his wings shot out and his tail whipped back and forth in agitation. "And she tells me everything."

"You met her?" demanded Wrath as the rest of the Sins shared another uneasy look. "What did she tell you?"

"Enough to know that you caused us to wait 11,000 years before we met our other half! How could you! Do you have any idea what life would have been like if you had just come back to us and said that you found her?!? She made us! Who are you to shoot her down like that!"

Pride was so pissed off that the ground around him started to shake. Chang Xuefeng, having more than enough of the pissing contest, stepped out on the deck and closed the door behind him. "Either shut up or find another place for this shit show. You are going to wake up Hattie if you keep this up."

A shimmering shield rose from behind Chang Xuefeng and suddenly, the house was enclosed in a soundproof barrier. "You are definitely handy," sighed the Angel of Death. "Thank you for looking after her."

The house gently shuddered, happy to be thanked before everyone turned their attention back to the fight between Pride and Wrath.

"Well," smiled Chang Xuefeng. "Now that you won’t wake up my woman, feel free to keep going."
