Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse
Chapter 218: Just A Little Girl…

Chapter 218: Just A Little Girl...

The feeling of pure evil penetrated the walls of the Navy base where Adam and Eve were discussing the next step with Réne and Alicia.

Eve’s voice cut off in mid-sentence as Adam jumped to his feet, his gun in hand as he looked around the room.

"What was that?" demanded Alicia, coming to her feet.

"That was..." started Eve just as there was a knock on the door.

"General Lapierre," murmured the man at the door. "We have about a hundred and fifty people at the gate, wanting to come in." The man looked unsure, and there was a good reason for it.

The base just wasn’t big enough, nor did it have enough supplies to actually be able to support all the people living inside. To make matters worse, every time there was a new group of survivors at the door, the fight for the limited resources became even more intense.

Infighting was at an all-time high, with at least five or six bodies a night dying as a result. However, that didn’t change the fact that Réne and Alicia were already scraping the bottom of the barrel to give everyone what little food they had.

In fact, the guard didn’t want to be here at all. He would much rather have wasted the 150 bullets than give them the food and meager supplies that the general was going to insist on.

"You know the rules state that everyone is allowed inside. All they have to do is prove they haven’t been bitten by a zombie, and they get free reign," answered Alicia for Réne. "So why are you interrupting this meeting?"

"One of the men, Bishop, says that he has some information that you might be interested in. A way to get more supplies and acquire a new base that is only about 55 miles from here," replied the guard, making sure that there was no expression on his face.

Yeah, his leaders were going to be nominated for Sainthood at the end of this thing, but while they wanted to save everyone, they really didn’t want to listen to opinions or comments other than their own.

"I can go check it out," announced Max, pushing himself up from the wall. "I’ll be right back."

----

Bishop looked up at the Navy base in front of him. There were regular patrols, and the guards at the gate had the latest weapons, but they looked to be on the thin side. Coupled with the dark circles under their eyes, and he was beginning to wonder just what kind of place he was bringing his family into.

Oh well, that didn’t really matter. All he needed was people trained to fight, and they could easily take back the Dragon’s Lair. The evil presence he had felt just a few seconds ago was already forgotten in the need to make sure that his family was taken care of.

"You Bishop?" asked a man as he strolled forward toward the gate. The guard, who had originally greeted him, was trailing behind, an unreadable expression on his face.

"I am," smiled Bishop, holding out his hand. "Mathis Duhon, but my friends call me Bishop. This is my wife, Sophia, and our daughter, Libby." It didn’t matter to him if they weren’t really married; they had done everything a husband and wife had done, so there was no point in sugarcoating their relationship.

"Come on inside," smiled Max, taking Bishop’s hand in a firm grip. "We can always use more people. In times like this, all we have is each other... we can’t ever forget that."

"You are absolutely right," agreed Bishop. "And, at the end of the day, that was why we left our old home. I just didn’t feel right about following the orders of a little girl who was too selfish to think of others."

"A little girl?" asked Max, confused as Bishop and his family slipped under the gate as it rose up. "What about her parents? Surely, they could have helped her make better choices."

"As far as I know, she doesn’t have parents. Instead, she is surrounded by men with unclean thoughts who would agree to anything she said," shrugged Bishop, planting the seeds in Max’s head.

They didn’t need to know just who they were dealing with. A bullet in the right place would just as easily kill Hattie as anyone else. And something told Bishop that this was the place to go for that.

"That is a sin," grunted Max as one of the female guards quickly looked over Sophia and Libby. It wasn’t anything indepth, more just checking to see if they had blood anywhere. When they were determined to be safe, Max led them to the main building.

"You said that there was a place with supplies?" pressed Max. "What group has them?"

"I can’t really call it a group," sighed Bishop as they walked into an empty conference room. "It is just the little girl I told you about and four men. That’s it."

"And just how many supplies are you talking about?"

"Enough to feed just over 500 people for two years," Bishop replied as Libby climbed on his lap and promptly fell asleep. "And that isn’t including the building itself. There are over 300 different apartments, each one supplied with everything that a family could use for a year."

"How confident are you? I mean, you had 150 survivors, surely, if this place is how you described, you would be able to take it over without much effort," stated Max, raising his eyebrow.

While he might not be a Sin anymore, it didn’t mean that he was a pushover either. When something seemed too good to be true, it normally meant that it was.

"The girl is a Spirit user," interjected Sophia, looking up at Bishop to see if she was able to answer or not. When he nodded at her, she continued. "And she is really powerful. We didn’t even know what was going on and what we were doing until she slipped up. Truly, for someone so young, she is extremely powerful. If we want to win, we need to take her by surprise with large enough numbers that she can’t overwhelm all of us."
