Chapter 195: No Hattie
Okay, so a part of my brain told me that I had only been the Devil for less than 24 hours since Luci had her heart ripped out, but the majority of my brain told me that that wasn’t that big of a deal.
I had all the power I could possibly want at my fingertips, and even Luci said that I just had to think about what I wanted, and I would get it.
Being alone in the middle of a middle-class community somewhere in Region L was not where I wanted to be. The fact that Tink and the rest of the guys were clearly not around me made me even more cranky.
The fact that I don’t know if they even went to the Dragon’s Lair or were somewhere in the world for me never to see again caused me to damn well panic.
While I was struggling with what I was doing here, the white door in front of me opened. "Hello, Sweetheart, are you lost?"
The woman was dressed in a style from the 1950s, complete with the hairstyle, dress, and apron. She stood on the top step, her bright red lips warm and welcoming, but I had no idea what to say.
So, instead of answering her, I decided to stare at her house. It was a two-story home, built in the same era that she so seemed to love, with a small garden bed in front, luscious grass, a massive tree, and, to top everything off, a white picket fence.
If my warning bells weren’t screaming at me before, they now were.
Added to the creepy factor that would send most people running, I couldn’t help but notice the fact that there was no one around. Not a person, not a dumb zombie... nothing.
It was like she and I were the last two people in this entire world.
And that put a bright smile on my face.
"I think so," I replied, putting on my best innocent face as I dug the tip of my toe into the ground. Just because the guys weren’t here didn’t mean that I couldn’t have a bit of fun. I would try to find them later...
"Oh, precious," murmured the woman as she came down the two steps and approached me. That was the first time that I noticed the white walkway matching everything else and making the emerald grass pop even more.
I really wanted to know her secret... but there was enough time for that.
"You don’t have to worry anymore," she continued, opening a latch on the gate in front of me. Was there always a gate there? Why did it seem like everything was flickering with each step that she took?
For a second, I could have sworn that the house was a dirty brown color with missing windows and shutters that were falling off. The grass was nothing but overgrown weeds the height of my waist while the tree looked like it was rotting from the inside out.
This place was absolutely perfect!
"Thank you," I whimpered, looking down at my toes as the woman stayed on her side of the fence, her hand stretched toward me. "Will you be my new Mommy?"
The woman in front of me didn’t even stop for a second to think about it before she smiled gently again, "Of course, Sweetling, I would love to be your Mommy."
The moment I took her hand, her body seemed to flicker into an almost demon-like appearance. It kept her brown curls and that weird 1950s hairstyle, but its teeth elongated into sharp points so big that its mouth couldn’t contain them.
The demon itself was completely naked, its sagging boobs looking more like empty bags than the perfect ones in the dress that my mind was supposed to see. Then, there was the royal purple skin tone that told me everything I needed to know.
As the Father of Lies... I could easily see through the lies in others. Ooh.... This was going to be so much fun!
"You know, I was just wishing for a sweet little girl like you to come into my home. And then, poof... here you are! I am so lucky," continued the woman as she pulled me past the gate and into her lair.
"Oh no," I chuckled, looking up at the demon who was staring down at me. "You aren’t the lucky one, I am."

"Where the fuck did she go?!?" demanded Tank as he spun around in a small circle, trying to find his little Lamb. With how easily she kept disappearing, he was going to have to put a leash on her so that she could never leave him again! This was bullshit!
"I don’t know!" replied Chang Xuefeng as he arched back just in time to miss being bitten by Tink. Somehow, in the blink of an eye between leaving the CDC building and ending up here, Hattie disappeared, and he now had a very pissed-off alligator in his arms.
"I can’t feel her," snarled Pride as his eyes flashed. Looking over at Gluttony, he wordlessly asked a question.
"Nothing here, either," sighed Gluttony as he tried to stretch out his powers even more. He felt everyone and everything that even had the slightest taint of gluttony, but his little Pudding Pop was nowhere to be found.
As carefully as he could, Chang Xuefeng placed Tink on the ground and then jumped out of the way before he could get smacked by the pissed-off gator’s tail. Tink was definitely not in a good mood either, with Hattie gone.
"At least tell me that someone knows where we are," sighed Chang Xuefeng, trying to get things under control again.
"The Dragon’s Lair," grunted Dante, pointing to a tall building off in the distance.
"Okay," sighed Chang Xuefeng. "So, we have that going for us. And Hattie knows where it is, so when she can, I am sure that she is going to pop up here, too."
"And just how confident are you?" asked Beau, raising an eyebrow as he looked at the other man.
"With Hattie? About 2% confident that I am right. The other 98% is telling me that if it can go wrong, it will."
"Thus, no Hattie."
"Thus, no Hattie."
