Chapter 182: What In The Sweet Hell?!?

Chapter 182: What In The Sweet Hell?!?

"You’re acting like you’ve never fucked yourself," chuckled Luci as she came to a stop. We were standing on the walls of a castle, looking over at the sea of demons in front of us. They were all different shapes and sizes; some had wings while others didn’t, but they were all staring at the two of us as if we were the beginning and end of their world.

Then Luci’s words hit.

"Ha, ha," I sneered. I would fully admit to touching myself, wanting to take the power away from Père when it came to my body and what brought it pleasure and pain. It was also the same reason why I had cut myself a few times in the past.

Everything was about control. Which was amusing, considering I was the most out of control person I knew.

Shaking my head, I pointed to the demons. "Why did you create them to look like this?" I asked, thinking back to what Gluttony had said. He thought that the way he looked was a punishment from a vindictive creator, but I knew that Luci wasn’t like it.

Confused, Luci looked at me. "What do you mean? Aren’t they beautiful?" she asked as if she didn’t understand how I couldn’t see it.

"Oh, they really are. I’m just saying that compared to angels and humans, they are completely different," I replied, pointing out the obvious.

"Angels and humans conceal the monsters inside of them with their looks. Everyone only sees what is one the outside and then are disappointed when they learn more about the inside. And let’s face it, you can tell a person’s face, but never their hearts. For the demons, I didn’t want them to have to hide. Yes, they might not be for everyone, but they also don’t have to hide who they are or what they feel."

Grunting in agreement, I had to give it to Luci. How many times did a human hide the evil in their hearts and no one see it?

Not that the demons were evil, but what was on the inside reflected on the outside as that you knew who and what you were dealing with.

"I assume that is why they are all color coordinated?" I chuckled.

Luci hummed as she nodded her head. "Each demon is part of a particular caste. Orange belongs to Gluttony and tends to do things to excess." Pointing out the sea of different shades of oranges off to the side, I saw what she was talking about. "Then there is red for Wrath, black for Pride, green for Greed, purple for Envy, gold for lust, and blue for sloth."

"It kind of looks like the sky during a sunset," I mused before shaking my head. I needed to know what was going to happen next, not worry about the colors of demons. "But as you were saying..."

"The mosquitoes played a role," Luci said, turning away from the demons in front of her and leading me into the castle itself. We entered a throne room with seven thrones, which I could only assume was for the Sins. Walking past the thrones, she snapped her fingers, and the curtain behind them dropped, revealing a black throne made of the skulls and bones of people and demons.

Spinning around, she sat down on it, her back straight as she looked at me. "The mosquitoes carry blood and diseases from victim to victim, and not all the victims are human."

Narrowing my eyes, I thought about what she said. "So, the mosquitoes were spreading the virus to even more humans."

"I knew we were smart," chuckled Luci. "Now, without the mosquitoes, something else is going to push this apocalypse forward."

"And you know what it is going to be?" I asked, cocking my head to the side. I really didn’t like where this was going.

"No," sighed Luci. "And I wish I did, but things don’t work like that. If I could control everything, there wouldn’t have been an apocalypse in the first place. But something is going to happen soon, and it is going to involve creating more zombies."

"Since the mosquitoes are now out of the picture," I nodded. "Rain?"

"Nope, Marcus wished for the rain to stop, so no rain. But whatever it is, it is going to be bloody." The tips of Luci’s fingers tapped on the armrest of her throne... well... the skull at the front of the bones that made up the armrest.

Was it bad to want this throne? I really needed this throne.

"Meh, the humans can die for all I care. When they are gone, I don’t have to worry about anything," I shrugged. Really, a world without humans sounded like heaven to me, so I didn’t know why Luci was so against it.

"No," announced Luci. "Humans have to live; the balance needs to be restored, and there will be countless more millenniums after this has been settled. It is just getting to that point that will be a headache. But it isn’t your headache."

"So why warn me?" I asked, surprised that she did. Then again, I was her... so it would make sense that she was looking out for her best interests.

"Because of your angel," repeated Luci, rolling her eyes. "The Sins and the Hound can withstand anything, even if their human hosts decay in front of them. They can always go back to their original forms... your angel cannot."

"You keep saying that I have an angel... why don’t I know about that?" I chuckled, shaking my head. Walking over to one of the many mirrors decorating the wall, I was surprised to see the Dragon’s Lair in front of me.

"Chang Xuefeng is... both an angel and an other... but he only has his one body. He might be able to shift what he looks like for a short period of time, but I don’t know if he can withstand being turned into a zombie."

"He is technically a Reaver, according to him," I replied, studying Bishop and some woman in his arms as they lay down on the couch in Dante’s office. Did Dante know about that? Was Brittney still alive?

I couldn’t see her face, to be sure. Bishop was doing a great job at covering it with his mouth, but I can’t say that I was impressed.

"What in the sweet Hell is a Reaver?" demanded Luci, pulling my attention away from Bishop.

"A zombie upgrade."
