Chapter 180: They’re Back

There was absolutely nothing that Tank hated more than to be surrounded by people he didn’t know. Standing in the line, waiting to be allowed into the compound where his little Lamb was was bad enough. Add on the men, women, and children pushing and crying, and he was ready to snap.

"Keep it under wraps, Hound, or I’ll put a leash on you," sneered the demon inside of Dante. The fact that his boss was possessed by one of the Sins wasn’t that big of a deal as far as he was concerned, but if Pride thought he was capable of handling Tank, then he had another thing coming.

Hell, even the beast, the Hound inside of him, agreed on that. If the Sin tried anything, the beast would be more than happy to rip him apart and remind him why everyone was terrified of his name.

"Are you sure it is wise to bait the Hound?" asked the man beside them. Chang Xuefeng, or the Angel of Death, depending on what you believed, was just as bad as the Sin. Both thought that they were hot shit and had some sort of prior claim on what was his...

But he really wasn’t about digging a grave or two if it came down to it. Even if one of the graves was Dante’s.

That fucked with his head a bit. Tank was big on loyalty, and in the past few months, he had assumed that he had been making the Dragon Lair safe from traitors on his behalf... as well as the little Lambs...

However, if it came down to Dante or Hattie, there really wasn’t that much of a decision to make.

Did that make him as much of a traitor as the ones he had killed?

Nope.

Poor Dante... Tank prayed that he wouldn’t be dumb enough to press him on the issue, but the Sin didn’t seem to know his place in the grand scheme of things.

Before Pride could reply, they were finally at the front of the gates, staring down the guard. "You," sneered the guard, looking directly at Chang Xuefeng. "You are not welcome here. Fuck off before I call someone to put you out of our misery."

"You can try," shrugged the Angel of Death. "But I am not going anywhere unless I am told by Hattie LaRue."

"Her mother was very clear on the issue. You are not going anywhere near her daughter," replied the guard with a shake of his head. "Are these men with you?"

"Yes," stated Chang Xuefeng at the same time as Tank denied any connection.

"All three of them are with me," rang out a voice from behind the guard. "You will let them in."

The sound of her voice, while different from before, was enough to cause Tank to drop to his knees. Picking up the guard who was standing between him and his Lamb, he flung the guard over his shoulder and vaulted over the gate.

"Little Lamb," sighed Tank, dropping to his knees and wrapping his arms around the waist of the woman who meant more to him than his next breath. "Little Lamb."

"I missed you," replied Hattie, stroking his hair as he buried his face in her stomach.

"I missed you, too," announced Tank, but it was so much more than just those four simple words. How could he explain the need to hunt her down? How could he explain why he wanted to make the Lair a safer place for her, which was why he didn’t follow as soon as he discovered she was missing?

How could he explain that every cell in his body craved her in a way that neither he nor his beast understood?

Hattie simply chuckled as she ignored Dante and Chang Xuefeng, who came into the compound the normal way... through the gate.

"Please don’t leave me again," Tank begged, not caring that his knees and legs were getting soaked from kneeling in the water. Nothing else mattered to him other than the woman in front of him. "I don’t think I can survive it."

The gentle but insistent hands on his cheeks were enough to pull Tank out of her stomach so that he was looking into her bright blue eyes.

Were her eyes always that color? Could she see now?

"You can see?" he demanded, coming to his feet and picking her up in his arms. "You can see me?"

"I can see you," she assured him with a kiss. "And all that is a story for later."

Shifting her attention away from Tank, she raised her eyebrow at Chang Xuefeng. "You know, Daddy, I was starting to think that you had forgotten about me."

Tank froze at the humor in her voice as she spoke to the man behind him. He wasn’t overly happy about it, but at the same time, as long as she was happy, that was all that mattered.

"I really should turn you over my knee and beat your ass until you can’t sit down anymore," snarled Chang Xuefeng, which caused Tank to let out a snarl of his own. If they were going to measure teeth, then his was a lot longer than the angel’s.

Chang Xuefeng spared the Hound a glance before letting his eyes trail over Hattie, taking in all the new bruises and cuts on her face. The outfit was also completely different than her typical style, but it still suited her.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice soft as he plucked her away from the Hound and held her in his own arms. "If anyone has hurt you, I can make sure that they pray for death."

His Wish Girl simply chuckled and placed a kiss on his cheek. "We’ll see," was all that she would commit to. "Let’s go home."

"I’m sorry, Ms. LaRue. But the rules state that they need to spend a week in quarantine... and no one is above that rule," announced one of the female guards with a clipboard in her hands.

"That’s fine," agreed Hattie, wrapping her arms around Chang Xuefeng’s neck. "But this time, I’m not going to be separated from my Daddy. Do you understand?"

"Whatever you think is best, as long as the three newcomers fill out the paperwork and are placed in quarantine for the appropriate amount of time," agreed the woman with a smile. "And I’m glad that he is back."

"You and me both," nodded Hattie with a bright smile on her face.
