Chapter 178: Your Vengeful Creator
The next time I opened my eyes it was to see Gluttony’s concerned face in front of mine as he crouched down beside the couch.
"Hey, Pudding Pop," he chuckled faintly. "It’s about time you woke up. You’ve been asleep for a while now."
I didn’t bother to reply to his statement. Whether I had been asleep for only and few hours or a few weeks, it didn’t change anything. I was a completely different person than who I was when I first closed my eyes. I could feel the ’creature’ deep down inside of me reaching forward, wanting to claim what was hers...
What was mine?
"Show me your face," I said, staring into Beau’s eyes. The body in front of me belonged to Beau Landry, the official doctor of the Legislature Compound. I wanted to see the demon inside of it—the one who belonged to me.
Who was my creation?
"Oh, Pudding Pop," murmured Gluttony, his eyes flashing with pain for a second. "You don’t want to see my face."
I could tell that he was speaking out of concern for me and no small amount of fear that I would reject him when I saw him... but that was bullshit. Did he not know what Wrath had seen when he looked at Luci that ONE time? Did he not consider just how worried Luci would be when Wrath saw her for the first time?
"Show me," I demanded, the sleep gone from my voice. The more I thought about Luci... about what I had gone through as a result of the Sins, the angrier I got. If Wrath had accepted Lucy 10,000 years ago, I wouldn’t have been reborn on Earth. I wouldn’t have had to suffer the abuse, the pain, and the humiliation that I had endured.
What had I done to deserve it? What had Luci done to be rejected like that? It wasn’t fair... and it was all the Sins’ fault.
Well, fuck them.
"Show me your face or fuck off," I stated, sitting up on the couch and staring at the Sin still kneeling in front of me. "And when I say fuck off, I mean for the rest of your life. Show me now, or I will send you back to Hell."
Beau’s face went pale for a moment before Gluttony spoke. "Hattie," he sighed, bringing his palm up to my cheek. "My creator wasn’t nearly as kind as yours was. I am ugly, and there is nothing I can do to change that. I don’t want to scare you, and I don’t want to upset you. It’s one of the reasons why we wear these meat sacks... so we fit in better."
"Your creator wasn’t kind?" I replied, feeling Luci’s soul inside of my body, cringing at his words. And now that I knew everything and where I stood in all this matter, I wasn’t going to let anything hurt Luci. I wasn’t going to let anything hurt me.
"I’m sorry," murmured Gluttony. "But my creator was an evil, vindictive man who, the second he was kicked out of the Garden, wanted to bring pain and misery to everyone around him."
I could feel my heart breaking... and knowing that it wasn’t mine almost made it worse. The woman inside of me waited 50,000 years for the love of her creations and even longer for the love of her creator, and now, her creation had the gull to call her an evil, vindictive man.
Letting out a long breath, I cracked my neck from side to side. "So, you aren’t going to show me," I stated. "Then the only thing you can do is fuck off. I never want to see you again."
"Pudding Pop," sputtered Gluttony, looking around the room as if he were expecting someone to come and save him. "You can’t mean that! I am doing this for your best interests. I am a demon. I don’t look human! It would kill me inside for you to turn your back on me because of how I was created. Please. This is my new face now. If he doesn’t make you happy, then you can find someone else who will. But please, don’t make me leave you. Not now that I can finally be beside you."
I snorted at his statement. He could have been beside me 50,000 years ago. He could have had me in his arms every night and woken up with me every morning. But he chose to ignore the fraction of his soul that was calling out to mine.
He must be punished.
"I told you what needed to happen," I said, coming to my feet. "Either show me your true face or fuck off home. It is very simple, and this is your last chance. What is it going to be, Gluttony?"
I watched as Gluttony rose to his full height and took in a deep breath as if he was bracing for something. "Please don’t hate me," he whispered, his head down as he stared at the floor in front of his feet.
The moment he spoke, it was like a light shimmered over him and the body of Beau disappeared. In his stead was a massive creature, easily nine feet tall, with enormous bat-like wings and a single set of horns growing out of his head.
His muscles grew exponentially, each one completely defined in a way that a human man might only dream of, and his tail swished back and forth, letting me know without words that he was feeling uneasy.
He was so tall that he had to hunch forward, his shoulders curled in, and his wings glued themselves to his back as he tried to be smaller.
However, what surprised me the most was the color and texture of his skin. I didn’t know what to expect when it came to his appearance, but the beautiful sunset orange was definitely not it. Combined with the almost silk-like texture, I couldn’t help but want to reach out and stroke his chest and abs.
He was so beautiful; it hurt to look at him.
"This is your vengeful creator?" I whispered, giving in to my need to touch him. "You are so beautiful it takes my breath away."
