Chapter 176: You Never Told Me Your Name
The woman scoffed at my statement but didn’t bother to deny it either. She seemed content to just remain in the silence while the lack of noise was starting to drive me crazy.
"Why am I here? Can you at least open your mouth and tell me that?" I sighed, taking another sip of the bourbon. Was I old enough to be drinking this shit? Not at all... but come on, who was really going to call me out?
"You are here because you found your way to me," she said, her bright blue eyes turning cold for an instant before they resumed their innocent look.
"Great," I nodded. Now that we had established that... "How do I get home?"
Once again, she let out a sharp breath that was borderline a scoff before she took another sip of coffee. "Try clicking your heels three times and say, ’I want to go home’."
"You’re a bitch, you know that, right?" I blinked at her. "It’s not like I want to be here. I don’t even know who you are. Fuck, I wish one of the guys were here."
"Deal not accepted," she answered, looking over the edge of her cup to smirk at me.
Her words made me freeze as I stared into her eyes. She was the voice inside my head? But I liked that voice, and she liked me... so why did she hate me now?
"What’s your problem with me?" I asked, leaning back in my chair, completely forgetting about my drink. "Cause I am pretty sure that we got along great when I first signed that contract."
"Did you even read it?" she demanded before taking in a deep breath.
"I’m pretty sure that I was blind at the time, so no, I didn’t read it. All I wanted—"
"All you wanted was to give the Sins enough power so that they could go to Earth to keep you company for the rest of your shitty life. Yeah, I got that. I’m the one you signed the contract with," snapped the woman, staring into her coffee, but I could have sworn that I saw tears in her eyes that she kept trying to blink away.
"I think I am missing something here," I said, putting away my normal attitude. There was something seriously wrong going on, and I needed to figure it out. Especially if it had to do with the contract I had signed.
"You are missing a lot of things," she replied. Letting go of her cup with one hand, she covered her hand with her sweater so that she could wipe away the tears in her eyes. "But I guess I can’t blame you."
"But you do," I replied softly, cocking my head to the side. "You blame me."
"What do you think of this place?" asked the woman, and I looked around. It wasn’t my style at all, but I could also see the appeal of it.
"It’s..."
"It’s my prison," she replied, taking a sip of coffee. "I made a deal... and I upheld my end..." She broke off in a sarcastic laugh as she cleared her throat. Letting out a long sigh, she visibly composed herself in front of me.
"Tell me," I said. I had all the time in the world since I had no idea how I was going to get out of my dream, so I might as well listen to what she said.
"There is no point. Telling you will not make a single difference about what comes next," she replied. A coffee table appeared in front of us, and she put her coffee cup down on it.
"Then it won’t hurt to tell me," I shrugged, putting my cup beside hers.
"I have no idea where to start," laughed the woman. Gathering her hair, she spun it up in a bun, only to let it drop when she lowered her hands. "The Sins were supposed to be mine," she announced suddenly, causing me to let out a low growl.
I didn’t share.
And there was no way I could complete with this woman in front of me.
"They were given 50,000 years to fall in love with me, and if they didn’t manage to do that, then they could choose my replacement. I was supposed to stay here, knowing that a part of my soul was connected to them. I couldn’t leave this circle until all seven of them came for me. They were created by me... and I was stupid enough to fall in love with them. But no one can control their creations... and they had ideas of their own."
Okay, out of all the things that I expected her to say, that was definitely not it.
"I’m sorry?" I sputtered, not sure how I was supposed to respond to that.
"Don’t be. They never looked for me, they have no idea who I am, and only Wrath bothered to walk through the fires to meet me. He was always the one who was willing to meet everything head-on. Sloth, on the other hand," dropping her head, she chuckled.
"Yeah," she continued, clearing her throat. "When Wrath saw me, he said that I wasn’t his type and turned around and left. And that was over 10,000 years ago. I will fully admit that I didn’t take that rejection well. If they... anyways. It doesn’t matter. As of 18 years ago, my contract expired, and you were born."
"I don’t think I like where this is going," I muttered, my smile completely disappearing.
"I’m not calling you my replacement," she assured me. "More like a part of me... I just don’t know what part."
"I’m a part of you?" I asked. Picking up my glass of bourbon, I swallowed everything in one gulp.
"Yup," she nodded. "And since all the Sins are chasing after you, I think that makes you the best part. Or maybe I’m part of you... I have no idea how it works. I had a soul, and I gave it up for a chance to be with them. Without my soul, I became feared to the point where love slipped through my fingers. And to answer your question from before... it is better to be loved than feared. Love lasts longer."
It was my turn to snort at that statement. "Hardly. People fall out of love every day."
"And it’s boring when people are so terrified of you that they piss themselves as they run away."
Cocking my head to the side, I studied the woman in front of me.
"You never told me your name..."
