Chapter 167: And if We Don’t?

"Well," started Pride as he looked through the mirror in front of him. "I can’t say that I expected to see you in this particular state."

The man in the mirror still had all the confidence and demeaner of someone worthy of hosting Pride, but he was completely drenched from head to toe. His normally style hair was slicked back as he rested against a wall, and his shirt clung to his muscles in a way that Pride was sure Hattie would appreciate.

As soon as he spoke, the man’s eyes opened as he stared out in front of him.

"I thought you had left," sneered the man. Pride could hear every word he spoke perfectly, but the man in the mirror never once opened his mouth.

"There were... issues to be taken care of," replied Pride with a sneer of his own. It wasn’t up to the human to demand answers from a demon, but at the same time, Pride was willing to accommodate this body.

"And now?"

"Now it’s done," shot back Pride, rolling his eyes. "And now we are ready."

"Oh?" chuckled the man. "You know, I normally don’t do anything on someone else’s timeline. Maybe I should just fuck off for a few months and then come back. How does that sound?"

Pride couldn’t help the smile on his face as he listened to the meat sack’s threat. "You could," agreed Pride. "And during the time you decided to fuck off, I’ll just find someone else to take care of Hattie for you. Would that work for you?"

This time, the man in the mirror didn’t look nearly as laid back as rage took over his features for a brief second. "Try it, and I’ll learn how to kill a demon. I heard salt works wonders."

"Yeah," chuckled Pride as he looked around the room quickly. All five of his brothers were talking to their meat sacks using the mirrors in the throne room. "Salt works wonders for seasoning food. Are you really going to come pre-seasoned for me?"

There was no reply from the human, but when Pride saw Greed nodding his head and Envy’s slow smile, he wasn’t willing to fuck around anymore.

"It’s time," he announced, smiling when he saw his meat sack standing upright, no longer leaning against the wall behind him. "Let me in."

"Fucking finally," snarled Dante, his eyes flashing in satisfaction. "Then you can help me deal with Tank. The man is like a dog with a bone right now, I swear."

-----

In this lifetime, Dante never had time to watch television, but in his previous lifetime, there was nothing he enjoyed more than watching supernatural dramas with Brittney.

He had assumed that to be possessed by a demon would involve an intense ritual of some kind or other. A pentagram done in paint or chalk on a wooden floor. Candles of different colors, an old book, and a sacrifice of some kind or other. That was what they had shown him on TV, but what happened was nothing like that.

One moment, he was talking to Pride, and the next instant, it was like he was sharing headspace with another being altogether.

"Is it always going to be like this?" demanded Dante, pinching the bridge of his nose as he adjusted to his head, feeling like it was two sizes too small. There was only a bit of pain, but then nothing.

Simply the feeling of someone always looking over your shoulder.

"Nope," replied Pride, his voice coming louder and sharper than it had before. "I’m just looking out your eyes, trying to figure out what you are doing and why we are letting ourselves get so wet. This isn’t the image we want to put out to everyone."

Dante rolled his eyes at that statement but couldn’t help but agree. He was not happy, and every moment that this new type of torture continued, the more cranky he got.

"I told you, Tank is like a dog with a bone. It’s like he knows his little Lamb is on the other side of the wall; he just can’t figure out how to get to her," replied Dante. Then, like something had completely taken over his arms, legs, and head, his body turned around to see what exactly was going on.

The feeling of being a passenger in his own body annoyed Dante to no end, but at the same time, he knew the benefits of being Pride’s host. A few moments of being uncomfortable was more than worth the world at his feet.

"Did you try the front door?" sighed Pride, and Dante felt him receding toward the back of his mind. It felt like one of those nagging thoughts that you really couldn’t remember, no matter how hard you tried.

"Now, why didn’t I think of that?" sneered Dante. "Oh, right. We tried that first. The main entrance is closed until the rain stops. Any other bright ideas?"

Pride let out a long sigh before Dante could feel the Sin’s eyes widening. "Why the fuck is the Angel of Death here?!?" demanded the demon like Dante had any idea of what he was talking about.

However, before he could answer, there was the sound of a thud in front of him, and a man appeared.

He was originally couched down, but ever so slowly, he stood up and brushed out his clothes. Feeling eyes on him, the man turned around and saw Dante.

"More Sins?" snorted the man as if Dante was no more than sum beneath his feet. "How cute. I suppose Wrath told you I was here."

Dante felt one of his eyebrows raise as Pride rushed forward to take control again. "Hello, Azrael. Fancy meeting you here. And why is the Angel of Death suddenly interested in this little corner of the world. It’s a big world... find another place to live."

The man... the Angel of Death... simply shook his head as he stepped forward. "You brothers are all the same," he sighed like it was some type of a joke. "I’ll tell you the same thing I told Wrath. She is mine. Fuck off."

"And if we don’t?" purred Pride as Dante felt a shiver of fear for a second. There was no way the man in front of him with different colored eyes was really the Angel of Death... right?!?
