Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse
Chapter 151: She Doesn’t Have A Mother

Chapter 151: She Doesn’t Have A Mother

If the front of the compound looked like something out of a prison, the gates that Delliah led me through led to another world altogether.

The grass on each side of the path was lush; the rich green grass was perfectly cut to the exact length, and there wasn’t a single weed to be seen. Even the path was flawless, everything in its place and not even dirt seemed to want to go against the natural law of this place.

A magnificent building stood tall, easily more than 50 stories high. The white stone that it was made from seemed to glow under the sunlight. The tower was placed in the center of another two buildings that were nowhere near as tall but still impressive in its own right.

"This is the State Legislature Building of Region L," sniffed Delliah, clearly not impressed that I was breaking my neck to take in everything. I mean, I was stuck in a house for my entire life, no thanks to her...

It wasn’t like I saw a lot of the outside world... let alone knew what a State Legislature was.

"My husband was a very important member of Congress when he was 25 and then became the Governor of Region L before the zombies came and ruined everything." The way the woman in front of me was talking made me think that she blamed the zombies for destroying her perfect life.

The poor woman had such a hard life... I really don’t know how she managed to survive it.

Studying my mother, I noticed that even though she was 38 years old, she appeared to be a lot younger. Her luscious blond hair was done up in a knot at the base of her head with enough hairspray that not even this humidity could penetrate it.

She was wearing a navy blue pencil skirt with a beige silk blouse and a navy blue jacket over top. Even walking in those high heels, she maintained her perfect posture. "You’ve really upgraded from the trailer I remember," I chuckled.

The backhand she gave me as a result of my comment didn’t even phase me. "You will shut your mouth," she hissed at me, her eyes spitting out all the rage she felt for me. "Trust me when I tell you that my life significantly improved when I got rid of you demonic child."

"Oh, I believe it," I nodded solemnly as I felt pain radiating from my cheek. "I mean, not even you can blow $30,000 that fast."

That is right, ladies and gentlemen, that was my selling price, and Père wouldn’t let me forget it. What I was most impressed about was that she actually managed to negotiate that much from a man who didn’t have two pennies to rub together.

This time, I saw the hit coming; I just didn’t bother to do anything about it.

"You will keep your mouth shut about everything. Do you understand me? Even when Marcus makes a wish, you will simply nod your head. There is no need to confirm that you are nothing but riffraff."

Raising my eyebrow, I mimed zipping my lips together and throwing away the key.

Satisfied, Mother continued to lead me toward the central building, her heels clicking with power and purpose against the pathway.

Chang Xuefeng cocked his head to the side as he stared at the woman in front of him. She had a full contingency of guards on either side of her, their guns raised and ready to full him with lead, but they were of little regard. She was also the one who had originally taken his Wish Girl from him in the first place.

"Where is she?" he growled, his voice low as he stared down at the woman. "You will bring her to me now."

The woman snorted like she had heard the biggest joke in the world. "We know who you are, Mr. Chang, and you don’t scare us. In fact, there are a whole lot of things I would love to do to a child trafficker like you. God, she even calls you Daddy. Do you get some sick pleasure from that?"

Chang Xuefeng pinched the bridge of his nose as he tried to keep in his temper. But he had already gone seven days without seeing his charge, and that was more than long enough as far as he was concerned.

If they continued to prevent him from seeing Hattie, then he had no problem reaping a few souls.

"I have no idea what you are talking about," he stated, his face impassive as he stared down at the woman. "But I know for a fact that I am not a child trafficker. Now, where is my Hattie?"

"Your Hattie?!? She is nothing more than a child; that is sick!" snarled the woman, showing a lot more of a backbone than he had originally thought her capable of.

"You know she is 18, right?" paused Chang Xuefeng, his eyes narrowing. "And when I found her, she was imprisoned in a camp, forced to fight for her life... right?"

Sure, he was stretching the truth just a bit, because he knew without a doubt that no one forced Hattie to do shit, but this woman didn’t need to know.

"Her mother said that she was only 12," stated one of the men beside the woman. His gun lowered a fraction of an inch as he stared at Chang Xuefeng. "And where are these camps? I’ll go and wipe it out."

"You won’t be able to find it," sighed Chang Xuefeng. "Now, take me to Hattie."

"I’m afraid that isn’t possible," said the woman, her chin high in the air like that was really going to scare him. "She is currently with her mother."

"Hattie doesn’t have a mother," Chang Xuefeng sneered. Sure, she had someone who was related to her by blood, a bond that he probably shouldn’t have chosen when he made this leap, but a bond nonetheless.

But when he felt her stiffen in his arms when the front guard asked her if she was related to Delliah LaRue, he knew that the woman was not his Wish Girl’s true mother.

"And that’s a lie," smirked the woman in front of him. "Hattie said it herself that Ms. LaRue was her mother."

"A simple birther. That doesn’t make her a mother. Now, before I start to get angry, bring me to Hattie or I will take great pleasure in tearing each one of you apart."
