Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse
Chapter 150: Delliah Magnolia LaRue

Chapter 150: Delliah Magnolia LaRue

The days started to blend together, and before I knew it, seven days had passed. Sure, someone was always there to deliver food to me twice a day, but the meals were nothing more than a few moldy buns that were passed through the bars in the door.

I was also given a water bottle every morning, but I was expected to return it every night so that it could be refilled.

Besides all that, the accommodations weren’t all that bad, and I only had my sleep interrupted another two times by zombies.

Looking around the room one last time, I made sure that the cot was in its proper place and that everything was in order. The last thing I wanted was to share something that was mine with the next person in here.

The lock on my door groaned as a key was inserted into it and turned, but Candy’s worried face was what made me the most curious.

"Is everything okay?" I asked, somewhat confused. I hadn’t heard any zombies this morning, but it was clear that something was wrong with the woman.

"Oh, thank the Lord you are okay," the guard sighed as she rushed in and gave me a hug. "There have been a few more zombie outbreaks here, and the regular staff wasn’t allowed in, just in case. Otherwise, I would have come and checked on you."

"Checked on me?" I repeated. "I was fine; where was I going to go?"

Candy chuckled as she stroked the top of my head. "We found out that not all the locks were working properly, and zombies were able to get into and out of the different rooms. Almost 15 women were killed this week, and I guess the men’s side was even worse."

That caused me to raise an eyebrow. "And Daddy?" I half growled, jumping off the cot and storming to the door. I knew that Chang Xuefeng was a Reaver, and they technically ate zombies for breakfast... and lunch... and dinner, but that didn’t mean that he might not have gotten hurt.

"Your father’s fine," Candy assured me, taking my hand in hers. "In fact, he is waiting for you right outside the women’s center. I’ll get you to him as soon as we complete the checkout process."

"You don’t need to worry about that with her," came a very posh voice from the entrance. Closing my eyes, I took in a deep breath. "And that man is not her father. He kidnapped her; he’s probably a child trafficker or something. Make sure that he isn’t able to get near her, or else he might take off, and I’ll never find my darling daughter again."

Candy’s face turned pale, and she was gone before I could even say two words. But that was fine; she didn’t need to be around to see what came next.

"Hello, Maman," I said, my back straightening as I stared up at the woman who had given birth to me. "Always the accomplished liar."

"Lucinda," sneered my mother as she took in my outfit. "Such poor tastes. You really do not bring any benefit to the LaRue family."

"Are you sure about that, Delliah?" I asked, coming closer to the woman who had made a lot of money when she sold me off to Père. "Because I am pretty sure that if I didn’t bring any benefit to you, you wouldn’t be here right now."

"Trust me, I wouldn’t shed a tear if I found your rotting corpse in a ditch somewhere, but you had to go and claim that you were my daughter. Now my husband wants to meet you."

Leave it to my mother to find a whole new way to tear me down. Unfortunately for her, I was no longer a four-year-old child begging for her to come save me.

"And what number is this?" I asked, cocking my head to the side. "One of the many men you had in my first four years of life? Don’t tell me he is one of those who snuck into my room when they were done with you."

The slap across my cheek did nothing but make me smile. It was at this moment that I had wished for the staples to come back and not just the scars. Of course, I also wished that my other scars were a bit more noticeable, just to make Maman sick when she looked at me.

Huh, maybe I’ll see if that one can be granted.

If not, I was sure that I could find a knife and the staple gun from Teddy.

"As far as he knows, you are my sister’s daughter. I raised you as a child, and when you turned 14, you ran away from home, which is why he has never met you," growled Delliah as she gripped my upper arm. "And if you think that sicko who brought you here is going to save you, you have another thing coming. He’s been thrown out of the gates."

Tilting back my head, I couldn’t stop my laughter. "Ah, De, I hate to break it to you, but your gates and walls won’t be enough to stop him. Hell, I am pretty sure that not even death will stop him from coming for me. But by all means, you live your fantasy. Let me know how that turns out for you."

Mother’s perfect face once again twisted with rage to the point that not even her perfectly applied makeup could make her attractive.

"You are going to meet my husband as my niece. You will grant him any wishes that he has, and if you behave, you will have a good life. If you don’t..." She let her sentence trail off as if that threat was enough to scare me.

"I tremble in fear, Mother," I chuckled, dropping my head. "But I live to serve."

"Just remember that. I can make your life a living hell while you are here. I control this place, and no one is going to take the word of a delinquent over mine."

Shrugging my shoulders, I let her pull me out of the room and down the hall in the opposite direction of Chang Xuefeng’s roar of rage.

This was getting good.

Too bad Mommy-Dearest didn’t know who she was letting into her perfect world.
