Chapter 149: New Zombie New Tricks

Turning around, I studied the room I had found myself in.

It really wasn’t that bad if you look at it. I mean, the walls were a bit dark and cold, but when the heat hit you that hard, you wanted a cold place to sleep at night. There was a thin cot on one side of the room with an even thinner blanket and something that might resemble a pillow at one end.

On the other side of the room was a ’working’ toilet... well, a bucket and a compost under it, but it was still better than Camp Hell. At least I didn’t have to clean it out myself.

Spinning around, I stretched my arms out as far as they could go. I still had plenty of space left, and I knew exactly what I was going to do with it.

Flicking my wrist, I put the cot into Teddy and took out the much bigger bed that I had taken from Liu Haoyu’s house. The white sheets and large comforter was a stark contrast to the rest of the room, but if I was spending the next seven days in this place, I was damn well going to be comfortable.

Cracking my neck from side to side, I searched through Teddy’s space to see if I could find a pair of pjs that I wanted to wear. Finding something that looked like a babydoll dress, I quickly got changed and crawled into bed.

Tonight was going to be a nice night; the only problem was what it was going to cost Candy tomorrow.

----

I woke up to someone scratching at my door; the low moans she was making were almost drowned out by the terrified screams of the other woman.

Letting out a moan of my own from being yanked out of a good dream staring me, Dimitri, Tank, and Chang Xuefeng, I pulled the covers over my head and tried to go back to sleep. There was a brief period of silence before the sound of rapid-fire sounded outside of my door.

"I’m trying to sleep!" I yelled out, completely giving up on the idea of getting more rest eye. Seriously, I was on vacation for seven days, I didn’t need a frigging alarm clock waking me up every morning.

"There’s more!" called out a somewhat familiar voice. Ah, right... the loudmouth from yesterday. "Alpha team, take the lead, Beta team, you have right, Gamma team, you have left. Don’t let any of the fuckers live."

Sitting up on my bed, I crossed my legs and pulled out a lolly-pop from Teddy’s never-ending supply. Or at least, I hoped it was a never-ending supply. I might have to hit up a candy store or something just to make sure I have enough to last me for a month.

Fixing my pigtails, I called Teddy and hugged him tightly to my chest. The soft sound of footsteps came closer and I had no idea which one of the teams was walking by my door, but I really didn’t think they needed to worry about being too loud.

Women were still screaming and whimpering, and it sounded like some of the stupid zombies were gorging on the buffet this place had offered them. I mean, none of us stood a chance in hell of getting out of here alive if the zombies could come into our rooms.

A helmet bobbed by the window in my door, and a face briefly flashed as if to check to see if I was a zombie or not.

When the man did a doubletake, I decided on a new game. Wishing for my dress to be back on, I made sure that the bed vanished and the cot appeared all before he got his key in my lock.

"What the fuck?" he muttered, his lower mouth covered in a cloth as he looked around my room. "I thought..."

"Now’s not the time," whispered one of the men behind him as he clamped the first one on his shoulder. "There’s still zombies."

"But she had a bed..." replied the first one, looking at me confused. "With white sheets."

I saw a second head poke into my room, and I waved at him. "Hi!" I smiled at them. "Wanna play?"

The second man merely snorted, while the first one cocked his head to the side as he caught a glimpse of my dress. "You’re too young to be wearing that," grunted the first. "Your parents should have beaten you growing up, and maybe you wouldn’t be dressed like that."

The smile on my face completely disappeared as the guard in front of me jumped onto that landmine called Père. "I was beaten growing up," I replied to him, my face completely blank. "Which is probably why I dress like this."

There was a loud scream behind him as four zombies jumped on the team who had stopped by to say hi. I watched expressionlessly as one female latched onto the guard’s neck, the scarf covering the lower half of his face meaningless against her bite.

Clamping down on the flesh, she pulled back like a dog with fresh meat. The first guard roared in pain as he tried to fire his gun into the zombie’s stomach. However, the zombie had managed to rip out a section of his artery, and blood was spraying everywhere.

Realizing what was happening, the guard looked at me with wide eyes as if he was expecting me to step in and save him. He reached forward, his glove hand frantically trying to grab me, but the zombie only pulled him backward even more.

Gripping the doorframe with both hands, the guard let out a bellow of rage. "Why!" he demanded, his bloodshot eyes staring at me as if wondering why I wasn’t helping him.

"Maybe if I had been beaten a bit more, I would be more inclined to help," I replied to him. Giving a good yank, the zombie managed to get the guard down to the ground as another zombie started to dine on his flesh.

"Close the door behind you when you are done," I called out, and the female zombie lifted her head and stared at me. It was almost funny watching her work out what I had said, but finally, she stumbled to her feet and pulled to door shut before going back to her meal.

Huh, I guess you can teach a new zombie new tricks.
