Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse
Chapter 144: Another Selfless Wish?!?!

Chapter 144: Another Selfless Wish?!?!

Men knocked over chairs, trying to get to Liu Haoyu and see what was wrong with him. Chang Xuefeng had to bite his tongue to stop from laughing at the complete shit show in front of him.

The man was going to die; it was simply a matter of time. He could no longer sense Wrath inside the meat sack (as the Sins so lovingly call them), which meant that his original soul was probably back in control.

"Do you want him dead?" he asked, leaning forward so he could speak in his Wish Girl’s ear. The smell of her cherry lolly-pop was cloyingly sweet next to her personal scent, but he couldn’t help but close his eyes and breathe in both scents.

"Now, why would I want that?" she asked, looking up at him. Their mouths were inches apart, and it took every ounce of self-control that Chang Xuefeng didn’t have to not bridge the distance and taste her for himself.

Chang Xuefeng could feel the confusion radiating off his brother, but he couldn’t bring himself to care. In all his countless years of existence, he had never found himself drawn to anything like this.

Since the first moment that he took a breath, everything had been in shades of grey. It didn’t matter if it was the most beautiful sight in the world or the ugliest; everything was grey. But the second he walked into her cage in Camp Hell, the world exploded in color.

She was his color, the spark needed to make his heart work.

He always envied the demons and specifically the Sins. Their world was nothing but color, while the angles would never understand.

And there was nothing in this fucking world or any realm that was going to take away the one person in his life to bring it meaning and color.

Chang Xuefeng must have been silent for too long because suddenly, he felt the softest touch of lips against his cheek as his charge stood up from the table and slipped around him. "Where are you going?" he growled low.

Trying to grab her arm to keep his Wish Girl away from the chaos at the head of the table, Chang Xuefeng let out a string of curses as she simply slid through his fingers.

"I’m going to grant a wish," she purred, the mischievous smile on her face almost bringing one to his own. "After all, those who are close to death always have the best wishes."

Chang Xuefeng dropped his hand and let out a low grunt. Catching the teddy bear that was flying toward him, he followed closely behind the other half of his soul.

----

Dipping and moving around outstretched arms until I was kneeling beside the body, I was once again happy that I was able to reverse the healing that the Healer had given me. Life was so much better in the body that I was familiar with.

"Hello, Old Man," I whispered into his ear. His face was paper thin, and each breath was a struggle. The wheezing and rattling around in his chest made me smile. "You are going to die, you know that, right?"

Liu Haoyu’s eyes narrowed as he took in the smile on my face. He opened his mouth and moved his lips. However, nothing but a foul stench came out. Shaking my head, I took a breath mint from my space and stuffed it in his mouth.

The men around me freaked out even more when they saw what I had done. Of course, the fact that Liu Haoyu was now choking on my candy really had nothing to do with me.

"I can save you," I said, rocking back on my heels as people tried to pull me away from their dying leader. "But I won’t be able to do anything if you die before I can."

Everyone froze at my words, and I stuck my lolly-pop back into my mouth. Shrugging my shoulders like it wasn’t that big of a deal, I rose to my feet and walked back to where Chang Xuefeng was standing.

Leaning against his massive chest, I looked up at the man. "You are back to looking human," I mused, his eyes drawing me in. I wouldn’t be surprised if he only had one working eye since the other one had a giant scar over it, and the eyes were two different colors. But that oddity only made him more attractive as far as I was concerned.

"I can look however you want me to look," replied Chang Xuefeng as he leaned down so that he could talk to me softly. However, I simply shook my head.

"I tried that before," I replied, looking him in his eyes. "It didn’t work. Always stick to the skin that feels the most comfortable to you. Fuck everyone else."

Chang Xuefeng was about to respond when there was a loud bellow from the other end of the room. "You can save him?" demanded one of the men, coming to his feet. "Completely? With no side effects or anything like that?"

Grumbling deep down in my chest, the dread that I was about to grant another pure wish was almost more than I could take. Why were so many people in this country so selfless?!? Would it kill them to stick to the script?

"I can," I sighed, taking the lolly-pop out of my mouth. "It’s as simple as making a wish. However, I would be very careful what you wish for."

"I want Liu Haoyu to not only be healthy again but also return to how he was when he was younger. The Red Dragon Syndicate cannot survive without him. We need him to live forever," said the man walking forward.

He was young but clearly smart enough to know what he was doing. And Lord help me, he said all the right things.

This wasn’t a selfless wish; he had his own plans and knew exactly how he was going to benefit from Liu Haoyu’s recovery... which meant that I could take an equal price for this one.

Practically giddy, I bounced on my toes as I smiled up at the man.

"Deal accepted!"
