Chapter 145: As Long As We Are Together

There was a dramatic intake of breath coming from the almost-dead man lying on the floor. Everyone turned their attention away from me and onto Liu Haoyu as he let out a series of coughs that made me think he might be coughing up a lung or something.

I guessed I was partially right when a large black mass came out of his mouth. Spitting it out on the floor beside him, the old man wiped his mouth on the back of his hand before his eyes went straight to me.

"Get the fuck out of here," he snarled, his teeth dyed red. The whites of his eyes were bright red from burst capillaries, and he almost looked demonic as he glared at me. "You are not welcome here."

Seriously, what was with men making a wish, and as soon as they get it, they demand that I leave? Like, who the fuck made it so that you were able to live again? Sure, one of his men made the wish, but it was me who granted it.

I was almost starting to take this personally.

"She saved your life," snarled Chang Xuefeng, coming up behind me. Pulling me into his embrace, he glared at Liu Haoyu. "You should be grateful."

"Please," scoffed one of the men holding Liu Haoyu’s head. "Our Boss recovered on his own. Everyone knows that wishes are nothing more than a waste of time. Our Boss is loved by the gods. Nothing will happen to him because that is their wish."

I blinked at that statement before shrugging my shoulders. Liu Haoyu had a whole plethora of diseases and issues that weren’t going to be solved by me alone. Maybe if he were truly loved by the Gods, someone else would come forth and cure him.

I wonder if he would be an asshole to them, too.

Probably not. That seems to be something reserved for me.

"Okay," I shrugged. My price was already collected, and the man who had made the wish would truly understand the misery of wanting to die but not being able to. "Have fun."

Sticking my lolly-pop back in my mouth, I left the dining room. "But I am taking a few extra things for myself."

Sending my wish out into the universe, I felt all the supplies that Liu Haoyu had squirreled away from everyone rush into my space. Leaving only the dining room untouched, I wondered just how well the head of the Red Dragon Syndicate would fare when he realized that everything inside this house and all the other houses around us was now mine.

"Are you really going to leave?" asked Xian Wuying, looking at me with concern. "I can find another house for you to stay in if you need. But even with my cousin looking after you, the world is a much worse place than what you might be used to."

Walking toward the front door, I thought about what he had said. I really didn’t know where I was going next, but that was neither here nor there. The point was that I could go where I wanted to go... and I didn’t want to be here anymore.

"You don’t have to come with me if you don’t want to," I said, turning around so that I was looking at the cousins side by side. They had just been reunited, and I knew from experience that Chang Xuefeng would be enough to keep his cousin safe.

"Nice try," scoffed Chang Xuefeng. "But I told you before... no matter where you disappear to, I will find you. You aren’t going anywhere without me."

Shrugging my shoulders, I looked over at Xian Wuying. "What about you?"

"I swore an oath," replied Xian Wuying. "Until I shed this mortal skin, I am bound to the Red Dragon Syndicate."

Looking over at Chang Xuefeng, I saw him narrow his eyes at his cousin before looking away. "A wish will be enough to make that oath disappear," I tempted him. He was Chang Xuefeng’s family. If I didn’t try to help him in some small way, I might feel guilty for it later.

Possibly.

"I’m good. But if I change my mind, I’m sure that I can find you," replied Xian Wuying as he pulled me into a tight hug. It was more than a little uncomfortable, and it felt like something was zapping me everywhere he was touching, but I bit my tongue.

Chang Xuefeng pulled me away, wrapping his own arms around me. I relaxed slightly when his touch made all the pain go away, and I looked up at the Reaver.

"Don’t touch what’s not yours," sneered Chang Xuefeng as he picked me up and carried me in one arm. "Otherwise, I’ll forget that we are brothers."

"Brothers?" I asked, confused. "I thought you were cousins?"

"Close enough," shrugged Chang Xuefeng. At the same time, Xian Wuying replied, "I’m not worthy to be his brother."

Clearly, I wasn’t up on his family dynamics... but that was okay. It wasn’t like I had any family left to worry about that myself.

"Okay," I grunted. "Then we are off. Have fun with the old man. Just don’t be too surprised as to what comes next."

Xian Wuying raised an eyebrow but didn’t say anything.

It was probably a good thing he didn’t ask me to clarify because I really didn’t know what I was going to warn him about.

I mean, Lui Haoyu was going to become younger, thanks to that wish; they didn’t have any supplies, beds, toilet paper, or anything other than what was in the dining room, thanks to me, and I was pretty sure that with me gone, their house was going to be open season for the smart zombies.

Oh well, not my problem.

Chang Xuefeng’s long legs carried me away from the mansion, and with each step forward, I was becoming more excited.

"So, where to next?" asked Chang Xuefeng. "If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?"

I barked out a laugh as I shook my head. "I would want to go back home," I sighed, resting my head on top of his. "I kind of miss what I knew."

"Then close your eyes and make a wish, Wish Girl, and we’ll see where we end up. As long as we are together, you know everything is going to be fine."
