Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse -
Chapter 132: Famous Last Words
Chapter 132: Famous Last Words
The man continued to stare at me, and I could see the hopelessness in his eyes as he quickly looked behind himself. "They stopped," he muttered, his shoulders drooping even more. "But there are more of them."
"They are just as interested in your wish as I am," I chuckled, looking down from where Chang Xuefeng held me. "So, are you going to make a wish? Or just hurry up and die?"
"Fine," sighed the man, straightening his back as he stared at me. "You want me to make a wish? Here it is: I wish that I could get half of the supplies from City B to the survivors who need them, and I wish that the humans in City B could have a better chance of surviving. Being attacked day and night is doing nothing but wearing us down even faster."
"So you only want half of the supplies in the city, and for humans to only have to fight the zombies at night?" I asked, clarifying. Given the fact that most of the supplies were being sucked into my space, he might want to hurry up and finish his wish.
I didn’t share what was mine.
"Yes. That is what I wish for," he grunted.
"Not for you to live, or have unlimited weapons, or unlimited food? How about wealth? Do you want riches beyond your imagination?" Come on, Bub, you needed to get me at least one selfish wish to make this worth my while. Otherwise, I was really going to cry.
"Why would I want to live?" sneered the man, waving his hand behind him without looking. "There is nothing here worth living for."
Okay, so while I wasn’t happy with his pure wish, it had managed to impress me. But all this doom and gloom was putting me in a pissy mood again.
"As long as you are alive, there is always a chance to change your circumstances," I sneered at him. "But if you want to roll over and die for people who won’t even remember your name, go be a martyr. Your wish has been granted."
Dropping my hand, the mutated zombies surged forward. Homing in on their prey, the lead pounced, ripping off the man’s head right in front of me.
As if feeling my eyes on it, it looked up at me; its head cocked all the way to the side to the point I wondered if the ball of its head was going to fall off his neck. "Don’t let me get in your way," I sighed, waving my hand.
Half of the supplies that hadn’t made it into my space were delivered to the survivors, but that wasn’t my fault. He hadn’t been all that good with the details.
"Go away. When the sun sets today, it will be your time to shine," I instructed the zombies who were gorging on the flesh in front of me. "Any humans you can get at that time will taste sweeter to you anyway."
The original zombie looked up at me from where his entire face was planted inside the man’s stomach. "What?" I chuckled, looking down at it. "Do you have a wish?"
"Wish?" hissed the zombie, its mouth moving and stretching weirdly as it attempted to say the word. Part of the man’s intestines were hanging from its mouth as it slurped it down its throat.
Like spaghetti.
"Yeah," I purred, a smile on my face. No one ever said that I could only grant wishes to humans. I was pretty sure that every creature in this world had things that they wanted. "What do you want?"
"Gooooodddddd," started the zombie, once again moving its mouth like a dog eating peanut butter. "Meeeeaaaattttt."
Cocking my head to the side, I shrugged my shoulders. It might be interesting to see what I could get out of a zombie versus a human when they made a wish.
"Deal accepted," I nodded as I went back to licking the lolly-pop in my hand. The zombie grunted before digging back into the body in front of him. However, the moan coming out of it and the other members of its horde made me think that they were enjoying it.
------
After we let the zombies finish eating, Chang Xuefeng led me around City B, showing me all the sights from where he grew up. However, it was getting to be lunchtime when my stomach growled loudly.
I still hadn’t slept, but food and making my Handler seemed to be a higher priority at the moment. "Lunch time?" I asked, pointing to a mall down the street from us.
It was on the smaller side, but it should still have tables and everything. Plus, I could always go for some more supplies. Especially if they were of the sugary kind.
Chang Xuefeng looked at where I was pointing before nodding his head. "I can leave you here and grab something for myself," he announced, carrying me toward the open doors. His heavy boots crunched down on the glass as he stepped through the opening and headed deep inside.
"You’re leaving me here?" I asked, more than a little confused. Sure, I would be just fine by myself. The zombies here had proven that they weren’t about to hurt me, but I still didn’t like the idea.
"I am going to need a bit more of a meal than lolly-pops and Skittles," chuckled Chang Xuefeng, ignoring my affronted gasp. As far as I was concerned, those two deserved their own spot on the food pyramid; thank you very much. "I’m going to go grab a zombie before they all disappear for the day."
"Happy... hunting?" I answered as he set me down in what must have been a food court at some point in time. There was even trays of decaying food littering some of the tables, and the smell was something else.
But the good thing about Camp Hell was that even the smell of this rotting meat and veggies wasn’t nearly as bad as the smell in the first cage I had woken up in.
And definitely not enough to affect my appetite.
"Thanks," grunted Chang Xuefeng with a slight chuckle. "But your ass better be in this exact spot when I come back, or there will be hell to pay. Do you understand?"
"Yeah, yeah," I mumbled, mentally going through my supplies to figure out my own lunch. "I’ll be good and stay here."
"Famous last words."
