Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse -
Chapter 131: A Stupid Wish
Chapter 131: A Stupid Wish
It felt like we had been walking forever down the mountain. Of course Camp Hell would be in the middle of a fucking mountain with absolutely nothing around it.
Coming to the base, I stared at the road in front of us. "So," I said, still licking my lolly-pop. The sun was just starting to rise on a new day. And a new day meant a new start, something that I was looking forward to. "Where to from here?"
"I’m originally from City B," replied Chang Xuefeng, following my gaze and staring at the empty highway. There were no cars abandoned, no buildings, nothing—just an endless stretch of road in front of us. "We could head there. But if memory serves, it will take us a few days to get there by car."
I snorted at his statement. "Isn’t that perfect?" I asked, a bright smile on my face. "I just happen to have a car in my back pocket that works on wishes and pixie dust. It will get us wherever we want to go in half the time."
Okay, so I was being a bit sarcastic.. but my feet were starting to hurt and I really wanted to take a nap. And the big lug wasn’t even offering to carry me, meanie.
Wrinkling my nose, I looked up at the monster beside me as he started to laugh. "I thought you were made of wishes and pixie dust," he chuckled. As if he could hear my thoughts, he swung me up in his arms, letting me sit on his forearm just like Tank had.
Ah, Tank... I really missed him...
And Dante.
And the rest of the guys.
Letting out a disgruntled sigh, I closed my eyes. "I wish we were in City B right now," I murmured, more than done with everything.
"Hey, Wish Girl," murmured Chang Xuefeng in my ear. "What did I tell you? Wishes and pixie dust."
Not knowing what he was talking about, I opened my eyes to see us in a completely different location. Gone was the empty road with nothing but sand and dirt on either side, and instead, we were in the middle of a bustling city with giant skyscrapers, abandoned cars, and screaming humans.
"Well," I smirked, looking at my Handler. "Go me!"
Chang Xuefeng grunted softly, agreeing with my statement. Just as he was about to open his mouth, a human crashed into us from behind. My handler, the wall that he was, didn’t so much as twitch at the impact, but the human ended up lying on the ground behind us, a dazed look on his face.
"You might want to watch where you are going," I said, looking down at the man. He couldn’t have been more than 20, his jeans and t-shirt giving away the fact that he was on the young side of things. However, it was the fear in his eyes that spoke volumes.
"You need to run," he panted, struggling to his feet. Turning around, he held his hands out in front of him like they could stop the mutated zombie racing toward him.
Tapping Chang Xuefeng’s shoulder, I got him to turn around in time to watch what looked to be wind blades coming out of his hands. The zombie stumbled a bit as the blades cut into its flesh, the pale blue blood blooming from his arms, chest, and legs as it let out a roar of fury.
"You might want to go for his head," I called out. The man snapped his head in my direction for a moment, a sneer twisting his face.
"No shit," he snarled. "You think we haven’t tried that?!?" He was practically screaming at the end of his statement as he turned his attention back to the smart zombie in front of him. Letting out a loud yell of defiance, he sent out another twenty or so blades before dropping his arms to his side.
"And this is how I die," he sighed, his energy completely gone. "I wish I could get the supplies back to the survivors."
"That’s your wish?" I asked, putting up my hand. Unbeknownst to the man talking to me, the zombie behind him stopped, his head cocked to the side as he stared at my hand. "It seems like a stupid wish."
"Excuse me?!" sputtered the man, his eyes going wide as he gave me his undivided attention. Even the threat behind him wasn’t enough to keep his interest. "There are less than a million people left in this city," he continued, looking between me and Chang Xuefeng. "And they are dying of hunger."
"So, you only wish is to get the supplies to them? Like I said, it seems like a stupid wish if you know you are going to die. Why not wish for something bigger?" I asked, cocking my head to the side.
It was also annoying me that he was making a pure wish, which was setting all sorts of warning bells off inside my head. "Pure wishes don’t get a sacrifice," whispered the woman in my head. "We still have to grant them, but there is nothing in them for us."
Even she didn’t seem too impressed with the selfless wish.
Fucking Christ. I would come across the only human left in existence who was more worried about others than himself.
"You want me to make a wish?" sneered the man, coming up to his full height. "Why?"
"Because whatever you wish for will come true," I replied with a shrug of my shoulders. "Haven’t you heard the song?"
"I can’t say I have," replied the man, turning to look over his shoulder at the zombie that had been hunting him down. But now, instead of only the one zombie staring at my upheld hand, there were ten.
"I can grant you any wish," I whispered, letting a hint of seduction into my voice, pushing him, wrapping him around my finger, making him do my will. Listening to Lust at least helped with that. Clearly, this guy didn’t go with the whole corrupt an innocent thing. "All you have to do is make it."
