Chapter 119: Can’t Die

"You’re right," agreed Luca, tearing his eyes away from the younger woman. "Everyone is just trying to survive. But then I learned something very important. What to hear it?"

The woman’s eyes narrowed as if she was trying to see through him to figure out what he was going to say next. The younger woman simply continued to stare at him as if watching a show.

"I learned that only the strong survive; the weak are nothing more than fuel for the fire. So please, don’t cry or scream or pout because what we did is not fair to you. Life isn’t fair. Get over it and move on."

Picking the woman by her arm, he lifted her up so that they were at eye level. Taking a deep breath in, Luca literally sucked the air out of her lungs as she fought to take her next breath. Slowly, ever so slowly, her face started to change color as the lack of oxygen caused her lungs to burn.

And yet, the entire time that Luca was slowly suffocating the woman in his hand, the younger woman simply watched him, her face still impassive.

The moment the woman died, Luca threw her behind him, her body bouncing a few feet with the force of his throw. "You don’t look scared," murmured Luca, looking down as the last remaining survivor came to her feet, slowly patting her light purple dress free of dirt.

"There is no point in being scared," she shrugged. Pulling her black hair back, she quickly did it up in a ponytail before turning her attention to Luca. "Now, if you will be so kind, I’ll take a sleeping bag and some food and be out of your hair."

"Now sees," grunted Ronan, resting his elbow on Luca’s shoulder. "It donna be workin’ dat way. Yous gonna die, yous no be needin our food."

The woman rolled her eyes and snorted at him as the rest of the men formed a semicircle in front of her. "I cannot die," she announced, giving them a smirk of their own. "Not for another three years. So, let’s make this easy on all of us."

"How’s you knowin’ you canna die?" asked Dimitri, holding up a knife so that it reflected the light from the fire. "’Aves you tried it before?"

"The Swamp Witch, in exchange for granting my wish, gave me the ability," shrugged the woman. However, what she failed to notice was all five of the men staring at her.

"Yous be makin’ a wish?" grunted Max when the silence continued to stretch on.

"I made three. One year of life for each wish," the woman stated like she hadn’t just rocked the men’s world.

"Who’s be de one grantin’ your wish?" asked Désiré, his eyes never leaving her face. "An’ donna say Swamp Witch. We be wantin’ a name fer such a miraculous creature."

"She is a creature," chuckled the woman, the smile on her face changing from a challenge to something resembling amusement. "She looked like a child—" she started before being quickly cut off.

"Carryin’ a Teddy?" demanded Dimitri, his voice nothing more than a low growl.

"Canna see?" added Ronan, his entire body leaning forward like he was literally hanging on her every word.

"Goes by the name Hattie LaRue?" finished Luca.

"That would be her. And before you ask, I haven’t seen her in weeks, probably closer to a month, if not more. Definitely before the snow started to fall at least."

"What’s your name?" asked Luca softly, his entire body softening as he looked at the young woman.

"Sunny," she answered, her head high.

"Well, Sunny. Take what you want and need. When we finally find a place to settle, you can come find us there," announced Luca, waving his hand. Salvatore went out and started packing up a large backpack for her, even going so far as to include a tent with it.

"Why on Earth would I want to do that?" sneered Sunny, looking around. "Mind you, this isn’t even the worst that I’ve ever seen. That award goes to the clowns."

"Because we belong to Hattie," replied Luca with a sigh. "We are going to find a safe place for her, and then when she is ready, she’ll have a home of her own."

Sunny nodded a slight smile on her face. "If anyone deserves it, it’s Hattie. If you go South for a bit, you’ll come to a mansion just off the highway. Elizabeth runs the place, but Hattie is the one who created it. As long as you don’t mean Elizabeth any harm, you are allowed in."

Dimitri grunted his understanding while Ronan smiled. "Got it."

"And who am I looking for if I go looking for us?"

"We’re—" started Max before turning to Luca for the final decision.

"We’re The Sins," smiled Luca. "We’ll make sure that you can’t miss us."

"Based on this first meeting, I have no doubt about that."

Taking the bag of supplies from Salvatore, Sunny walked off into the darkness, waving to the men behind her.

"Will she be safe?" asked Max, looking over at Luca.

"You heard her; Hattie has made it so that she can’t die for another three years. Out of everyone left in the world, she is the safest," replied Luca. Waving his arm, all the leftover food, water, and supplies disappeared into his space, leaving only the dead bodies littered around the road.

"So, Bossman, where’s to next?" asked Désiré. "Are we’s setting up camp fer de night, too?"

"Yes, but not here." Luca pointed East, in the same direction where they were headed before. "Something in the East terrified Alicia to the point where she wouldn’t step foot in that direction. That’s where we are going."

Dimitri grunted and nodded his head. Soon enough, the six men had completely disappeared into the night.

Pride stared at the different mirrors in the throne room, searching for something.

"Have you found him?" demanded Greed as he hurried in. He was covered in blood from the top of his head to his feet, so much so that he was leaving bloody footprints all over the black marble floors.

"No," growled Pride in frustration. "But it’s not like he could just disappear like that! He has to be somewhere!"

"Still no luck?" asked Lust, coming in covered in just as much blood as Greed. "Where the fuck could the Gatekeeper be hiding?"
