Chapter 112: If We Had A Choice
Chapter 112: If We Had A Choice
It didn’t take long for Rip to come back with Wang Tian Mu. One thing that I hadn’t realized before when we were both stuck in the cages was just how weak she actually was.
Rip was carrying her, princess style, in his arms like he couldn’t bear to put her down, but I knew better. Her legs were so skinny that I could easily see the large joint of her knee poking out like a softball. Most of her muscles must have atrophied from having been abused and caged for so long.
I really felt bad for the woman, but at least there was a bright side to this hell she had found herself in. While her fiancé might be dead, Rip was more than willing to carry her in more ways than one until death did one of them part.
And that type of love and devotion was rare, and I envied her for it.
"Are you okay?" she asked as soon as Rip put her down on her feet. While she was clearly weak, she made a point to stand up on her own just to prove everyone wrong. "I’m happy you won your fight."
"Two fights," I smiled at her, holding up two fingers like a victory sign. "The first one was human, and the second one was a reaver."
"You managed to take out a reaver?" demanded Rip, coming closer to the Healer as if to protect her from me. "How?"
"He made a wish," I replied with a shrug, turning my attention to the reaver in the corner. "He asked for death, and I granted it."
"If you really make wishes come true, why don’t you use one to get out of here?" asked Wang Tian Mu, cocking her head to the side. She had one of those patronizing smiles on her face that I couldn’t stand. The one where it was clear that they thought they knew more than them.
"I wish to go back to my own body," I announced, my eyes never leaving hers. "Make my breasts a B cup and keep my eyesight, but otherwise, I want to be exactly how I was before I was healed, with scars, staples, and everything. I want to wear one of my black Lolita dresses with my black Mary Janes and my hair in pigtails."
The guard in the corner snorted at my wish, but soon enough, his eyes went wide as my body shifted, going back to how it was before.
"I made a mistake," I told Wang Tian Mu, her eyes trailing up and down as she witnessed my transformation. "I thought it would be better if I looked my age. If I had never been abused, if I didn’t have my scars or my malnutrition... maybe one of the guys would look at me as more than someone to be protected."
"I think that is a normal thing to want... to erase all the scars of the past if they could," nodded the Healer, picking up one of my pigtails and running it through her fingers.
"But why? All those experiences made me what I am today, and I like that person. I might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m not money; I don’t expect most people to like me. Being taller, more in tune with who I should be, made me realize that I shouldn’t change who I am to make people happy."
I paused for a moment as I stared at her. "Besides, the first guy almost took my head before I remembered I had grown. Plus, the cages are more suitable for someone smaller."
Wang Tian Mu chuckled as she nodded her head. "Then I wish that I had your smarts and determination," she announced. "So that I become someone more than just a Healer or a people pleaser."
"What are you willing to give for that to happen?" I asked, cocking my head to the side. "Because with every wish will come a sacrifice; the bigger the wish, the bigger the sacrifice."
I felt the healing powers of Wang Tian Mu travel through my body as she thought about what I had said.
"I only have one thing, and I’m not willing to sacrifice it for anything," announced the Healer, shaking her head. "I will live my life however it is destined to be. And hopefully, I will remember your words and use them to inspire me."
I briefly looked over at Rip for a moment, but he continued to stare at the Healer like she was the only one in the room.
"Smart," I agreed. "Then maybe purge the word wish out of your vocabulary," I continued. "That way, you don’t inadvertently make a wish you never meant to."
Wang Tian Mu nodded her head and held out her hand. Rip, ever the white knight, took it and pulled her away from me and back into his arms.
"I wish for Wang Tian Mu to have a long life with all the happiness in the world," Rip announced, turning his intense gaze toward me. "And I am willing to sacrifice my own life to make sure that it is done."
"Deal not accepted," the voice inside me said at the same time as me. "Your life is what makes her happy; the deal cannot be completed. Try this instead. Live your life knowing that everything you do is important to the woman in your arms. Make your decisions based on what will make her happy, and you will never have to worry."
Rip nodded his head and strolled out of my cage with the Healer staring at me over her shoulder. "You will be happy," I called out as loud as I could. "As long as you let yourself be happy."
Feeling way too sappy, I made a face and stuck out my tongue as the reaver guard approached my cot. Untying the ropes around my ankles, he studied me.
"So, wishes, huh?"
"So, reaver, huh?" I snarked back at him. "We can’t help what we are or what we do. Do you think the Healer would be stuck here, healing people who deserved death more than her mercy, if she could be something else?"
The reaver only grunted, nodding his head. "You have a point."
