Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse -
Chapter 113: Regret
Chapter 113: Regret
"Did he really wish for death?" sighed the behemoth as he walked toward the door of my cage. However, instead of leaving, he simply crossed his arms and leaned back against the bars.
"What he did or did not wish for is of no concern of yours," I sighed, coming to my feet. My feet were barely touching the ground when I was sitting on my cot, and knowing that I was back to normal made me so frigging happy.
Spinning around, I giggled out loud as my skirt did the whole tutu thing. Calling Teddy out of the tattoo, I clutched him tightly to my chest.
Taking in what felt like the first breath of air since I arrived at the Dragon’s Lair, I rested my cheek on top of Teddy’s head and stared at the guard in front of me. "Wishes are private, you wouldn’t want me telling anyone what you wished for, now would you?"
The reaver studied me for a moment, his eyes trailing up and down my body as he took me in. "This is..."
"My normal look," I chuckled, spinning around again. "Like it? Trust me when I say I really don’t care, one way or another."
"Somehow, it seems to suit you," he reluctantly admitted. "But it is a serious mindfuck seeing you like that."
Shrugging my shoulders, I didn’t bother to answer him. The mindfuck was why I started looking like this. I wanted to take back the power I thought Père had taken from me, but then it morphed into something so much more.
"If you can grant any wishes, including your own, why are you still here?" asked the behemoth, cocking his head to the side.
"I like wishes," I replied, the smile on my face dropping. "They give me power. And where better to find wishes than amongst people who have given up all hope?"
Nodding his head in agreement, the reaver stood up to his impressive height. He was easily three feet taller than me, and I swore to god that I was staring at his belly button as he came to a stop in front of me.
"My name is Chang Xuefeng," announced the man, looking down at me. I couldn’t determine what the expression on his face was, but it wasn’t rage or disgust. "Since you granted my best friend his wish, I will keep you safe in his stead. I only have one request."
"One wish, you mean?" I chuckled, tilting my head all the way back so that I was looking up at him.
"If you want to call it that," he shrugged, not disagreeing. "I would like to be free of this place, of this Alpha. I would like to be able to escape and not be found by those who want to hurt me. I am willing to sacrifice my time and, if necessary, my life to keep you safe until you can grant my wish."
"Deal accepted," I replied with a nod. The female voice inside my head seemed to agree with that statement. "But I won’t require your life. That goes against your wish. Instead, when I get as many wishes as possible out of this place, I’ll take you with me. No one will find you or hunt you down."
Chang Xuefeng grunted, but I could see the smile on his face, changing him from a monster to almost attractive.
"You must be hungry; I’ll bring you some food. From now on, only I will have access to your key and your cage, similar to how Rip is for the Healer. No one will be able to get to you; you don’t have to worry," announced Chang Xuefeng, puffing up his chest.
"Don’t worry about food," I chuckled. "I have enough for myself and you if I knew your diet."
"You don’t want to know my diet," replied Chan Xuefeng as he walked out of my cage and closed the door behind him. "I can eat human food, humans, zombies, other reavers, and pretty much anything and everything else. I don’t expect you to feed me."
Letting out an impressed grunt, I smirked at him. "As long as I am off the menu, I am willing to share my supplies with you."
"I make no promises," chuckled the reaver, smiling brightly at me. For the first time, I saw his sharp teeth, reminiscent of the smart zombies I had seen back home. They easily looked like they could rip through flesh, and now I knew why Silent was so careful when he bit me.
He could have done a lot of damage.
"Sweet dreams," I waved at him, crawling back into bed with a bright smile on my face and Teddy clutched in my arms.
I was finally back in my own skin.
Life was good.
I heard Chan Xuefeng softly reply, but I was much too tired to worry about what he had said.
----
"Is that the last of them?" asked Dante as he sat behind his desk. Instead of looking through piles and piles of information on their supplies, he was now going through piles and piles of information on his men.
Thank God he had printed off everything before the EMP hit. It really never occurred to him to do it, but it was just one of the things he felt like he had to do.
"I have Brittney and Antoine separated in the basement," replied Tank, his face completely blank as he stared forward. He was standing in front of the closed door of Dante’s office, his feet shoulder-width apart and his hands clasped behind his back as he continued to give his report.
"Both are claiming to be innocent, but there is indication that the floor has been recently washed. I am assuming that one of them was smart enough to clean up after what they did."
"Victor," sighed Bishop, rubbing the bridge of his nose. He was sitting in his normal chair across from Dante, but with the recent mood that Tank had been in, it made him uncomfortable to have a ticking timebomb behind him. "When was the last time you’ve slept? You need sleep. Otherwise, you are going to miss something or do something you might regret."
