Chapter 46: Guilt

Kieran had just stepped outside the Ra’Gul when he heard the loud voice behind him.

"Please wait!" Natasha shouted, quickly following up behind him.

She stopped right in front of him.

"Tell me, any amount you want... Please just give me the weapon," she said, eagerness in her eye.

But Kieran took her statement to be quite funny.

"Any amount?" he asked her, his voice dripping with noticeable disdain.

That was the problem he had with all the influential people he had met so far.

Always thinking they could get everything they wanted... thinking that they could do whatever they wanted with their money.

True, maybe they could do that, because he was indeed someone who could sell his own pride... He didn’t care.

But what turned him off was the arrogance they had.

To actually think that he would give out the weapon simply over some money.

He would, if it wasn’t special, and of course, if he didn’t need it.

"Yes, please just give it to me, I’ll have my butler pay you the—"

"Fifty-five thousand Doperium," Kieran calmly stated.

Natasha almost coughed out her heart hearing Kieran’s statement.

"Fifty-five thousand?!"

She knew that her request was tempting.

But even then, She expected him to be bold—but not that shameless.

That was lifetime wealth... if well managed.

Even with her entire family’s support, she couldn’t drag out such an amount of money.

Even the lady and the butler were shocked by the height of Kieran’s shamelessness.

He didn’t even bat an eyelid when making his request.

Even if they sold more than half the weapons in the Ra’Gul, that amount was far from reach!

It was clearly a rip-off!

Natasha’s expression turned ugly.

"What do you mean? Fifty thousand Doperium for a weapon that was sold at twenty? Are you insane?" Natasha burst out... Kieran was simply going overboard.

Kieran flashed her a dangerous glare.

He let the silence stretch, just enough to make the air tense.

Natasha felt an invisible pressure bearing down on her.

Those dark eyes weren’t the eyes of a young man who had no idea what life was.

They were the eyes of a seasoned warrior, one who had been bullied, spat on by society, and betrayed by the person he once held very dear to himself.

The eyes—it was eyes filled with pain.

Pain that she wasn’t sure even she could endure.

Natasha shuddered in front of those eyes.

’What’s this? What rank is his talent? I’m an S-rank talent holder, how is he putting this much pressure on me?’ she thought, confused.

If anyone looked at Kieran, since he had yet to get a change of clothes since the realm incident, one would mistake him for a beggar.

But Kieran—he didn’t care about what anyone thought.

At least not anymore.

"Says the arrogant girl who thinks she can buy everything with her money... When will you learn that not everything can be gotten with family influence... Maybe that’s partly the reason why the Garmine family fell," Kieran’s voice was slow, each word carrying weight.

Like a knife slowly digging into her heart.

Natasha felt her pride being dragged right through the mud.

"How dare you! You don’t know what happened!" Natasha shouted, apparently annoyed by his mention of her family’s name.

Kieran chuckled darkly.

"What’s my concern? Whatever happened was in the past. I’m judging from the present... Having arrogant brats like you for children... It’s high time everyone realized that all these families are simply living on past glory," Kieran’s eyes didn’t falter.

He didn’t care to filter his words; he said everything plainly.

This wasn’t the AFO.

He wasn’t scared of anyone here.

If they did anything stupid, then he wasn’t afraid of burning down the entire Ra’Gul.

’At least I’ll be able to get all their weapons for myself,’ Kieran thought, turning his back on the young girl as he left the Ra’Gul.

He had much more important things to do... His preparation for the training wasn’t over yet.

He couldn’t bother wasting his time with kids.

Natasha raised her hands; she wanted to use her abilities to teach him a lesson.

But the thought struck her—

’If I do it, then I’m only proving him right...’ the thought made her drop her hand, gritting her teeth tightly in frustration.

She could only watch as Kieran’s figure blurred into the distance.

Kieran entered back into the bustling market of the merchants’ city.

He had gotten a good weapon... or at least one he thought to be a good weapon.

Now, he just had to figure out how to use the damn thing.

"I wish she attacked. You’re letting all these people pass off freely," Alexa said.

She felt the itch to burn everyone who dared to insult Kieran.

But it looked like Kieran was simply too kind.

"Pass off freely? What’s worse than being hunted by your own guilt?" Kieran asked with a light chuckle.

"She will definitely question all her actions all this time and realize how right I am... The families were given a privilege, and over time, rather than use it kindly, they’ve all abused it... Not just the Nelkon family, but all the others as well," Kieran said calmly.

Although Alexa didn’t fully understand what he meant,

She could sense the depth of pain in his voice.

This was something that annoyed him.

Each family was given respect because of what their ancestors had done.

Being the pillars that brought the Nebulas back after the first realm opened in their world.

But it seemed with time, their predecessors became more arrogant.

The thirst for their own power and greater status blinded them from the actual purpose of their creation.

The people who were meant to save the Outlands from destruction.

They let it burn down—they let monsters consume the people who resided there.

And their silly excuse for the incident was that the Outlanders were weak.

What then was the essence of the strongest to exist?

Kieran could remember that day clearly...

And he could remember what that man had told him.

It was also the day he made his promise to himself.

Perhaps the man was right... If the Outlanders weren’t weak, then the monster purge would’ve been avoided.

However, that was not enough reason for him to let all those innocent people die while he had the strength to save them from the calamity.

’I’ll become strong, and I’ll set everything right,’ Kieran thought, his fist clenched.

"What do you want to do now?" Alexa asked, noticing they had been navigating through the marketplace with no specific location... or Kieran simply didn’t tell her, so she got curious.

"Oh... I want to get an apartment. We’ll stay there for the night," Kieran said, taking another turn into a bustling city.

He didn’t have to search too much as he saw the signboard for a vacancy.

{Pride Lodge}

{Vacancy, charged for one Doperium per night.}

Kieran looked at the signpost.

He just needed a place for both him and Alexa to rest for the night.

So he wasn’t particularly looking for anything classy.

Kieran decided to check on the lodge.

He went into the building, coming into the lobby.

"Good day, please tell me, how may we help you?"

He was greeted with a warm smile by the receptionist.

Her neatly tied blonde hair and her tailored black suit gave her a professional look.

"I need a reservation. I saw one outside," Kieran replied calmly.

The receptionist smiled.

"Oh, please follow me then," she said, coming out of the counter to lead Kieran to the said room.

She picked a small rectangular box inscribed with the room no. {D7} on it.

Kieran followed quietly behind her.

They went up the stairs until they reached the said room.

She placed the rectangular box in front of the knobless door.

A blue light scanned the number written on the box, and the door opened with a click sound.

She stepped to the side, allowing Kieran to catch a better look at the apartment.

It was a modest room, with a bed placed in the center.

A reading table, an empty wardrobe,

And practically every essential.

It even had a balcony, allowing the refreshing air from the green field outside to fill the room.

If anything, it was definitely worth it.

"I like it." Anything better than the academy’s dormitory was good to him.

He passed the card to the lady. She withdrew the said amount.

"Alright then, please enjoy," she said, leaving Kieran to his new room.

Kieran threw his body on the large bed, his body sinking into the mattress.

He let out a long sigh of exhaustion.

It had been a rough ride for him over the past few days.

But it wasn’t over yet.

’Demi-gods...’ it had been on his mind for quite some time.

But he had been too occupied with other things that he had yet to fully deal with it.

But now, he was finally alone.

"Alexa, you can come out... I need you to answer a few questions for me."
