Chapter 47: Recruit training begins
The golden patterns on his wrist wriggled as though alive.
The patterns snaked their way out of his hands, slowly rising up into the air with a dance.
Kieran couldn’t keep his eyes off the moving patterns.
The look was mesmerizing and oddly familiar.
It didn’t take long for it to assume the shape of a beautiful figure, her deep red hair falling gently behind her back.
"What is it this time?" Alexa asked, her hands crossed over her chest.
"I want you to tell me everything you know about demi-gods," Kieran hit straight to the point.
’If this is some sort of dangerous game, then at least I have to be prepared before it comes,’ he thought to himself.
"Demi-gods?" Alexa raised a brow, rummaging through her mind for an answer.
"Honestly, I don’t know much myself... I only had encounters with the Gods. But if you can be specific with your question, then I’ll know if I can help."
"I see..."
’I don’t think she’ll have any idea what the god candidate is all about either... What is the aim? What does the system want me to do?’
These were the questions in his mind that bothered him greatly.
The system specified that he was meant to fight some other candidates, but he completely had no idea what the entire thing was about.
How then was he going to prepare?
"Don’t bother yourself then. It wasn’t anything too important," Kieran waved his hands dismissively, throwing his back on the bed, looking at the white ceiling.
"Hmph, you have a real talent for wasting my time," Alexa scoffed, her voice laced with barely concealed irritation.
’Then I won’t need to tell him about that either...’
He had just called her out, and then at the end didn’t ask or tell her anything?
She sighed, contemplating if it was best to keep it away from him or tell.
Kieran glanced towards her, seeing her scrunched-up face.
"I’m sorry for the stress," he added.
"Tch, sorry for yourself... Well, I do know that once a god is dead, the children will have to fight amongst themselves to know who is best suited to take up the role," Alexa let out a sigh, revealing what she held away from him.
Kieran jolted up after hearing her information.
’According to her, the gods all disappeared without a trace... Does the system mean they’ve died? And if that’s the case, what could possibly kill a god?’ Kieran felt his stomach churn.
He had a bad feeling.
"And how many children did my father have?" Kieran asked, looking at Alexa,
who raised a brow suspiciously at him.
She felt as though there was something he was hiding away from her, but even with her divine senses, she couldn’t tell exactly what it was.
"Typhoon, for as long as I knew him, never had any child. He wasn’t particularly interested in anyone... Which brings the question of how you came about," Alexa said. For a moment, something flashed in her eyes.
Something akin to jealousy.
But Kieran failed to notice this.
"That said, the fight for the position... It mustn’t necessarily be the children alone. Children of other gods as well as selected candidates could participate... It was usually arranged by the council then... Which of course no longer exists," Alexa added.
’A council?’ Kieran felt a slight headache coming in.
He was tied into a lot more mess than he had imagined.
"That helps... even if it’s not much to go on," Kieran murmured, lost in his own spiraling thoughts.
"Hmph, well I can’t have you dying anytime soon... You’re the closest thing I have to knowing where the others went," Alexa replied.
"Aren’t you going to sleep as well?" Kieran quickly changed the topic, pushing it to the back of his mind.
’I’ll wait to see what happens... For now, the recruit training will be happening tomorrow, and I have to be ready for it,’ he thought.
"Sleep? Tch, I just reawakened. I don’t need any sleep."
Kieran looked at her blankly for a moment.
"Suit yourself," he replied dryly, pulling the blanket over himself without another glance.
Alexa opened her mouth to talk, but no words seemed to come out.
’This little brat!’ she thought, annoyed.
He didn’t spare her a second glance as he wrapped himself in the blankets, falling into sleep.
---
The morning came in a blink of an eye.
The sun crept into the room, casting its warm golden glow on his face.
The chirping from the birds out in the green field sounded constantly like an alarm clock.
Kieran’s eyes slowly opened.
He sat up straight to find Alexa sitting on the sofa in the room with an annoyed expression on her face.
Kieran didn’t bother with her as he stood up to prepare himself.
Today was, of course, a big day.
He didn’t know what he would find in the recruit training... But he prepared himself mentally for the worst.
"Time to go," he said flatly, not bothering to meet Alexa’s eyes.
She glared at him for a few minutes.
She disappeared instantly, and the familiar pattern appeared on his hand again.
Kieran quickly left the room, carrying the sword with him.
It didn’t take much time to get to the station.
Since he could afford a little luxury, he decided to use a hover car to reach the location earlier.
It didn’t take much time for him to arrive in front of the location.
Right before the time Jacob had specified for him.
Right before him was a major branch of the Blue Fang Faction in the Nebulas Realm!
The sheer size alone was terrifying.
It was akin to a military base, but not your normal day military base... There was a clear difference in the modernity.
With several containers lined up inside.
Tall watchtowers with large power crystals placed on the rooftops were stationed around the four walls.
With several other modernized structures within the confines.
He asked the two guards who were stationed in front, and he realized that he couldn’t enter without a guide.
So he was asked to wait for the person who told them to come.
’Punctuality means nothing if I still have to wait,’ Kieran muttered under his breath, stepping back with a sigh.
Not too long after his arrival, a few others came as well.
One of whom he recognized.
Natasha came alone this time, carrying a slim blade sheathed to her waist.
She flinched slightly as she noticed Kieran’s figure.
Her eyes shone with annoyance.
’What is he doing here?’ she was annoyed to see his face...
After their encounter the other day, she couldn’t help but think about what he had said.
And the fact that she couldn’t find any lie in his words made her feel much more guilty.
She expected Kieran to react as soon as he saw her, but rather, he simply looked away as though he didn’t even see her standing there.
This annoyed Natasha all the more. She gritted her teeth.
’What’s up with that boy anyway?’ her gaze darkened as she stared at him.
Kieran as well had his own thoughts.
’I guess some pests are just too stubborn,’ he let out an exasperated sigh.
With time, more kids arrived in front of the gate... Soon it turned into a small crowd.
With a glance, Kieran could tell a clear separation within each group.
A group was discussing with anticipation amongst themselves, vibrancy in their voices.
With the clothes they had on, and the luxurious weapons they carried, he could instantly tell that they were children of rich and influential figures.
The ’arrogant brats,’ as he called them.
Another group was filled with anxious and confused beings.
Kieran could see them playing with their fingers or looking around to reduce the tension.
Then there were the gossipers, who had nothing else to do than whisper out names of the popular figures they noticed in the group.
Of course, they were discussing his group.
"Isn’t that Natasha Garmine?!" one said out loudly before quickly dropping the tone of her voice.
"Like seriously, it’s her?!"
All the kids were clearly shocked to see the prodigy of the Garmine family appear in the recruit ground for the Blue Fang Faction.
"This is really epic... The Blue Fang Faction will be shooting up the faction leaderboard in no time! Can you actually imagine it?!"
Not only was she from a family of geniuses, she was a star among the current generation.
That alone was enough to get them all excited.
"She’s just an S-ranked talent holder though... I heard the Blue Fang got one of the SSS-ranked members!"
Natasha was quiet, away from the rest. But she could clearly hear all their discussion.
Her brows twitched hearing someone refer to her abilities as ’just.’
But her interest piqued as she heard the mention of an SSS-ranked talent holder.
The rumors of there being ten of them were already widespread.
But no one had yet to have any idea which faction each of them had joined.
’An SSS-ranked talent holder? Who could that be?’ Natasha looked through the crowd to check if she could find someone who stood out from the rest.
But when she couldn’t, her gaze locked with Kieran, making her expression turn sore.
’At least I know it can’t be him,’ she thought to herself.
Just then, while some were still bickering, a loud voice sent a deadly still silence through the place.
"Quiet!"
"I believe you all came here for the training... And I’m sure you should all be ready for it."
