Chapter 43: Talent type.
Kieran quickly filled the form and handed it back to the woman.
She walked behind the counter, where several computers lined up, each flickering with blue lights on their screens.
She immediately keyed in his information into the AFO system, and then returned with a tin-plated band.
"Here, this is your band," she said, handing it over to Kieran.
"It symbolizes your rank and also certifies your identity as an awakened. With that band, you’ll be offered special treatments. So make sure to have it on you at all times... That’s all for now, you can take your leave if you want to," the lady said with a warm smile before returning to the counter.
Kieran looked at the band in his hands for a moment.
His mind flickered back to the academy.
The intense trainings he went through, the bullying and insults he endured...
His dream had finally become a reality.
Painfully though, one of the reasons behind his motivation had already left him... abandoned him like all the others.
Thinking back, he clenched his fist tightly.
But pushing all that aside—
He was officially an awakened.
The tin-plated band was a testament to that.
While there were rankings for the talents, which ranked how powerful one’s talent could be, bands, on the other hand, didn’t rank by talents, but rather by experience and level of mana control and absorption rate.
Essentially, those who had high-ranked talents would eventually get to wear the platinum bands or even higher... But awakening the talent was just one thing.
Learning the use of mana was another thing all on its own.
That was why, despite having a C-ranked talent, Jacob was able to push past the barriers and make it, officially wearing a steel band and taking on the role of a captain in the faction.
Kieran drew a long sigh, looked at the band for a short while before wrapping it around his wrist.
A soft click—the two ends locked together.
A warm glow ran through the runes... acknowledging his identity.
Then, pain—a small, sharp pain.
Like a needle piercing his skin.
But the pain quickly gave way to something else.
A rush of cool energy flowed through his veins...
A sensational feeling.
He couldn’t put it into words.
His eyes fluttered shut as he allowed the feeling to envelop him.
Then—
{Ding!}
{Athex Integrated successfully}
A soft, angelic voice with a touch of robotic accent announced:
{Name: Kieran Marcoth}
{Talent Rank: SSS}
{Mana Points: 100}
Kieran slowly opened his eyes, looking at the block-shaped font in front of his eyes.
"I believe you should be able to see your stats now?" Jacob asked.
"Yes. I can see my stats," Kieran replied calmly.
"Good. It’ll be at 100 points for now, but if you work hard enough, then you’ll be able to push up and get to platinum level in no time... With a talent rank like yours, your potential is almost boundless!" The excitement in Jacob’s voice couldn’t be hidden.
A grin was left plastered on his face.
He had successfully recruited an SSS-ranked talent holder into his faction.
This was going to be a huge turning point for his faction!
He held high expectations for Kieran, and even after seeing how daring he was to stand up against the Nelkon family and even Nellyx, he had grown a little respect for the young boy.
’Alexa, will I be able to use mana as I can already use aether?’ Kieran asked the question that had been bothering him for quite some time.
Since the form of energy he had in his arsenal was different from the norm, did that mean he wasn’t able to use mana?
"Of course you can use mana. However, it can be a lot more difficult for you to learn than it is for others... Aether is the energy of origin. It doesn’t conflict with mana, but since you have the bloodline of a god, then you are more attuned to aether than you are to mana," Alexa explained.
’Hmm, so that’s how it works... Thank you for the explanation,’ Kieran said to Alexa before turning his head to Jacob.
"What about the recruit incentive?" Kieran asked.
"Oh right, I almost forgot... I’ll give you the recruit’s incentive. You’ll need the money to get your weapons and accessories," Jacob replied, scanning his pockets with his hands, apparently searching for something.
"Weapons? Accessories?" Kieran asked with a raised brow.
Jacob chuckled at his expression.
"Of course, that’s the main point of the incentives in the first place... The money is to help you prepay tools for the training program," Jacob said, bringing out a card from his pocket.
’Now it makes more sense... The incentives were placed there so the recruits would have enough funds to get their weapons and accessories even before going on their first realm mission... Tch, they can’t even give free money,’ Kieran thought with a sour face.
"You really love money, don’t you?" Jacob laughed. He had yet to get enough of Kieran’s love of money.
First, his bargain back in the school, and now the sour face when he found out the purpose of the money.
"Of course I do. That’s the point of all of this in the first place," Kieran said with an indifferent look on his face.
He had worked so hard to become an awakened. Of course, he wanted to protect the weak... but primarily, he placed his stomach and well-being over everything else.
"Hahaha, well you’re in luck. At least your bargain added some extra money to your package, so it can cover for anything else you wish to do... Here, take this card," Jacob said, handing the card over to him.
"The card contains the requested amount of Doperium."
Kieran collected the card, his eyes brightening up.
A card loaded with Doperium!
Never in his life did he think he would hold such an amount of money... that too on his first day!
But when he thought about getting a weapon, though, his expression dropped.
Of course, he was planning on getting one, but with the much emphasis Jacob laid on it, he knew he couldn’t get something simple at all.
"The ship will be moving to the recruit training center tomorrow by 8. I expect you to be prepared before then. Coming late might have some later effects on your records, so try to come as early as you can. That said, I believe we no longer have any business until then... I’ll be meeting you on the ship. Good luck and welcome to the Blue Fangs,"
Jacob smiled pressing the door knob. His figure disappeared right after he went through the door.
Kieran stood there for a short moment, in his thoughts.
The recruit training—he was sure to meet people... and he had heard about it several times.
Although Jacob did make it sound like something light, Kieran had also heard tales of people dying in those recruit training centers.
He had no plans of facing such fate, nor did he want to know if they were rumors or truth.
They would be going to a particular realm where they would all learn to use mana and gather experience about all the other races that existed.
His survival wasn’t optional—he had to survive.
’It’s not over till I find her.’
’If I’m getting a weapon, then what would it be?’
