Chapter 42: Only the beginning....

Kieran was taken aback by Kim’s words.

He thought he had completely ignored the issue after he had given his answer.

But Kieran also realized something.

’Shit, I slipped... He’s just trying to know how I’d react... I have to try to stop slipping up,’ Kieran thought, inwardly trying his best to calm his nerves.

"Anything?" Kim paused, throwing a sharp gaze at Kieran from the sides of his eyes.

Kieran kept a calm expression, his hands feeling all sweaty.

His heart beating like a drum.

’He’s really good... Too keen to minute changes,’ Kieran kept a calm façade on the outside.

But even then, maintaining it with the pressure from Kim was becoming a lot harder.

He was afraid.

Who wouldn’t be?

This was the person rumoured to be the strongest in the entire Nebulas Realm.

He had always heard tales of his strength.

In comparison, he had yet to see Alexa fight seriously.

Sure, she did a magnificent show of power back in the C-rank realm, but that wasn’t enough to compare her to Kim.

He didn’t know why, but those eyes of Kim gave a feeling... A feeling that shook the very core of his being.

"No, there’s nothing wrong... I’m simply shocked. How would you think that I have something to do with what happened out there?" Kieran asked with a poker face.

He definitely wasn’t going to tell that he was indeed the person behind it.

That was simply just offering himself to the mercy of the Nelkon family.

A cruel family that wouldn’t think twice about having his head.

"I thought as much... But the mana around you while you were outside was too dense... Which is strange for someone who has yet to refine their core."

Kim continued his walk through the corridors, stopping in front of a room door.

’He’s not hiding his thoughts... He’s definitely not afraid of me in any way.’

His casual reply made Kieran sure Kim wasn’t a simple person.

He looked unbothered, totally unfazed—a confidence that could only come from true strength.

But Kieran wasn’t worried about that; rather, his question was:

’How does he want to know if I had a hand in what happened?’

He simply had to wait and see, because from the looks of things, Jacob looked to have no idea either.

As for Kim? He didn’t seem like he was going to say anything again.

As they stepped into the room, there was a young woman behind a classy front desk.

As she saw Kim enter with the two others behind him, she quickly rose to her feet, panic written on her face.

"Sir Kim, welcome!" she exclaimed in a rather shocked voice.

"Julia, help me with the mana scanner machine, and also get the official register form for the Blue Fang faction."

"Yes sir, right away." She straightened her skirt, immediately heading to do as she was told.

"...You two, please take a seat while she brings them," Kim ordered casually.

Kieran and Jacob did as he ordered, sitting by the side.

Kieran could hear his heart beating right next to his ear.

He had heard what they asked the lady to get.

A mana scanner!

Every awakened had their own distinct mana flow. Even before getting a talent, unconsciously, the body of an awakened accepts mana into the body.

The mana scanner was a device that helped to know the mana pattern and who it belonged to.

’Will he know that the attack came from you?’

He was anxious. He didn’t want to have any issues with the Nelkon family, at least till he was strong enough to get his revenge.

Only then would he break through their gates himself.

But at the moment, it was best to be completely off their track.

Alexa could sense his anxiousness as well.

"No, since I used aether for my attack, they won’t be able to pinpoint where the attack came from... Just keep calm."

Her words weren’t convincing enough.

She had vast knowledge, but she had never been to his world... So Kieran found it a bit hard to put complete faith in her words.

Kim stood while checking his wristwatch from time to time, as though he was already missing out on something.

He didn’t wait for too long as the lady returned.

"Sir Kim, here is the mana scanner." She handed the small device to Kim.

Kim walked up to Kieran.

He could see the slight signs of fear in Kieran’s eyes... He had noticed some time back.

But even with how strange it was, he didn’t believe that Kieran would’ve had a hand in the attack.

This was all measures to keep the Nelkon family from acting stupid.

He placed the gun-shaped scanner right at the front of Kieran’s forehead.

The vacuum-shaped mouth of the device sucked in the air, but Kieran could tell that it did more than that.

He felt energy leave his body.

He felt slightly dizzy afterward.

"Alright, that’s all... You can join the faction. I’ll handle the issue with the Nelkon family. This should be enough to keep them away from you."

Kieran felt a wave of relief hearing what Kim said.

"Thank you, Sir Kim," Kieran replied.

"It’s nothing. That family can be stubborn even when they’re the ones at fault... Regretfully, even with the entire forces of the AFO, it’ll be hard to keep them at bay, but I definitely can’t let them come after you, since they’re the ones who caused trouble," Kim said, walking towards the door.

"This was clearly self-defense," he added with a smile as he walked out the door.

Kieran heard his last words. Maybe the others didn’t understand... But he did.

’How did he know?’

While he was in his thoughts, the lady walked up to him with a form.

"You want to join the Blue Fangs, right?" she asked, catching Kieran’s attention.

"Yes, I am," he quickly replied.

"Here, fill the form. When you’re done... I’ll key your info into the system and hand you your band," she said before leaving the two to head back to the counter.

"I guess this is it," Jacob said as Kieran scanned through the info on the form.

"After you fill the form, you’ll become an official member of the Blue Fangs. After that, I’ll give you info on when the recruit training would begin. And of course, I assure you the full support of the Blue Fang like I promised earlier," Jacob said, feeling a wave of relief as well.

Following up with Kieran up to that point was like a transition from one trouble to another.

’The boy definitely has a stroke of bad luck,’ Jacob smiled wryly at the thought.

"Sure, you’ve already done more than enough for me. I appreciate it," Kieran replied with a warm smile.

Seeing someone like Jacob, Anita, and then Kim... These were the true figures who reminded him what true Awakeneds were.

There was Anita who stood up for him in the academy.

And then Kim...

’Kim?’ Kieran couldn’t help but stare back at the door he used to walk out.

How did he know?

That very question lingered on his mind.

’He didn’t look at the results from the mana scanner... So how did he figure it out?’ Kieran couldn’t find an answer to his question.

Meanwhile, Kim walked through the passage, a smile forming on his face.

"I was right with what I told her. This is only the beginning."
