Awakening of the Scheming Wife -
Chapter 96: Trap? Yes!
Chapter 96: Trap? Yes!
"I am really curious."
"What are you curious about?" Helena and Vernon turned to find Morris’s family of three standing right behind them.
[Damn it! When did they come? Why didn’t I hear a thing? Are they the descendants of cats or what?]
Listening to Helena’s complaints in her heart, Vernon stifled a laugh.
"Helena? You wanted to ask me something?" Minister Morris asked again.
Helena’s lips twitched. Now, she didn’t even have the right to talk behind people’s backs?
She just smiled and shook her head, "Nothing, Minister Morris. I just saw that Grace was leaving the party in a hurry before the party even started, and was worried about her. While we were talking about her, your name just came up in the middle of the conversation casually. There was nothing serious."
Minister Morris raised an eyebrow when he heard her words. She was smart indeed. Look at the way she worded her thoughts.
She was saying that his name casually came up in their conversation? But what was the conversation? It was about why Grace was leaving in a hurry.
So, what did she mean? Obviously, she was saying that he was behind Grave leaving, but she did not put that out directly.
Smart indeed.
He narrowed his eyes when he saw how she was smiling. What was she smiling at? Looks like she was planning a trap for him. But what exactly was it?
"Grace left in a hurry? Did she tell you what happened?" Madam Morris asked with a frown.
The spark in Helena’s eyes brightened while Minister Morris stiffened.
He forgot.
His wife was beside him.
When he looked at Helena’s brightened eyes, what more should he understand? She was trapping him in front of his wife.
Helena looked ’worried’ as she shook her head, "No, Professor Jones. She did not say anything. I saw her leaving without even telling me anything, and I went to ask her. She just said that she had something to do and left in a hurry. I called out to her to ask her what happened, but she did not even look at me and ran. I wonder if she was safe. Right, Vernon?"
She looked worried as she looked at her husband and asked. Vernon pursed his lips and went along with his wife’s act by nodding, "Right. If she responded, we could have at least helped her find a driver. But she left alone just like that."
"Yes." Helena nodded.
Minister Morris’s lips twitched. This couple... Their act is amazing.
It was almost like they had rehearsed everything beforehand.
Madam Morris, on the other hand, did not notice the undercurrents between her husband and the couple.
She looked genuinely worried for Grace. Then she turned her head to look at her husband. She raised an eyebrow at him.
’Did you do something?’ She asked him with her eyes.
"..." He is done for. He fell into the trap without even doing anything. He couldn’t lie to his wife and say that he did not do anything. But he also couldn’t tell her the truth.
He immediately turned his head away and looked elsewhere as if he had just seen someone he knew.
"..." What else does Madam Morris need to know that he really did something to Grace?
She took a deep breath to calm herself. She can’t get angry at her husband in front of outsiders. Younger people, nonetheless.
Helena’s eyes brightened when she saw the situation between the couple.
Then she looked at Madam Morris and exclaimed, "Oh, yes, Professor Jones. I heard that you went to Province A to attend a meeting for our state’s education benefits. How did it go? I heard my Father say that if that meeting went well, your position for the ministry would become stronger. I hope everything went well. How was it?"
Madam Morris sighed when she heard her question. "No, Helena. I couldn’t attend the meeting as per the schedule. I returned as the person on that side had to leave the country and couldn’t wait for me."
"Oh no! What happened? How could you be late to such an important meeting, Professor Jones? Is everything alright?" Helena asked in concern.
Vernon and Minister Morris looked at her and raised their eyebrows.
If they did not understand that Helena was somehow involved in this matter, then they would be idiots.
Madam Morris, on the other hand, was emotional as she was too involved in the matter. So she did not notice anything and shook her head, "Oh dear. That was some weird twist of fate. Some rascal pranked the airlines by making a call and warning of a bomb. The warning was taken seriously and halted my flight to do a thorough check. By the time the flight took off, it was already too late. Ahh! I am sorry for my language."
As a Professor and a candidate for the Education Minister, saying the word rascal in public was deemed a bad word for her.
Helena shook her head. Then she asked in shock, "What? A bomb as a prank? Who could that be? Did they find that person?"
Madam Morris shook her head, "No. The call came from a public telephone booth, and there were no cameras near the area. With no more leads, the case was thrown away."
Helena nodded in understanding. "But that didn’t destroy your chance of becoming the Minister, right? That would be awful if something terrible happened just because of a silly prank."
"Oh, no. It wouldn’t be that intense of an effect. I should just make sure to make a better impression in the next meeting," Madam Morris smiled as she comforted the ’worried’ Helena.
Helena sighed in relief, "Then that’s good. I know that you are awesome enough to make anyone be impressed by your charm. Am I right, Minister Morris?"
Looking at her cheeky grin, Minister Morris gritted his teeth, but he still nodded with a smile, "Of course. My wife is the most amazing."
